This is just a little idea that I had a while ago. Basically, the same six classes for both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are going to be in Mass Effect 3, right?

Well, I think it would be a pretty cool idea if, in Mass Effect 3, you get some kind of passive bonus if you stayed true to the class you used in the first two games. Like, I dunno, extra ammo capacity for a Soldier, or reduced cooldown times for an Adept. Maybe a power duration bonus for an Engineer, or longer slowdown when looking through a scope for an Infiltrator. Maybe the Sentinel would get a slight bonus for Tech Armor capacity, or the Vanguard would...get something cool.

I'm not sure if ME save files track what class you are, but it would be cool. Just need to make them slight enough so that it isn't too much of a game breaker. It would help on higher difficulty levels, at the very least. Maybe scale them to your difficulty level? Normal mode gets default benefits, Insanity nets higher benefits?

Just a thought. Discuss. Is this a good idea? What benefits would you like to see?

I would rather not, infiltrator in ME1 was a retarded soldier, where in ME2 it was better. so my infiltrators all started as soldiers and then went to sniper school..

Nah, then I'd be stuck with Adept, which I didn't like at all in ME2.

I stayed loyal to all my classes from ME1 to ME2. I intend to do the same for ME3.

That's be nice, but the overpowered characters (Sentinels) would get even more hate as they do now. A reward for carrying from 1-3 would be nice; however, this one would see more turned-up-noses as if nose-bleeds are perpetual.

And yes, I was a Sentinel from the beginning and will remain thus until the end.

Infiltrator's weren't that bad, infact they were the class I beat Insanity on in ME1,although I guess that isn't saying much since Insanity in ME1 wasn't very challenging.

the infiltrators abilities came in handy in ME1(nowhere near as much as in ME2 though)

I messed around with a couple of classes, and I found that my first choice, Sentinel, just works best for me in both games so far. Would I like a bonus for staying true? That would be nice, ofcourse, but maybe in the form of an extra level or two to allocate squadpoints. Because the bonusses you suggest would change gameplay severely, which would lead some to stick with a class they don't actually enjoy that much for one of the games.

Maybe higher level infiltrators did, dunno, lvl 1 to around 15 or how far I got one was a pain.

I am more for a achievement or Trophy for uploading your Shepard into ME3. I feel that would encourage people to go out and get the other 2 games because there are some people who like getting all Achievements/Trophies.

In ME2 there was an achievement that unlocked on first playthrough if you had imported a save from ME1, if you had not used a save that achievement would come on subsequent playthrough. I expect something simliar to this.

Yeah thats not the type of one i am referring to, one you can only get by uploading a Shepard from the previous game.

I've been "loyal" to all my classes (so far I have 4 - got to do 2 more playthroughs of ME and ME2), but I don't think a bonus would be fair. Eh, I don't know. Maybe they could have an achievement or something. Just seems unnecessary.

The possibility to change your classe from importing an ME1 save was supposed to save people from making a totaly new playthrough in order to start a new ME2 playthrough.
If it changes now, that would be meaningless, it would be a pain to force people to play ME1 + ME2 in order to get a passive bonus in ME3. If there is bonus, people wants want's it or they would feel cheated.

While it would make sens, it's not player friendly, not to mention that some save editor could appear and do the trick, totaly breaking the purpose of this "loyal bonus"; then we would have complain from player saying "not fair ! i had to go through 2 games to get this bonus honestly" while other would answer "sorry but i don't want to make a 50h playthrough in order to strat my new ME3 playthrough, i just want to enjoy the game ! save editor power ! ".

^ Speaking of which, regarding that last part:

While I have beaten both games multiple times and imported a character from 1-2, would anything happen if I played ME1 again since it's the character I started with? Would it affect 2 which would essentially affect 3? (It's sounds weird)

Is the game even tracking what classes you've had? It makes sense that there'd be no trace of your ME1 class and abilities in any of the actual ME2 saves since...why would they have thought it to be relevant?

Either way I think it's a bad idea. All my characters stick to their respective classes so that's not it, it's more like...why? What's the point? If there was a bonus it would be small so as to not upset the balance and if it's small, who cares.

Besides the tech abilities and the pistol the Infiltrator class was indeed pretty underwhelming. You had to max out the Sniper Rifle points and get the best rifle possible in order for Shep to be able to hold it straight and not act like he's drunk and has broken hands. If that wasn't enough, the pistol outclassed the sniper rifle to the point that it made it completely worthless.

I don't think the ME2 save files record your class in ME1.

But not changing your class from ME2 to ME3 should provide a bonus IMO. Even if it's only aesthetic.
