This is one factor among many others that can help. Otherwise why Bioware would put the question?

It is obvious that a poll isn't an end, but it counts a bit as the discussions between the employees of Bioware, such as debates among fans.

I hope that you will not say that the people of BSN are the true fans, that we need to listen only them, blah blah.

I prefer a poll of 20,000 or 50 000 people than only fifty and elitist people who think their opinions are better than others. And this is often the case on the BSN.

All it has to be is an option. Also depends if the Quarians get the homeworld back, because then they wouldnt need all that gear? Cant remember if thats correct or not.

Two big points I must present. The first is that the appearance of the quarians has already been verbally explained. I think it was in one of the novels or something, but it was said that they look at least similar to humans. You can't see much in the way of facial features through their helmets, but again, you can clearly see two eyes, a humanoid nose, and an upper lip that looks pretty similar to humans. In all likelihood, if Bioware reveals the quarian race, they will look, at the very least, similar to humans, bowed legs, three-fingered hands and three-toed feet notwithstanding.

Second, Tali's face was revealed to Shepard, if you romanced her, but not to the player. Sure, it added to the mystery and excitement or whatever, but I felt a little cheated at that point. If I'm supposed to be experiencing what Shepard is experiencing, if not, at the very least, seeing what Shepard is seeing, why the hell did I not see the damn face of the woman I was courting? We saw "down under" Miranda's plunging neckline. Jack was nearly topless for the whole game. Is it so much to ask to see Tali's face? There's a big difference between wanting her to be attractive, and wanting to see just what she looks like. Tali's a great character either way, but I feel like Bioware jerked the Tali fans around back there in ME2. Make it right, Bioware, you talented mongrels, you!

Actually its stated that even if they took their homeworld back now they would take a few generations before they could adapt and live without the suits again. So it's not like they'd make it to Rannoch and suddenly all start stripping off.

Chris Priestly wrote...

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I hope we do not reveal her face.

Why not? Well, no matter what she looks like under there or how well a job the team does with the reveal, it will never live up to what I personally have in my own imagination. Don't get me wrong, I know if they choose to reveal her face, they will put a lot of time and effort into making it the moment fans have been waiting for. However, it just won't live up to what I have in my mind's eye.

Take, say, the Harry Potter films. I read the books before seeing the movies and even though I think the cast did an awesome job in the roles they were cast for, they weren't exactly what I had envisioned Dumbledore or house elves looking like, or Snape or dragons sounding like, etc. What was done was awesome work, but it was (for me) just a tiny bit wrong at the same time.

Before Tali's face is revealed there is huge speculation on what she looks like. Is she pretty or ugly, is she humanoid or more alien, nose or no nose, eye and skin color, etc. All the things fans have been guessing and speculating and fan arting for years now. Once we reveal her THAT is what Tali looks like. No more guessing or hoping or whatever. I know that if her face is revealed many people will be happy, but I know there will be those who are upset because we will have "got it wrong". We won't have gotten it wrong as we are the creators and what we say goes (yeah, I know how that sounds, but you get what I mean), but for those people we will have gotten it wrong as we won't have lived up to their vision of what she looks like.

So for me, I hope they don't reveal her face. I also get why people want to see it, but I prefer to leave it up to my imagination to determine her look. Still, I have no say in whether her face is shown or not. Casey and the team will weigh all the pros and cons and make the right choice and we'll all see whether they reveal it or not. Stay tuned. :)

I agree fully, Chris. Some things are just best left as a mystery and to the player's imagination. I believe quarians should be one of those things for Mass Effect.

i totally agree.

Bioware isn't it clear? Either way people will be disappointed though they really have no right to be in this case since IT'S YOUR OWN DAMN GAME AND UNIVERSE - and you should do what you want with it, if you are scared of the reactions you might get you should have never developed your own IP, you should stick to something that would be ''safer'' for you.

Also you will ****** off more people if you don't show her face, so its a ''lesser evil'' if you do show it.

It's still pathetic, if everyone approached a problem in a similar way you are doing it now Bioware the whole human race would be doomed.

All of above is just my opinion if you disagree with it BSN its okay, no need to flame me.

I actually don't agree with Mr. Priestly. It's true that, yes, everyone has a little different picture in their head of what Tali and, indeed, the quarians as a race, look like. Not everyone will be pleased, no matter what decision is made. But trying to please everyone is never, ever possible. That doesn't mean you cop-out of hard decisions when they arise. You soldier on, do what you have to do, and live with the consequences. That's what Mass Effect is all about, isn't it? Not just the story or they player decisions, but the games themselves. A lot of people didn't like the thermal clip system. A lot of people loved the removal of the intricate inventory and simplification of player abilities. A lot of people didn't like that the ME1 LI didn't play a huge role in ME2. These are all things Bioware did anyway. And you know what? Most of the dissatisfied people are still loyal ME fans. I know I am. I will continue to be, through ME3 and beyond.

This whole Tali's face, to reveal or not to reveal fiasco is quite inconsequential. I don't care if I get to see her face or not if the game is rubbish. It won't be, but I'm simply saying that there are more important things to worry about. It is, more or less, just fan service. It is also, however, a pivotal point in many a ME players' experience, and I do think it needs to be addressed, not like the juke Bioware gave us in ME2. It won't live up to everyone's expectations, just like Mr. Priestly was disappointed by the Harry Potter movies. But does that mean you don't make Harry Potter movies? No. You just soldier on, show the world what YOU imagined and conceived in YOUR own IP, and let people form their opinions. There's no such thing as a wrong design. It's up to Bioware's artists and what they think she should look like. Or not. In which case, my argument is academic.

