One my biggest disapointments about the Engineer class is that they do very little hacking(aside from stealing credits from safes ofcorse).  I want there to be certain missions where i have the opportunity to hack a turret or security mech to aid me in combat.  I'm not talking about the temporary AI Hack ability but an in-world object which ONLY an Engineer can interact with.

Maybe you could find some explosive charges that can be rigged to blow when enemies get near them.  Or you can override an airlock door to suck a number of enemies into space so you don't have to fight that many.

Any other ideas?

1- Egineer already gets deployable turrets in ME3.. so theres that

2- Only if other classes get special missions too it wouldn't be fair to give one class Special treatment.
2A The egineer is already the least played class I doubt Bioware would give it special missions if one class did get them
2B class specific Missions While its a nice Idea would take to much time and work that could be spent elsewhere

ME is too linear to give specific options for each class.

bioware cant even get the classes right as is. lets let them work that out first, before we get ahead of ourselves.

^^Time they could spend doing what, instead? It would have a direct impact on the character's identity and the gameplay, and could lead to interesting story paths. Exclusive missions are another thing, but context-sensitive solutions for different classes/approaches to problem solving totally make sense. I've kind of wondered why there hasn't been much done with it before, really- badass or not, engieshep lunging at Vasir seemed, shall we say, a bit uncharacteristically temperamental/cocky, where it would've probably been more a natural reaction for a vanguard.

The least they could do is give class-specific dialogue, I would think. It seems odd to me that nobody ever mentions Shep's biotic talents or gadget proficiency, though it's a huge part of many other characters' identities, and even plays a part in DA2 for Hawke. The series' friggin big fat motif is choice, right? More choices on how to handle a situation should be a nobrainer. Delicious RP potential, too.

I don't think engie being the least played class should have anything to do with whether they get treated like, y'know, engineers :P

Yeah, it might be interesting to have special paths for each class, based on their abilities. But tragically this is Mass Effect, not Deus Ex haha.

im not saying its a bad idea. its a great idea. i just dont think bioware will do it.

also, its not that the engineer lunging at vasir was out of character, its that your a paragon, and you did a renegade action. not all vangaurds are renegades too.

bioware isnt making the gameplay different for each class, other then the one ability that is that classes signature.

Lol...really? Because when I re-play ME1 its painfully obvious how much better fleshed out classes are in ME2. classes are very well defined in ME2, sure they could use some tweaking...but I cant imagine what more you could ask for beyond that and the promised talent evolution.

well how about an adept that uses singularity, pull, warp, warp ammo, stasis, barrier, and dominate. thatd be a pretty good reason.

ME2 classes show little progresion past level 10ish in ME2. can you compare a level 20 to a level 60 character in ME1? no, becasue they arent even close.

i meant ME is linear in level design. if it wasnt linear, adepts and singularity would be soooo much worse then they already are or seem to be by some people.

No, Engineers already get an out of combat bonus, you know the 25% reduction when upgrading?

I should've specified @Arrow before, my bad TST.

What I meant about the engie/Vasir thing was that I found it odd that THAT's the solution somebody who's a dedicated tech/badass brain thought to try. It's like, you've already got a couple people training guns on Vasir, so how can I contribute here? And then engie shep goes with trying to dogpile on an asari commando, reputed to be one of the most dangerous kinds of fighters in existence, and a Spectre on top of that. Looks to me like somebody might've been a little braindead for a second there. It's true that it's weird on the paragon/renegade level, but it feels even weirder because that's not even how engieshep is supposed to roll, 'nawmean?

And I see no reason why a game should aspire to be less like Deus Ex >:[ At least throw me a bone and let engieshep have a different response to the engineers "boring the commander with tech" or something.

@VegasVance: That's on the right track, but I'm not trying to just say engineers alone should be getting more love. Let the Infiltrator hint at some sniping expertise or talk about wetwork, let the soldier have a special Hold the Line! moment, let the vanguard have some kind of option to break enemy lines and spread extra chaos with biotics. Let the sentinel have a moment where a combination of tech and biotic shields are put up when under heavy fire or be a medic or something, let the engie, uh, engineer a solution relevant to a mission's tech situation. There's so many possibilities for just a lot more stuff with a couple of specific class options, both on the gameplay and story ends. They don't have to be everywhere, but a little something to set the classes apart beyond the combat would be just the right itch to scratch, imo.

Engineers are officially the least popular class.
Anything to give them some more love would be nice.

It's in the name and the playstyle, I only see one of those changing plus Engineers got the most love in ME2 gamewise.

Popularity doesnt mean much though...the weapon classes seem to rule supreme, and with the weapon restriction changes in ME3 that could very well switch up the class popularity balance.

Honestly I love Engineer, its alot of fun. The Drone on Insanity is invaluable.

This should already have been in the game, and not just for that class.

Lower level requirement to unlock powers, maybe?

Truth. When I mentioned Mass Effect tragically not being more like Deus Ex up there, I really did mean tragically. Of course, an actual deus ex game is coming out soon so I should at least be able to make some headway on my nonlinear level fix haha.

I don't like the idea of content being restricted based on the PC'S class alone. I do support, however, content that can only be accessed via specific classes.

Example - Shepard has the opportunity to hack a security console to reprogram a group of hostile mechs. However, Shepard is an adept, thus does not possess the knowledge to do this on his/her own. Instead of giving up, Shepard can call on a teammate with tech abilities to do the hacking for him/her (pure tech classes have the highest success rate. Actually, scratch that - a separate skill strictly for non-combat hacking would be even better). This way no class is needlessly devoid of content, and the game receives an additional layer of complexity (aka choice).

Of course Shepard can do this on his/her own, but he/she would obviously need to be one of the tech oriented classes.

Let engineers craft their own weapon modifications. Modified modifications, if you will.

Check the known features thread. It's been mentioned in the printed magazines.

If Engineer is the least played class then why wouldn't they add a few features to make it more appealing to players?

That was a nice bonus but i still need Mordin to unlock the Tech lab.  I don't see why Engineers can't get early access to the Tech lab aswell.  You can whine about how it wouldn't be fair to other classes but you'd still have to go out and search for the upgrades.

This is exactly what i'm talking about!  One specific example that comes to mind is when you hack the mechs the Mercs use to attack Garrus.  Maybe if your an Engineer then the hack on the Ymir mech lasts a couple seconds longer, letting you focus on fighting the Mercs.  It's not anything that would cripple other classes just something to make playing an Engineer more fun.

I really don't know why they can't have a few extra lines of dialog which identify your character's skills.  It doesn't have to be for EVERY class just biotic and tech users.

I'm all for class-based environmental kills, on occasion. I do think that having someone on your team with the neccesary skills to do the job should be required, but not neccesarily Shepard alone. If you need something hacked, you need a tech. If you need something ripped outta the wall, you need a biotic. Etc, etc.

These sound like some fun cutscene (interrupt) options, but as Bogsnot1 brings up, what more could we need for gameplay?
