I think I'm the only one who doesn't overly like the new Kaidan. He doesn't look bad; but he certainly looks like he's aged about 10 - 12 years in the space of 5. He went from being 33 to easily passable as 45. Not strictly saying that's a bad thing, it's just.. odd.

And I swear he has grey side burns in all the pictures we're seeing. ¬_¬'

He looks hotter than ever  If anyone looks like aged 10 years it's Liara. ME3 is suppoused to be only like what 3-4 years after ME1 yet she went from babyface to almost Matriach Benezia level or appearance on her face lol

Having my female-canon Shepard romance choice being turned into someone that I look at and seriously do think 'kinda looks like my father'.. not a great selling point of the game.

Atleast, I'm hoping it's just the lighting of the screenshots. I can't work out if he does actually have greying hair or not. >.>

/agree.

Ashley wearing that while on the Normandy/whatever? Fine. No problem.

But going into combat wearing that? Not a chance in hell. It servse no purpose other than to make her "prettier".

All look great except liara's (glad it's an alternate appereance), about Ashley's outfit haters i just say I DON'T CARE cry whatever you want it changes nothing, maybe you'll get your heavy armor maybe not, it's unimportant, she will do her job and that's all i care, hell, im thinking about not letting her die in a new playthrough just so i can can have her as a squadmate here, and about vega, i only see whiners who can't take a NORMAL face and think everyone one should be pretty, well, there´s your inmersion

only people on this board could **** about alternate costumes - ALTERNATE costumes - included in a collectors edition. it's really kind of amazing.

The problem is that when Ashley's new outfit was revealed ("Earth" demo), people hoped that this is her casual look. To prove/discard this point, a picture of Kaidan in similar situation was needed. and what we see now? Fully armoured Kaidan... and Ashley in the almost same outfit. So there's almost no hope left that this may be her casual look, hence all storm

No, the "storm" is simply a result of people on this board having decided long ago that they know better than Bioware when it comes to what fits in their games and what doesn't. The raging, misplaced sense of entitlement is incredible. There's no "this is bad design," it's all "ASHLEY WOULDN'T WEAR THAT!" It's silly.

Don't get me wrong, I don't give Bioware a free pass - things like permanent helments in ME2 or exposed skin in space seem like awful design choices to me. That doesn't mean I'm going to start a protest group over a new character's haircut, or rant and rave about what this character would or wouldn't do. Maybe I'm the only one, but i haven't played ME3 yet, and so I don't know what is going on with any of these characters when we meet/reunite with them. It may sound crazy, but I'm going to wait and see what context is provided in the game for any and all design choices.

Oh, and again, these are ALTERNATE costumes. The very idea of "alternate" is to provide an option that is different from the standard one. Not only can there be an element of "what if?" to the looks, you also NEVER HAVE TO USE THEM if you don't want to. I understand being passionate and being a fan, but people need to take a step back and reevaluate things here.

You are missing on big point. The reason people are saying "Ashley wouldn't wear that" is because she says as much herself. Her and Kaidan have conversation about Asari Commandos in ME1. Kaidan says how agile they are in light armor and Ashley says she'd take solid armor and big gun anyday. People aren't assuming Ashley prefers armor they are going by her expressed opinion.

Vega's is okay.  It's not pretty, but he looks like he's ready to go save the galaxy

Kaidan's is the best by a long shot.  Looks good and looks functional.

Liara's looks like what Samara's original outfit should have been.  It's not bad.  Just not a good look for Liara.  And not very original

Ashley's is...No.  Just...No.  Ash in a rough-and-tumble marine with solid armor and big guns.  She is not an officer on the Enterprise.  Take Kaidan's armor, reshape it for Ash's frame, and you're good to go.

I actually like all the outfits. Only nitpick I think is that they should put more plating on Ashley's outfit. At least on the chest, torso, and thighs. I like the design but it just looks too light for a frontline soldier. Also happy they went back to white and red on her. Looks much better on her than the blue suit.
And I don't think we'll have need for a Krogan in the party seeing as Vega looks like a half-Human half-Krogan brick ****house.

I'm a heterosexual male in the target age demographic and I don't like being patronized by video games.

Miranda's outfit and cinematography boils down to "LOOK AT THAT!  ARE YOU HARD YET?  HOW ABOUT NOW?"  Worrying that the presentation of Ashley will mimic that approach is perfectly legitimate.

Yes and no.

Miranda having the outfit she wears makes perfect sense given her character, although admittedly taken to an extreme. The cinematography is where the real blame lies for me, as it unnecessarily drew attention to it repeatedly when the point had already been made several times previously.

The ME franchise has never tried too hard to be highbrow stuff either, it's always drawn from the whole range of sci fi sources available. Be it more realistic or OTT space opera. This is reflected in artistic choices such as the outfits I feel, and could easily accept Miranda being a character who would choose to wear the 'Barbarella' outfit day to day.

However this brings me to another criticism of this decision, the lack of true alternative outfits for characters. This would never have been an issue in, say, ME1 because anyone who didn't like it would have just changed her armor for combat situations. Now I don't mind the fixed outfits BioWare favour nowdays, but I think for it to prove popular with the widest range of players the alternate outfits given to each companion should be suitably, well, different.

Now Ashley's new look is nowhere near as OTT as Miranda's was, thankfully (the skintight catsuits just would not suit her characters at all). Instead they have simply given her lighter armor to wear. Not a decision ever going to be popular across the board, but again not one that isn't reconcilable in game - especially given her new career.

However as I said previously this once again would greatly benefit from them actually making use of the alternative outfit slot to give her a 'heavy' armor option. It would please everyone and make complete sense for her character! Ash is a Spectre now, that means her duties may require her to wear lighter armor and such on occasion, fair enough. However she always struck me as a very 'complete' soldier, and to me it would fit perfectly for her to switch between armor styles depending on the situation.

This has all become very roundabout, and frankly I don't agree with the matt-bassist's post either so I'm not even sure why I have gone to the effort. :P Women get portrayed for sex appeal first in games far too often. But it frustrates me that in the case of Miranda and Ash we really should be able to have our cake and eat it too. Or rather the marketing team should be able to. So long as the cinematography team(and by extension gameplay elements like giving them proper outfits in space, something they seem to have taken on board) at least tries to avoid pandering to the male gaze, and if BioWare took the extra time to adapt a heavy armor model to fit Ashley's (etc.) frame then would it really matter that she was wearing light armor when you meet her for the first time?

Seriously now, Vega looks better In Kaidan's outfit. If they're gonna make him a garrus / Kaidan hybrid with the hair and the scope, might as well make the colours match, yes?

Personally disappointed with where they're taking Ashley, what happened to the frontier soldier? The pheonix armour was pink, but at least it was armour.

As a non-ragey sidenote, I do find it amusing that the reflections of Kaidan and Ashley in the "floor" are clearly of their normal-coloured, blue outfits.

I thought it made very little sense given her character to wear it all the time.  She certainly isn't above using her looks to get what she wants, but she also expresses the fact she's essentially ashamed of it and her "gifts" are a constant reminder of her cruelly selfish father.

That said, there are elements of your post I definitely agree with such as the game really missing true alternative or casual outfits.
