(Brand) New to these forums and this topic caught my eye. I guess I must be in the minority here in this thread after reading it. I then decided to create profile (something I rarely do on any site really, but have been getting into gaming more over the past few years) and offer my two cents. I agree with the recycled maps, that did become tiresome, fast, but nothing else bothered me. I just got the game a month ago, and I got Origins from its release. While I admit I liked Origins better, I still really liked DA2. The combat was fun, I really felt a connection with my companions (I love Isabela and Merill). I liked the direction the game took. It doesn't play like most RPGs I typically play, but I liked how it seems to make an adventure out of the story, for want of a better description. It just goes to show that each person has their own tastes.

I think we should all decide which Stage of Dragon Age II Grief we are at:

Denial: "No! This can't be Dragon Age II! BioWare wouldn't do this! They've always made good games! This is a dream, a bad a dream! The waves, the elves that look like donkey fish, the reused areas...this cannot be!"

Anger: "How could BioWare put out this rubbish? They sold out, goddamnit! Damn console kiddies and Call of Duty fanboys! I want the developers heads on a platter! I am now going to vocally proclaim my disgust at this game on the internet! I HATE YOU ALL, WAAAAAAAGGHHH!!!!"

Bargaining: "All right, all right, maybe the game gets better. Maybe if I just post my issues in the Constructive Criticism thread, the devs will listen and make Dragon Age III the best game ever. Maybe the DLC will salvage the game. Maybe..."

Depression: "Oh, it's pointless! This is how the game is and this is how it's always going to be! Nothing I say will ever change that! The Dragon Age I love is dead and gone and it's never coming back! Oh, woe is me!"

Acceptance: "Well, I guess this is what BioWare feels is the right direction for Dragon Age. I wish them luck with that; I hope they get all those new fans they were hoping for. In the meantime, I've got plenty of other games to play. I just hope Mass Effect 3 is good."

Anger.

Great post!

I'm currently at acceptance with disappointment. There are moments I miss Anders, Varric and Fenris and play for a bit just to see them - but for the most part I'm playing Origins again and other games.

Fixed that for you.

I agreed with most of it but the last one... Bioware might of felt it was the 'right' direction at the time, but I think DA2 tanking kind of demonstrates it wasn't.

Well I tried the latest PS3 patch and the DLC, it didn't enhance my enjoyment of the game. I'm near the end of Act 3 but after turning in another 3 Qunari swords for some XP and Gold and feeling like, um wow?

I ejected the disc from my PS3 and I doubt I will ever finish Act 3. I've also removed Mass Effect 3 from my pre-order list and now I'll just wait til that is $19.99 before I even consider buying it.

Note: I beat DAO, DAA, and ME1 multiple times each.
I never could force myself to play through the final act in ME2 either.

Which leads me to believe the direction Bioware is taking their Action RPGs is a direction that is boring gameplay wise to me, whereas I used to be compelled by the gameplay to keep playing and replay and restart etc..

Now I have to force myself to run from point A to point B and resist the urge to fast forward all the talking head parts.

Oh well, I'm sure Bioware doesn't really care what an old school gamer like me thinks anyway. Or at least, they don't have the desire or resources to make games like DAO/BG2/ME1 anymore.

A mixture of anger and depression, minus the damn console kiddies part.

Still can't believe Bioware said they wanted to get the Call of Duty crowd.

phahahahahahahahahahaha what were they thinking

. Like @Sabriel said, the first act was plain tedious, having to do an endless amount of side missions just to advance the plot.

For me, forget the story problem, the GAMEPLAY tedium of ACT 1 removes any possible incentive for me to replay this game.  Which also removes the possibility of me enjoying a Dual Wield Rogue or Mage Hawke character.

I'd rather play 10 hours of The Fade than 2 hours of Act I DA2 again

I was going to say I'm surprised people still misinterpret that quote but... I'm really not. They (BioWare) said the progressions systems in Call of Duty might help shooter fans more easily transition into the RPG genre and find out they like it. They didn't say they wanted to make Call of Duty: Thedas or something.

Four months and we're still arguing about the game? Eh, screw it no point in starting that up.

I've definitely gotten more critical of the game, not as fond of it as I was when I first played it. Not a bad game but it is one of Bioware's lesser games and the problems are much clearer now. At the moment I'm on the cusp of selling the bloody thing to get From Dust or Deus Ex.

Ooooh, yes I have had that thought to, some very nice RPGs coming out soon, my wallet doesn't like it, but who cares. With the Witcher 2, Deus Ex and Skyrim, I think I am set for a while (ME3, I'll wait and see) I have not heard of From Dust though?

Acceptance with a little depression and anger now then (those reared their ugly head with the new Gorilla-locks, Skeletor screwed the gorilla at the zoo. But I am playing DAO again (started my dwarva commoner) and it helps ease the pangs. I have The Witcher 2 and a slew of Steam summer sale games to play too. That sale is just evil.

To answer the OP, I've cooled down and am no longer disappointed by the flop known as Dragon Age 2. It's behind me. I'm looking forward to reading unbiased, unpaid reviews of Dragon Age 3 when it is released.

Well, here is to hoping that with DA3 they take a good sized step back towards Origins-type game. I guess we will see if Bioware is going to put their money where their mouth is and really listen to the objections the "core Bioware fan base" had with DA2.

^This.

I do not dwell on things I dislike. Makes me unhappy. I prefer focusing on things I do enjoy.

There should be an "Indifference" stage, for I am leaning towards it.

Indifference: "Oh well, they are going in a direction I am not interested in and what I saw significantly reduced my interest in the franchise / universe. I no longer await news from Bioware eagerly (on DA and / or in general), and their games are no longer blind or first day buys. I'll only check them out after reading reviews thoroughly."

I am between Bargaining and Indifference, leaning towards the latter.

Pretty much this. Plus, after Baldur's Gate 1 and Neverwinter Nights, I can't really look at DA2 as Bioware's worst product. It pretty much had everything I'd expect from Bioware at this point. Imo, of course.

i used to have the Anger, but i got over that quickly.
now, i'm more into Acceptance, with a good portion of Depression and Bargaining, because i get the feeling that i won't return, but i, sadly, i'm a very positive person(more than i would like to).

meanwhile, i'll just Play The Witcher 2, return to DAO and ME2, and wait for DE:HR and DS, until Skyrim and Battlefield 3 come out.

I agree with Persephone.

I am at the Acceptance stage now. The game did stuff badly, it did stuff well. The overall experience for me was fairly positive except for the end of the game and if not for the ending I would have really enjoyed this game.
As it is I dont see Bioware really addressing any of the major concerns I have with this game with Dragon Age 2 as they seem to have no plans for an expansion which is what would be required to tackle said problems.

Thankfully the other team working on ME3 saw how badly DA2 was recieved by the community, largely based on DA2's short Dev Cycle and decided to put that game back 6 months which pretty guarantee's for me that ME3 (combined with ManShep finally being able to get his groove on GayStyle) is a pre-order/insta buy.

I am more angry now about the kind of PR speak and rhetoric coming out of Bioware interviews about this game, things that for me is blatantly untrue and/or unfair things to say. Ray Muzukya's (I think it was Ray at least. Most stupid ass comments coming from BW are usually associated with him) claim that the people who didn't like DA2 were fans who couldnt accept change for example.
If anything is going to stop me from buying the DLC, and from paying for an expansion; or even potentially turning me off of getting DA3 - it would be that.

Mistakes were made with this game. I would like to see this being admitted to (on BWs part), being accepted (by fans), and would like now to move on.
