Well, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to notice this. After I thought about for a while, I think that they are also rewarding the loyal fans who stalk the forums and keep up with all the news. We get the first look at whatever is coming before they make the official announcement. It's a win-win situation for the company and the fans.

Yes, it's a good way to get some unofficial feedback on what they've got going on before they reach the point of no return.

Well, sometimes it's okay and sometimes just wrong. Revealing that Cerberus will be enemies was kinda a painful mistake.

It's highly inconceivable that a company as established as Bioware can continuously have these "hiccups", and you just know that 90% of 'leaks' of this nature are from within the main source (i.e. the company). OP is spot on.

Also, could someone clarify/outline this "Prothean DLC" for me? Thanks.

Trouble is, a Prothean squadmate is a huge spoiler if it's true. Everyone thinks they are extinct apart from the mutated Collectors (who are now also extinct, presumably). Actual Protheans in ME3 is almost certainly related to the plot to foil the Reapers as survivors would have been spending the last 50,000 years trying to come up with a way to defeat them.

It's hard to think how the idea of a Prothean squadmate could have found its way onto packaging if Protheans weren't in ME3 in some capacity so basically - huge spoiler - which I'm a little annoyed about as I'd have rather been surprised in the game.

I'm not so sure it's deliberate.

Regards

Julian

It's confirmed that the DLC is regarding a Prothean squadmate, not an artifact location or something?

Actually, all we have is the origal post for the CE edition stating Day 1 DLC – the Prothean (Adventure/Character).
This was then changed to Additonal Downloadable Mission and Character. The only explination given for this is the quote below.

Sorry, that was a mistake from old text. It is being removed. Hate to be a killjoy.

Oh wait... no I don't. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png[/smilie]

However, as the OP says, this is very much in line with past "accidental" DLC leaks.

Isn't the opposite of that?

With other leaks, Bioware hasn't outright said they were wrong. They either ignored the threads about the leak, locked the threads or came out and said that information would come soon. With the Prothean DLC we've had Bioware say it is wrong. Given the reaction of the BSN to things like the community bananza thing last year, it would be a very bad move for them to outright lie about something and Bioware knows this. I think it is either a genuine mistake or something taken very far out of context.

I really don't think they'd want to spoiler something like that. Maybe other leaks weren't genuine but I very much doubt that was anything but an accident.

It would be extremely easy to do as, in house, they'd almost certainly be referring to such a dlc as a new Prothean character even though they wouldn't have wanted to call it that in public to avoid spoilers.

They haven't said it's wrong they've just said that the text was a mistake. Which it was. The text shouldn't have revealed such a spoiler.
