Just one: enjoy it!
Oh, and take your time learning how the combat works - biggest complaint from people, but their problem is they don't stop to figure out how it works before complaining.

Use tactics. Pause when necessary. Don't rush things. Enjoy the game and get to know the companions. Unless you hate RPG's. You should love it.

Take the time, a couple of hours, playing several different classes. If you have played an RPG before you probably have an idea of the type of character you are going to build but you could be very surprised by spending a little time in the beginning by giving different classes a chance. It will be time well spent.

1) Don't read the forums. Newbies will eventually post spoilers even in the "General Discussion forum".
2) If you think that the game is too easy/hard, change the difficulty accordingly to your taste
3) Don't restart the game unless you are going to pick up a new origin/class. I did this to get a better overall build for my main character and I regretted later. If you really want to redistribute your skills/spells points, learn how to use the toolset and edit your character. If you think that editing your character = cheating, then finish your first playthrough first
4) If you are stuck in some quest, try to finish it without using the help of google/forum. You will have much more pleasure if you discover alone what to do.
5) Try to not use too much save/load game to reload and pick up a "better" dialogue option. I did this to get the overall best options but I often felt like it wasn't right, after all this is a RPG game and you should play your character accordingly. (if you were playing a RPG of pen&paper, it would be pretty hard/impossible for you to always make the best choices)
6) Try to do most side-quests. If you are playing for too much time and want to start skipping them, then you probably should take a break as you are tired and isn't going to enjoy much the game.
7) Don't be afraid of "experimenting". Even if you make a lot of mistakes, you probably are going to be able to finish the game anyway.
8) Have fun.

Observe everything, don't rush headlong into battle, consider the tactics you are using. Also remember when confronting large numbers of enemies, rogues make excellent decoys. Bring one in under stealth, take a pot shot at an enemy and when he pursues, bring him smack into a party ambush. This way you whittle down large forces into a manageable number.
