Today my feelings are chaotic neutral about DA2. I wish there were old school "alignments" i could choose during character design.

Nothing has changed for me either. Deeply disappointed by the game at release and I remain so months later.

I just don't care about DA anymore. I only post on the forums just for the heck of it. With the MMO not looking good for me, I am no longer interested in any BioWare projects. ME3? a little bit I guess, still need more information on that to judge.

After playing The Witcher 2 I can see now why I am disappointed with DA2.

Nothing has changed, except I've grown more and more apathetic about the game. It could have been a favorite, but it turned out to be the game I've uninstalled the fastest after completing.

I played DA2 3 times, once for each class, and then stopped but I'm playing it again and I still very much like the voiced protagonist (female Hawke), the characters especially Varrick and most of the quests. I still don't like the reuse of environments, the other quests, the insane spawning of enemies, the lack of substantial story, and the time skips. It's a fun game if you don't treat it as an rpg but treat it as an action adventure which is really what it is. I don't consider it an rpg and it and Mass Effect 2 should have been tagged action adventures. In fact on Steam, both games are not shown under rpg, they are shown under action adventure.

I liked it... to me it felt like Kotor 2 after Kotor 1 it was good had great charactors and it was a great game that was spoilt by publishers rushing the develepers... I would be quite happy to keep hawke's story and all the charactors that come varric, merril etc as i actually enjoyed what they put effort into but give them more time to create the areas and polish them off... its actually quite amazing they did so well with only a year to produce which involves writing concept art animation etc...

I'm replaying DA2 right now, and I have to admit I like it a lot. Excellent storytelling and directing, excellent combat.

The repetition is annoying, however, and I do miss a lot of the finer touches DAO had. But I can see that at its core DAII is an excellent game, marred by a too-short developement cycle. I am willing to overlook the problems this created (re-use of areas, lack of "flavour" elements such as item descriptions and more elaborate itemization), so this allows me to enjoy more.

But in general, aside from those flaws, I enjoy most of Dragon Age II. The companions, the new dialogue, the new combat, the framed narrative, the structure of the story that is more centered on Hawke's journey through the years than on a Big Bad Evil. I love it.

Overall, however, I think the problem with DAII was that it broke too many conventions for RPGs while at the same time suffering from a significant lack of polish due to the short developement time.

Given that it is a sequel to a game that was knee-deep in fantasy conventions (not that DAO didn't eschew its share of tropes), and had an unprecedented level of polish and detail (owing to a rare 5-year dev cycle), and it becomes obvious why DAII was not well received by many fans.

Had DAII had another year to polish and clean up the game, and avoid reusing maps so much, I think the general reaction would have been far more positive. The significant differences from DAO coupled with its objectively lower quality (due to much shorter dev cycle) was simply too much.

Thank you.

See, that baffles me. The only different in RPG elements between DAO and DAII is the removal of character skills.

Is that enough to cancel its RPG status?

All other RPG elements are still there. Is it just that combat is faster-paced?

My point is, objectively the only RPG element that was removed was character skills. Everything else remains. So unless character skills are the determining factor of an RPG, then it remains an RPG.

I still hate this game with a passion. I got tired of coming here to complain and expected a substantial amount of forum users that hated it as well to leave, but it looks like these topics are still prevalent.

As a budget game its okay other than the total lack of choice/different outcomes, so for £9.99 its still a worthwile purchase.

Do hope that bioware aim to get back out of the budget game producer catagory for DA3 (if they make it)

We all are tired of complaining, hence no longer start threads. Why bother? But anyway, every time I start discussing this game with friends (IRL, Steam or PSN chat) I swear a lot and call it "garbage" etc. Guess I'm yet to cool down. I'm actually less passionate on these boards...

I'm still incredibly disappointed and angry over the low quality of this game, but I've burned myself out complaining. I think I'll just not buy any future DA products.

He's talking about another post He/She made in another thread recently, although his/her intention wasn't actually to insult anyone.

I played this right before I started playing The Witcher 2. Needless to say The Witcher 2 BLOWS DA2 out of the water. I actually played through that game 3 times and had a blast every single time.

I've transitioned from boiling rage to simmering resentment at what could have been.

I loved Dragon Age: Origins with all of its DLC and can play it over and over again. I got Dragon Age 2 and did one play through and could barley get myself to do another. I'll probably do one or two more play throughs to get the achievements I missed. Then Dragon Age 2 will just collect dust all day long.

Lots of wrong assumptions ... never meant to insult anyone, and Im not a girl =)

I just tried to say, that people who are focused on inner logic, consistend plot, lore projected in game mechanics, puzzles, long deep dialogs with npc / companions and other non-combat stuff might be dissapointed by the game

but if my usage of word intelectual insulted you, im sorry ...
