in the trailer we see shepard running up the arm of one of the reapers.  Does this suggest that we might be getting some type of quick time event thing for boss fights.  If so I think that would be awsome, I've always loved those events in any game.

*for those who do not know quick time events are those instances almost like a cut scene and a button appears on screen normally for boss fights and you need to hit the button in accordance with what appears, usually resulting in massive damage or ends to boss fights*

As a huge supporter of quick time events, I really hope so. I know people will b*tch about them and scream "God of War!" (or probably "Call of Duty!" since that appears to be the standard insult around these parts) I've always thought they help keep things feeling fresh so the combat doesn't feel as repetitive.

Like a "magic button"? Ugh! Please no! (clear sarcasm)

Seriously, while I do like them, I don't think QTEs are necessary for a game like ME. Plus, none existed in the first two games.

Also, if it's timed (and for most games, they are), it's easy to screw up.

ie: To rail the Reaper hit Y, but you must do so in a split-second or Shepard falls to his death.

I'm referencing WET Chapter 10. There are oodles of QTEs in that game. Do I like them? Not really. (Tap X a billion times to open door with sword) If implemented well, I'll work with it, but they aren't necessary.

I'd like some QTE along the same lines as the ones from Shenmue II, where (for the most part) the game would continue even if you missed the QTE--unlike in Resident Evil 4/5, where you HAD to take them.

What I dislike about QTEs is that I always end up so focused on the little flashing icon that I ignore the action that's happening on screen.

That would be one downside of having QTE's.

A MILLION TIMES NO.

QTE are just cheap and annoying.

I will never forgive CDPR for including QTE's in TW2 boss fights. Bioware, don't make the same mistake. QTE's are for laboratory chimps.

Whilst I have no strong feelings towards qte's in general, I really don't think they would fit in to me very well so i would rather not, just my opinion though

i'm not suggesting they should be available for every enemy or fight, i just think it would be cool to implement them for the bigger boss battles, and at the same time put enough time between the buttons to be able to watch what was going on.

For those who have played NinjaBlade they did it well there adn had some of the most intense quick time event kills i have ever witnessed

I don't hate QTEs with a passion but I've yet to see a developer manage to implement them in a natural, non-distracting way. Heavy Rain came closer than any others, but most of the time I was still like "phew, got all the prompts! Now wait, what the heck just happened?"

Personally, Shenmue (1 and 2) is the only game where I actually liked the use of QTE's. But other than that, not so much. You're right that they tend to feel a little off in most games that support them, which is why many people don't care for them.

There isn't a single gameplay mechanic that is more retarded. Press the awesome button and watch the mini-movie. All they do is take the player out of the action. I seriously cannot stand them.

QTE's are almost always a bad thing. They rarely add anything to gameplay and more often than not distract you from what is happening in game, focusing your eyes onto the flashing "Press X to not die" and the corner (or somethimes middle) of your screen. What is even more annoying is that 90% of the games QTEs occur in you get no warning they are about to happen (I'm looking at you, RE5)

Additionally QTEs having an effect other than instant death, resulting in a gameplay change are an awful idea too, I understand that they were in ME2 in the form of interrupts, but I do not what the outcomes of a story to be affected by my ability to "Press LT RIGHT NOW"

Paragon/Renegade interrupts are basically quicktime events.

Just sayin'.

And they aren't during combat. Thankfully.

This.  I much rather just sit-back and watch the action unfold in a cutscene.  It is sometimes nice to just take that break and put the controller down (one of the things I don't like about the para/rene interrupt system).

hmm guess everyone's going both ways here... again i will refer to ninjablade simply because i feel like they did it right. normally the QTE's were long and there were ALOT of them but the result wasnt death, wasnt even a problem. if you messed up a button or hit it to late then it simply reverted you back sometimes to the start of the QTE other times to the middle depending on how long it was.

i liked this way of doing it because it added a badass fight/cutscene but didnt make it so you could die or lose much if there was a button you hit incorrectly

Fail QTE -> sent back to start of cutscene.

Immersion broken.

The occasional QTE for minigames or such things like that are ok in moderation.

BUT, if your talking about having QTE's affecting combat in any way, shape or form...thats a big NO!

QTE's that affect combat in anyway are terrible and are no fun at all.

It always speaks for the quality of a game's cutscenes if they have to nag you with constant button presses just so you don't nod off.

QTEs are completely retarded, those interrupts being a point in case.

Deadspace 2 has excellent QTE's. Just saying.
