If Bioware really loved Liara she would have been a squadmate in ME2, simple as that. If anything Bioware loves Garrus and Tali since not only are they squadmates in all the games, they where made Lis because of fan demand.

this

Not to mention the Garrus/Tali lithographs, t-shirts, etc.

Only hard part about not romancing Liara is when you're playing as Paragon.

You can be ninjamanced with her.

And if they made her a squaddie she would be in the exact same position as Garrus and Tali who as we now learn won't really be 'permanent' squaddies for the entire game as we thought before.

They are still squadmates in the game, which means they have been squadmates in all of the games, also put that with the lithos and t-shirts those two characters have got and Liara is Biowares fav character? Uh huh.

Really? So everyone will be like "Oh I'm here just for a couple of missions, you know..."?

I wouldn't even say that.  Someone posted an interview with Casey Husdon from last year and even it said that Liara isn't really a f/f romance.  Just because she looks like a human female does not make her one.  Asari are mono-gendered and Liara herself during ME1 when her and Kaidan both confront Shepard and forces her to choice tells Kaidan she isn't exactly a woman.

I do not remember which thread that the link was in and Casey did say Tali, but it was a transcript of the interview, so I think they mess it up and said Tali instead of Liara.

I'm not much of a Kaidan fan but I think he was spot on about Liara. Loved that he nearly calls Shep a lesbian then stops himself and I completely relate to his confusion when Liara says she isn't "exactly a woman" I too was thinking "but you look..."

Liara wouldn't consider a relationship with FemShep as a lesbian relationship but imo Shepard would. Reactions from Kaidan and Nef imply humans consider asari to be women.

For all we know, that statement could just mean that squadmates probably won't stick around if you make a decision that they majorly disapprove (or by other means.) They can still be considered a permanent squadmate. Wrex was a permanent squadmate until Virmire where he could possibly die, but if he lives, he remains a permanent squadmate.

Same could be said about Kaidan and Ashley as well.  Which is why Shepard gets confronted by Ashley/Kaidan and Liara if you used every paragon response.  When Liara asks about them, if Shepard says they're special.  It doens't stop Liara's romance.  Now you have two.  At least ME2, the paragon replies says something different.  Like "I want you to want me" or "I want you" type responses.

But if Liara was a actual squad mate in ME2, then she would of been able to die as well. It's obvious that bioware wanted her to be the next Shadow Broker and then a squad memeber in ME3.

You would rather have Shepard be in collector hands?  Or rebuilt by Cerberus.  She didn't betrayed Shepard, or I don't think so.  If anyone betrayed Shepard at that point it is the Alliance, they didn't even bother to recover Shepard's body.

Liara was right to recover Shepard's body - heroic, even - but things get more ambiguous after that.  And when I think of Kaidan (my Shep's LI) and Hannah Shepard mourning while Liara knew what really happened and could have relieved their suffering, I find it very hard to be objective.  I mean, on the one hand, Liara knew that Cerberus was an extremist organisation and, at least at the time (regardless of before), an enemy of the Alliance - so, if she did tell people, perhaps they would have attacked Cerberus to recover Shepard's body and Shep never would have been restored.  But that's relying on myself to provide a gloss/justification.  The story in-game never really deals with this issue at all.

Nah.

If she was in ME2 you'd be able to kill her.

Can't have that.

If Bioware really loved Liara they'd give her a consistent personality that wasn't focused purely on "SHEPARD! SHEPARD! SHEPARD!"

Are they doing it out of their pure love for these characters or maybe because these two happen to be the most popular ones so they're really just doing it to please the fans?

OP, Liara fans are supposed to be calm, collected, and less vocal about our opinions (like Liara), unlike the more boisterous fans of the other LIs.

Seriously, if someone doesn't like Liara, threads like this will not convince them. I for one am secure enough in my taste for women to NOT advocate it.

I cannot fathom romancing any other character, no matter how many times I played ME or ME2, Liara was there and always there on my desktop framed picture on every ME2 playthrough. Having said this, I now say this:

How does one "accidentally" romance someone? That's akin to me telling my wife that I accidentally had sex with another woman. "Honey, I am really sorry, what happened was, I tripped, fell on top of this girl and our clothes somehow slipped off, it was an accident".

As Squee put it "I did everything but beat her and she still loves me for some reason, I'll make sure to fix that later".

ME1 is pretty notorious for ninjamancing.  and Liara especialy was pretty bugged (including overriding Ashley/Kaidan romance), so, yes its possible to accidentaly romance a character in ME1 by simply being nice to them, especialy Liara.  unlike real life where you generaly get multiple options of saying no without trying to guess if a paraphase you are selecting is a correct one.

I think time will tell if other characters romances will be true or not. I mean, until LotSB, Liara and Ashley's romances with M!Shep both kind of end on a sour note. Liara cares more about revenge, and Ashley cares more about who you're working with. I think that if they made a DLC specifically about the virmire survivor, then you would have seen them being more viable options. As is, i think that Bioware will end up doing something special for the VS romance in ME3. Hopefully along the same likes as Liara.

Well when she asked if Ashley and I were a thing I said we were just friends because I didn't think it was her business and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. I was a softie back then.

Then she said we might have a thing and I said, uh... okay, because again I was a softie and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. I really didn't expect her to come on so strong, you know?

I didn't realize that I was choosing her in that conversation and then... things just kind of happened.

Don't worry, I'm a lot meaner now so that's never a problem.
