Awful romance.
Least useful squadmate( not useless, but still).
His distrust for Thane is ridiculous.
Whines when braking up romance with him.
Pretty much that.
Not really. Thane is an assassin. A gun for hire. On first impression I would be distrustful of him too.

And I'm all for speaking your mind, but Jacob? Don't diss every new squadmate right to their faces. Speak to Shep in private afterwards and voice your concerns, seriously.
Oh, and FemShep's voice while talking to him makes me avoid him at all costs.

Except Thane has done nothing to warrant that suspicion.
Who is Jacob to judge, wilfull Cerberus operative? Great way to make the alien feel welcomed on the mission, given the reputation of the sponsors.

what?
Really? You're right, no doubt, I guess I just remember him being more negative
And FemShep's voice is just awkward around him. "I'm more interested in just talking for a bit." You can't deny that her tone of voice is suggestive, which is annoying if you're trying not to romance him. Also, I'd like to take the Paragon options with him most of the time, but it usually leads into a romance initiator.
I should've mentioned that I don't dislike him, I'm just indifferent about him.

but that "interested in talking for a bit"... OY. especially since if you do romance him, mid romance, there's a perfectly normal sounding voice over, with no sleaziness in Shep's voice: "lets just talk, you and me, unofficial"
oh yeah, I remembered another instance when he's super cautious. legion. and again, he has a point, especially since he was there, on eden prime.

that would have been enough alone Since I only play femshep I hate the way she talks to him, the only time in this game where I ever feel the voice acting was an abomination worthy of apocalypse. The only time I miss DAO's nonvoiced protagonist is when femshep tries to talk to Jacob. I never have talked to him beyond the first convo just because of that.
He also has some super huge horse teeth and femshep is just shallow like that.

I did find it strange that we go through this long recruitment mission to find this assassin, and first thing Jacob does when he goes onboard is questioning him. It could've been done better, that's for sure.

My thing with Jacob after Thane's RM is how he just dismisses him as a merc. What the hell are you Jacob? Even Shepard at the beginning of the game called him a gun for hire to TIM.Aeowyn wrote...

yes Femshep has to initiate, but OMG you ahve to initiate ALL romances (besides Liara's sine she asks you) but what's this? Jacob says he wants to take it slow since onenighting your CO gets you airlocked. after his dad's taken care of with hwoever you chose he sweeps it aside and Asks you what's bothering you if anyhting, only DLC Liara does that in depth. After that he tells you how much you get to him and that he cares about you. After his attempt at being suave, he flat out Tells you that he doesn't care what happens at the base and that he loves you. If that's terrible then you have no taste for romance.

He sort of reminds me of Carver from DA2 (also written by Jacob's writer). He's looking for a purpose in life but he's not quite sure what it is. He joins the Corsairs to see the galaxy and fight for the Alliance, but leaves because he doesn't care for the red tape. He joins Cerberus, a group that places few restrictions upon him, but finds that he doesn't always agree with their methods.
However unlike Carver, Jacob never leaves only to return later as a changed man while this might be the case in ME3, it isn't the case now, which is a shame.

My thought is that, while it might be weird, Jacob is a finished Character. He doens't have any angst passed what his dad did, and he gets over that after it's done. He's the one that doesn't need to be baby sat as it's put with some of the other squaddies. He's there to be Shepard's Rock like Liara says. The one person who can support them and be there when they need it. Even if you don't romance him you can still get a bro hug from him, another first along with his "what do you have to vent?" convo and saying "I love you"Dr. Doctor wrote...
To me Jacob's issue is that he really lacks any sort of real character development, his loyalty mission doesn't really give us much insight into his character other than him being indifferent to the outcome, the LM's ending cutscene with TIM gives us more insight into Miranda's personality than Jacob's.

Heck Kaidan was called a whiner. He gives tactical analysis voluntarily and gives person info at Shepard's behest. Yet he is was called a whiner. Garrus was more fitting of the title but he was cool looking alien....and the rest is history.

I never had a problem with his character, to be honest, he wasn't one of my favorites, but he was that character that I enjoyed having around. He spoke his mind, asked questions, kept a cool head, and above all else, showed respect to his commanding officer.
nnnnyes and no. Jacob shows the #1 failure with this "cinematic conversation" thing BioWare is so fixated on. He clearly behaves as though he's still in the Alliance; he thinks of Shepard as an Alliance superior, addresses her that way, salutes her on occasions when it would be appropriate to salute. But when he's talking to her? He leans. He paces. He looks around. He crosses his arms. He turns his back on her.
The talking head thing with two camera angles actually worked really well with Kaidan and Ashley in ME1. Because if you're talking to a superior officer in the military? You damn well stand straight and your right foot does not move from where it's planted.
Also, there's not much friendly and respectful about "Already? I'm not big on forcing these talks." He has easily the single most hostile "out of things to say" banter of the whole crew, short of Jack - ambient non-party staff included. I imagine that's part of what turned off a lot of dudeShep players, even without having to endure watching their Sheps go after him like a cat in heat.
(IDK what the Thane thing was about. I think it's just Jacob projecting. He himself is a gun for hire - he left the Alliance the minute their rules got too annoying for him, and he's outright said he'll do the same for Cerberus - and he feels bad about not meeting his own standards so he takes it out on Thane. Why in that case he has no issue with Zaeed, well.... Zaeed is DLC.)
