Fenris. If you treat him in a friendly manner but help mages he turns on you in the end, which feels like a betrayal to me after all the quests you do for him, all that comforting and protecting him from his former master... If that is not a betrayal than I don't know what is.
He only turns on you if his rivalry/friendship isn't high enough.

Fenris once. It was pretty cool when he KO'd my Hawke and LI!Merrill ran up and beat him to death with her staff.
That's a pretty awesome mental picture.
My first playthrough? No one left. Hawke was just too darn persuasive.

The dialogue for that made him running off for a bit worth it.

Because Sebastian can't betray you, you can betray him, it's as simple as that.GreyWarden36 wrote...
I'm suprised no one said Sebastian have you guys not forgotten if you chose not to kill Anders he says he'll raise an army and wage war on Kirkwall or you i cant remember, ungrateful a**hole after i've avenged his family and got him his grandfathers bow thats how he repays me?! what a tool!!!
And i suppose if someone blew up your home with your entire family and all your belongins inside you would just give the one responsible a handshake and a backpat?Huntress wrote...

Umm... no. Sebastian arguably betrays you MOST OF ALL. If you don't kill your companion in revenge, he threatens to TAKE AN ARMY AND LEVEL KIRKWALL TO THE GROUND. As in, destroy everyone and everything in revenge! After you spend a decade trying to save Kirkwall? To claim that's not betrayal is ridiculous. Period. He betrays you because he doesn't get the vengeance that he wants - even after Elthina's death, he doesn't honor her lesson to him about revenge and murder never being acceptable.
It's Sebastian's character. When it comes down to it, Sebastian is a killer, and he never realizes the lesson of mercy that Elthina was trying to teach him.

That is because Hawke and Sebastian's entire relationship is based on hawke learning Sebastian that killing need not be evil.Masako52 wrote...

On the friendship path Hawke teaches Sebastian that killing for the right cause is ok and that he just have to repend, that is his burden. As a rival Hawke teaches Sebastian that it is the ends that justify the means and that it need not be a burden at all.
When you don't ensure the danger Anders is, is dealt with he you basically go against everything Hawke is to him and Sebastian rightfully declares that he will do what is necessary to deal "with the mages"
We have discussed the first part before, and while i do agree that he overreacts given the situation i cannot call that a betrayal, otherwise Hawke would be asking Sebastian to betray everything he is.

On my second run Isabella was loyal but Fenris turned on me when I decided to side with the mages but changed his mind and joined me again shortly afterward.

This. I honestly got pissed off when I took the quest to talk to Leliana from the Grand Cleric and in the process got +25 friendship. I honestly look for ways just to ****** him off...but I also hate people blindly following religion. And people who whine too much.
I've not finished my first playthrough yet, but so far I've maxed everyone out except Fenris (probably at +75) Merrill (at +99 or something...) and Sebastion, who I can't seem to ****** off enough. Probably because I refuse to take him in my party because that might mean listening to him.
I don't get it though: in DAO and in ME1...no character did I hate. In DA2 and ME2...there are characters I loathe. In ME2, it's Jack who I want to engineer her death. In DA2, it's carver or sebastion...

At the climax of Act 3, Fenris turned on me. Later on in the quest I bump into him and a squad of Templars. So we ended up battling. "Fine by me." I thought, as I wasn't a fan of Fenris in my first playthrough. However, it was strange; he fell within a few seconds and then I just marched on as if he is a random mook. Felt like a bit of a cruel end for him, really.

The reason why youdislikehate those characters are probably because all the characters in DA2 are much more extreme than those in DA:O.
Huh?
No. I dislike them, and in part I get annoyed by DA2 because it keeps saying "DID YOU REMEMBER THAT THIS GAME IS ALL ABOUT MAGES AND HOW WE HATE THEM?" with people like Sebastion being one of the....most useless characters. But the whole idea of the chantry in the DA universe..well, in real life I find thinks like the catholic church uselss. And the Chantry just feels like that. I could go into it, but I'm truly not interested in a religious debate on these forums.
And Jack? She's just a crazy bi*(& full of nothing but vitriol.

We don't have to start a religious debate, i agree that it is useless, however i know alot of people who finds peace in religion and does so peacefully, the right to decide what you beleive in is something i fully support.RampantAndroid wrote...

And i don't think Sebastian directly spreads hate against mages at any point, he does suggest delivering Merrill and Anders to the templars to Fenris, but if he outrightly hated them he would just do it without discussing it. In reality i actually think that banter is more about Sebastian getting to know how far Fenris wants to go rather than actually doing it.
He agrees to what the circle officially stands for, control and safety. He argues that no one is ever free with ANders which i think is a bit naive, but he doesn't say that mages should be in the circle just to keep them, but to keep them safe from others and themselves.
The issue with the circle is that it is forced on the mages, a wise man once said "If you trade your freedom for safety you will loose both" and this is the case of the circle, something Sebastian does not recognize.
But disliking him because he dislikes mages in general is not possible for he does not.

You mean "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - Benjamin Franklin, 1759
As far as Sebastion, you get rivalry points generally for supporting mages, yes?

You get rivalry points for going against the chantry's laws mainly.
Going into the fade, dealing with demons yourself. And such.
He gets friendship points if you stand up against justice when he's about to kill Ella(i think her name is), if he really hated mages he wouldn't mind Anders killing Ella, that would provide one dead apostate and proof that Janders is insane(posessed).
