Being racist isn't disliking another race more then your own.

Being racist is acknowledging that skin color is part of ones personality, period.

So I guess Anderson is just really tan?

WTF does Anderson have to do with Jacob? Jacob is shallow and stereotyped, but I've no doubt the PC police will call me a racist for saying so.

Nothing really. They're just basically saying "Anderson is black and so is Jacob, and people like Anderson, so you can't say people dont like Jacob because he's black even tho I'm disregarding the fact that Anderson is nearly a non-factor in ME-2 while Jacob is a crew mate".

In my personal opinion, it's not that Jacob is black, it's that he's black, doesn't fit the negative stereotypes associated with black characters written by non-black writers, and simply the majority of ME-2 gamers can't relate to him.

I actually like Jacob. I think he's sensible, reliable and an excellent man to have your back in a fight, and who you can rely on to get things done.

Trouble is, he's extremely boring as a PERSON, because there doesn't seem to be anything deeper to him. Aside from the business regarding his father and the brief fling he had with Miranda, we never learn much else about him or his backstory. Does he have any hobbies? Where did he grow up? Does he believe in a religion? Does he have any fears, hopes or dreams? Even if you romance him, most of the conversations you have with him end up with him denying that there's anything deeper to him and a lot of meaningless flirtation that feels half-hearted.

den if that really happened dere would be a mill posts in da jacob thread sayin "OMG JACOB SO HOT JACOB 4 PERM IN ME3 I WHIP MY HUR BACK AND FORTH"

its why miranda is so popular. its cuz of her "ass"ets. i am a miranda fan. les be real - if she was fugly she'd have as many posts in her topic as da jacob one.

ppl just dont wanna face da fact dat its cuz hes blk n ugly, not that bein black automatically makes u ugly, but hes a blk dude dats ugly too

he coulda been blind & deaf for all i care, and if he looked like dat dude in da pic i posted, his topic would been off da charts right now

Wow, everyone blew this way out of proportion.

I'm not going to get pulled into a debate about political correctness. It had nothing to do with my post. It isn't that difficult to figure out what I meant.

By using Anderson as evidence that race isn't a possible factor in why Jacob's characterization is under-appreciated/disliked is disregarding the fact that Anderson isn't really a part of ME-2.

Sorry if you misunderstood, but that isn't even remotely close to what I meant. My post had absolutely nothing to do with the characterization of Jacob or Anderson. I thought I made this clear.

Because of Jennifer Hale's voice acting. And he was vaguely rude to Tali after she was acting like a jerk to him.

Considering Shepard has the option of freaking out over their being an A.I. on the ship, I think Jacob had every right to give Tali a heads up. Now, if Jacob had made an extra snippy line like "so don't cause any problems" or something like that, i'd see your point, but I don't see any ill will in what he said.

The only person who I'd say Jacob was actually rude to was Thane. But unfortunately, Bioware choose not to follow up on it (no party banter, no squad conflict) so it was just randomly dropped after that one scene.

Jacob can be "rude" to Tali, so her legion of Talimancers demand vengeance.

Jacob cannot seem to grasp that hit men can be deeply religious, loving parents, and awesome LIs (I suppose).

Jacob can, if female Shepard tries to play him against Garrus during romancing (a DIFFICULT thing to do), say something racist about Turians ("Cuttlebones," I believe).

Jacob doesn't need Shepard to fix his self esteem and his loyalty to Shepard is based more on professionalism than engaging in invasive personal chats that allow players to believe that they are budding psychologists.

Only Jacob's loyalty mission can feature someone being killed by a falcon punch. The fact that no one does this during Garrus' or Jack's loyalty mission is perhaps one of Bioware's more controversial decisions till the introduction of multiplayer.

Jacob stood there while Hale made female Shepard sound like she was in heat. I'm not exactly sure how that is Jacob's fault, but suggesting that Hale MAY have overacted a bit in that scene will lead to her legion of fans crying for vengeance.

Jacob wanted to destroy Legion. That means that, in the unlikely event there is ever a Mass Effect crossover with Star Trek, he might just be rude to Commander Data, and that's just wrong.

THANK YOU!

You can make a case out of Jacob being rude to Thane or having too introverted of a personality, but a lot of the "popular" complaints against him are just outright asinine.

Okay, this I want to read. How is Jacob like Shaft?

Jacob is not Shaft. For one, he doesn't wear leather. Two, he doesn't put the moves on female Shepard, she has to do most of the work. Three, he is more concerned with his lover's emotional well being than his own physical gratification. Four, he doesn't blow people away with a smile or tough guy pose while spouting a witty one-liner. Five, he has biotics.

He is, however, Black. As is Shaft. And they both use guns.

well more like rude to Seven of Nine, but yeah

I still maintain that his distrust of Thane is justified, it just sucks that we don't get any follow up on it.

Well, he's a dull, flat, uninteresting character with no identifying personality traits and little in the way of true character development and has a tendency to drop like a sack of bricks in combat.

And he's black.