I have an idea: Right before you unmask Tali, the game will pause and jump to charracter creation menu and there you can create your own tali face and then return back to the game.

lol'd

I fail to see what is so funny about that idea...<_<

It's funny because it would be the perfect solution yet it wouldn't. It's so ridiculously over the top and rather silly. I mean what's next? Are we going to get to edit how Ashleys hair should look like in ME3 because some people do not agree with how she looks like right now? Maybe Shepard can get little babies with his LI at the end ME3 and we're going to get an editor to create our own Shepard babies ?

Heck, maybe after Mass Effect 3, BioWare should make a sequel called Sims Effect. Sims Effect could get a lot of expansions, for each species one. Sims Effect: Quarian edition, Sims Effect: Turian edition, Sims Effect: Build Your Own Reaper edition.

NOT revealing what the quarians look like in ME3 would be the easy way out. I would be disappointed in BioWare if they would take the easy way out.

ME2 on FaceBook asked this question as a poll recently. It only has a yes or no option, but the results are still very clear.

So far 15187 people have voted.
87.11% (13230) have voted yes.
12.89% (1957) have voted no.

Facebook Polls are not representative at all as a good deal of possible people won't register in that thing for obvious reasons.

The only less sensical poll would be asked in a "We love Tali" Fanboard.

edit://
And consider the vast amount of Facebook spammers that just participate in polls and such for no good reason other than "hey, ima totally social and have 10000+ friends, brb"

You got another poll with a sample size of 20 thousand? No? Yeah.

So you think a poll on a platform where a majority of answers is made by random people who post just because they can has any real value?

I am sorry for you.

You really think anyone other than a mass effect fan is going to want to be seen voting on a poll about a characters face in a videogame?

true not every fan logs in on the bioware forum I'l guessing the vast majority of these people have played the game and their votes probably represent the average gamer better then this forum.

Also in the art book: They say that the reason they didn't show Tali's face in ME:1 is because she's the sole Quarian in the game and by not showing her face it's easier to embody the entire race trough a single character. This is no longer valed because of ME:2 their are other Quarians then Tali. Also in the ME universe quarian face plates are semi transparent and they apear in magazines (fornax) and public TV without their masks (that musican girl that kissed someone on stage).

(PS the art with this pics shows her as a bald aftrican women with no visible ears, black eye brows and dark brown eyes)

Easy. Unmask her if she is the final love interest of Shepard and walks into sunset with him.
If not, the mask stays on.

And would you as one that unmasked her refrain from posting a pic of it here on BSN?

And would everybody else that did?

No?

Then please don't say that is the easy way out.

Yes show what the Quarians look like. It won't ruin her. Period. I'm getting a little tired of this argument over and over and over and over again, like her face is the only thing thats interesting about her or something. Its BW's game, what the quarians look like is totally up to them. You must be an incredibly shallow person if seeing what she actually looks like ruins her for you.

According to Casey Hudson theyve already made theyre decision about her face and we'll find out when released. In my opinion they should present a situation where the player gets to decide whther to see her face or not to please both sides of the argument.

If they have already made their decision then the polls could still be a 'Making sure were making the right choice' thing for the devs conscience'.

Not to derail anything but... I'm sorry, who?

KFD was someone who used to post a great deal on the forums roughly a year ago.
He was always polite and considerate, and his debates were well thought out and interesting to read.

Comparing you to KFD is one of the highest compliments I can pay to someone on this forum.

The gutsy thing to do would be to show her face. Much bigger chance of rampant discussion and complaints about it.

The safe thing to do would be to not show her face and use the old cop out "we thought we would let each person decide what their tali looks like."

There is a 3rd solution however. Don't show Talis face but show the faces of other quarians (a male and a female). This would then let BioWare use their artistic license to show what a quarian looks like without showing tali at this point in time. They could then gauge response and perhaps show her face in a dlc or something such as that.

Ask yourselves this:

Would you build a serious relationship with Tali even if for some reason she could *never* remove her suit. Ever?

If you answered yes, you don't need to see her face.

That assumes that everyone who wants to see Tali's face is a Talimancer.

My canon Shep romanced Liara in ME1, Miranda in ME2, and Liara again in LotSB. I'm just curious what the Quarians look like under the helm, and I think it would be a bit silly to go the whole series without finding out. After all every character in universe knows. Only the player is being kept in the dark out of fear of generating nerd rage from those that will inevitably be disappointed.

Yes that was directed at Talimancers.  I didn't romance her in any of my playthroughs.  Liara (from ME1), Jack and Thane were my choices.

Personally I don't see the connection with Harry Potter movies. It is a false connection. Not the same author, not the same media. Mass effect 3, it is bioware, Mass effect 3 it is a sequel, it  is the same designer, the quarians were thinking in a way by them, and wait to be deepen by the same.

JK Rowling is the author, like bioware is the creator of the Quarians , who has decided to create all the races of Mass Effect. The same spirit, the same creator.

In Harry Potter, the book, Voldemort has come to see again his appearance revealed after finding his body, Voldemort, was described in the book when he was a child. physically and with his personality. The same for Severus Rogue. The same for Harry Potter's dad.

Why J. K Rowlingwould she refuse to describe the greatest villain of his book when he was a child ? Because some prefer to have their imagination?

Some were disappointed because they would have preferred to believe that Voldemort has always been evil even as a child, some were angry because they didn't want to imagine that Rogue had reasons to hate the father of Harry, that he is finally human.

Some were disappointed that Harry has grown up and as a teenager can sometimes get excited, have flaws and not to be all the time the heroes.

Really ridiculous as well. Its the story, it is and it's like that.  If the mysteries have to be revealed for the sake of story, there is no reason to be offended.

I don't get the " mysterie ".
