 I've been having fun playing through the game and getting some of the less-common outcomes. But it seems a couple of them are bugged, namely:

If you convince Gascard duPuis to help you in the fight against Quentin, in the next act he will send you a thankyou letter saying that some item he no longer needs has been enclosed, but upon accepting the letter no item is received.

If you turn Fenris over to Danarius, again, you'll get a thank-you letter from Danarius later on, saying a reward item is enclosed, but nothing is received in the inventory.

I know these aren't big deals, but still, it would have been nice to get *some* sort of reward for going out of the way to do things differently

It seems that the lack of an accompanying item with Danarius's letter is a known bug or oversight - it's mentioned in the wiki. Or maybe it's intentional. A big "Thanks, but sod off" from the mage. I couldn't find anything about Gascard though.

I guess the underlying reward would be the XP? The warm, fuzzy feeling?  But I wouldn't know because neither survived their encounters with my Hawke(s).
