I think we all need to be reminded of how retarded ' The prize' really was.

Well, he's a dull, flat, uninteresting character with no identifying personality traits and little in the way of true character development and has a tendency to drop like a sack of bricks in combat.

And he's black.

So, you are upset with the lines he used before you two started having sex. You prefered, "Be alive with me tonight!"?

He's a yes-man. Why in the hell did they have to make the only black character a suck up? It's ridiculous.

That's from the Thane romance, right? I thought that line was Shepard's, not Thane's.

Jacob is. Shaft is a cliche, and Jacob is too.

The prize is winding up with the only male LI in ME2 who knows you're supposed to take off your clothes when getting ready to have sex. Poor Garrus, he waited until Shepard was out of the shower and fully dressed.

Jacob? Jacob who calls Shepard out on BS, who expresses his opinions, whether they are favorable or not - is a Yes man? all the while every other squadmate puts up no resistance and just immediately dissolves into "whatever you say, Shepard"

I find his prize line - awkwardly cute.  but I guess, only aliens are allowed to be awkward.

Didn't really dislike him, but was bored with him. My reasons:

On my first playthrough, I picked female Shepard. She liked Jacob instantly, he was nice to her at the beginning, and he wanted her to trust him, which was sweet. Then we're on the ship, and she decides to talk to Jacob...

The words that came out of her mouth made me shudder. The tone of her voice...ugh. That very moment I decided that there will be NO romance. But we can still be friends, right?

But no. For some reason, Jacob, who seemingly had no problem with me, is constantly very rude to me out of blue. At some point, it occurred to me that I don't HAVE to talk to him. At some point later, it occurred to me that I don't even have to take him on any of the missions. After that, I pretty much erased him out of my mind.

Even Zaeed, a cold-blooded killer, knows how to get rid of Shepard without insulting him. Why can't Jacob inform me that he has no new conversations without being so insulting about it? Well, if you don't want to talk, we won't talk. Ever.

And then, he has a pretty horrifying loyalty mission, and he's so utterly unshaken about it. I get it that he doesn't want to dwell on it, I do. But it came across like he was walling off Shepard, and didn't trust her at all to open up to her. And really, emerging out of something like that unscathed, he's just way to perfect for my liking. Invulnerable is boring.

What shakes him? What drives him? What is his greatest fear? What is his greatest desire? I can't get a feel of his character. He's simply...not there. Granted, Samara was much worse. She was practically nonexistent. But at least she had a purpose.

And he had a lovely moment with Tali, when he greets her and she throws a temper tantrum like a little princess about having to work on this horrible ship with these horrible people, and she'd gladly use a grenade on all this horrible stuff. And then he tells her to introduce herself to the ship's new AI. :D Meaning, girl, this ship is much more horrible than you had thought. She was rendered speechless at that moment. Must have realized that if she continued with the insults, she'd have no reason whatsoever to stay on this ship - the worst possible place in the galaxy. She talked herself into a corner, there. Priceless how he handled her without a word of insult.

But I can't remember any more memorable moments with him. Oh, but wait. There's one, where he tells Shepard that she's the perfect example of humanity.

^ This. My biggest beef is how rude he can be with Shepard. I haven't played ME2 in a while but I think I remember him questioning Shep about a lot of things in rude/bad timing situations. And FShep becoming a total ho-bag around him doesn't help either.

I'm still stunned that someone actually thinks a character that can synthesize the essence of Shaft AND a "yes-man" is cliche. Damn, that'd make him one of the most multi-faceted characters in Bioware history.

He's Shaft when hitting on Femshep. He's uncle tom otherwise. Played the game several times, Jacob is certifiably lame.

It's different, because Jacob himself isn't being awkward - he's trying to be suave. It's the line itself that's awkward. And bad.

I actually like Jacob, because like you said, he's a really good character who I would trust. Buuttt, he's just kind of boring overall, so although I do like him, he's my least favorite.

I like everyone except Jacob, so the possibility of someone liking all twelve shouldn't be that low.

Ah, a thread about how much Jacob sucks as a character. Now this I can get down with! I find him boring because he is incapable of having any kind of decent, thought provoking conversation with my manShep. More so: everyone of the other crew members has some sort of revelation when it comes to their loyalty missions, but even in this case, Jacob might as well be a prop in the scenery for all his reaction is worth it

I swear to God, they could have replaced him with a Wacky Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man and my manShep wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.

I like Jacob too.  I think his problem with many people is that he;s a mere mortal on a crew of demigods.

I mean he's "only" a former Alliance marine/corsair, biotic, survivor of Eden Prime. Hero of the Citadel in his own right.  How can he possibly compare to a drell superassassin, a geth "literal army of one", a Cerberus lab rat superbiotic, a genetically engineered "pure krogan"?

But when I interacted with Jacob, I saw a frustrated Alliance soldier tired of bureacracy and red tape, of being second-guessed by his superiors.  The guy wanted to go out and do something.  Of course he's going to jump on the Shepard bandwagon!  Shepard gets results, and defies authority to do so!  In many ways Jacob is what Shepard could have been if he Collectors hadn't interfered.

Plus, compared to the others, he was pretty stable  Sure he had daddy issues, but so does half the crew.  He at least claims to be over it.  He's an island of relative calm on a ship full of emotional crises.  My Shepard would be glad to "spill some drinks on the Citadel" with him.

As soon as we got him a uniform that doesn't make him look like the 22nd century version of Batman:innocent:

I've never really liked Jacob. I felt like.. in the beginning when me and him met, he could of cared less.
He just wanted me to trust him so a mech wouldn't bust a bullet in his butt .
I let that slide.. I mean , not everyone is going to like everyone. Like Pressly on the regular Normandy, he didn't like the non-humans. I got that vibe from Jacob, but just not about the non-humans, but just to my Shepard.. well any Shepard.

Like I said, I let it slide. So then I go talk with him, try and use the little buddy-system since were going to be working with each other and when we talk, he gives me this..glare. He squints his eyes at me. That kinda crossed it, but since I'm a paragon Shepard, I'll let that slide also.

Now lets fast-forward to the romance. I figured he wouldn't treat me so badly and squint his eyes at me like I'm a collector or something, if I romanced him. He still did that to me in the romance. And then after I would say something nice he would end the chat. Well in that chat I called it official , me and Jacob were dating. .. He...still...kept...SQUINTING at me. So I went to Garrus, made it official with Garrus, I went to go break up with Jacob and then he calls Garrus a cuttlebone? * Tear* , No one calls Garrus a cuttlebone under my command.

On another save I didn't break up with him for Garrus or Thane, I manned up and stuck with Jacob. And everyone here knows about that gut wrenching line of Jacobs " Heavy risk, but the priiize."
That done it.

Jacobs punishment for all that : Getting carried away by the seeker swarm on the suicide mission.

I'm trying to imagine how awkward and silent a night at the bar would be with Jacob.

"What do you wanna talk about."
"I dunno."
"Let's talk about Akuze."
"No."
"Wanna here my story on Eden Prime?"
"Sure, fine."
"Something something something blah blah Shepard blah blah."
