On that note: why is everyone complaining saying well Kaiden is wearing heavy armor, that makes no sense he's a biotic! When actually Kaiden is wearing medium armor, which does make sense for a Biotic, especially since you have Shep and Vasir off the top of my head as biotics with Medium armor...
Kaidan is a Sentinel. It makes sense that he's well-armored, because Sentinels are the tanks.
If we go off me1's combat system then the criticism fits. Unfortunately me1 is irrelevant combat wise, so we have to go by me2's system where sentinels are....... you guessed it tanks! Even more so then Soldier Shep, especially when you factor in that tanks aren't supposed to be high dps machines in rpg's.

6 if we count Shepard who as of ME2 can only wear medium/heavy armour.
The Asari was wearing more armour than Ashley. THE ASARI!

Sentinels aren't the tanks, that's not their definition in M1 in any case.Kaidan is a Sentinel. It makes sense that he's well-armored, because Sentinels are the tanks.
A sentinel is especially someone Polivalente. Able to use technology and biotic powers. His defense is in the shields ( so no need heavy armor ) , while his effectiveness ( biotics ) is in the lightness and movement.

Why is everyone complaining about Ashley when Vega looks like a Gears of War character?
Cause Gears of War is awesome
I never said that Gears of War was a bad series, but the characters are stylized in a way that would not fit very well into any other game (like Mass Effect, because it's another game get it?). His upper body looks comical.
While I agree that Ashley's armor might be overdoing it a bit, I could make that same argument for Vega and even Kaidan. Heavy combat armor sacrifices a lot of mobility for minimal protection, carrying around what Vega is wearing might make him look more "badass" but it won't make him any less dead. It would be a different story if we were fighting with swords that damaged foe with slashing, cutting, breaking, but we're not. We're dealing with high velocity military ammunition that armor rarely protects from anyways. To be fair though, Kaidan's armor actually looks very practical when compared to the others in the SS (not including Liara). Liara's outfit is great in a pardoy sort of way.

Why can't Ashley just wear a re-skin of Tela Vasir's outfit?
That's reasonable, Tela Vasir was a god damn Vanguard yet she has more armor than a soldier. Miranda and Samara were light classes so it made sense to have skimpy outfits if you squint your eyes at it, but Ashley is meant to be a tank and she's wearing high heels and a skirt into battle.

Well for Miranda I don't see her as the front lines type of person, some armor for missions would be nice though.

In what way does Ashley's "armor" resemble Kasumi's attire?
Level of protectiveness.
Not sure if serious.
In other words, it's great as long as the enemy doesn't actually see her
Which they won't because I'm done taking people into a combat situation without armor.

Oh it's so sad that you think that's the same thing.
It's sad that you think the burden of proof isn't on you with your from-thin-air rationalization.
If it looks like sexy armor, it probably is sexy armor, for the purpose of being sexy armor.
It's not "She's a Spectre now so she needs to tart it up while she's carrying her assault rifle!"
Just like the burden of proof would be on me to demonstrate that I am a space alien. Because I'm pretty obviously a generic white guy.
Regarding 'tarting it up.' Just because you say that's what she's doing does not make it so.
Regarding 'she's a Spectre so now she might be wearing light armor rather than heavy armor.' I find quite plausible. Certainly not as outlandish as you being an alien.

You're right. He shouldn't be saying that Ashley's tarting it up. Ashley wouldn't do that. Bioware is tarting her up.

Unless your argument is that all of the things I listed as being part of her outfit are not intended to be sexy, it actually does make it so.

I was responding to one of the many absurd rationalizations, specifically the one that Ashley is deliberately dressing sexy so she can use her looks in "black ops Spectre operations."
My position is that BioWare are the ones doing it.

Cleavage + armor = tarting it up.

Sure, he's not the best looking guy you'll see, but he's not hideous. And really, what's the big deal about his hair? It looks like a typical military cut to me and it's probably the best match for his his bulky head and face.

Ashley... Ashley looks like a field medic (or a nurse) not a Soldier. I dunno perhaps this is the case in ME3. But I always thought Ashley was mostly inspired by such characters such as Pvt. Vasquez...
http://3.bp.blogspot...eGoldstein.jpg]
At least I hope you guys could give Ashley a chain gun or something to compensate. Look I will admit Ashley has been around partially as some sort of sex appeal from the start. I mean her medium pink & white Phoenix armor was fairly "girly". Although honestly I thought it was pretty tacky back then. Everytime I see this Ashley incarnation I'm honestly not sure if I'm looking at a new Miranda. Look Bioware if you want to appeal to adoloscent males more then anything else be my guest. You'll probably convince more then a few drooling guys to get the game as an action fix. Then again at the same time your just furthering the stigma many women have against video games for showing off their physique more then anything else.
That or guess male Shepard finally bought Ashley dinner.
Personally it seems like you guys switched Kaidan's and Ashley's roles as "Caster" and "Tank".
Anyways...
James looks a little odd. Dunno how else to put it. Seems a bit over-macho I guess? Although I wonder if part of this is to make him appealing as well... you know.
My only problem is he seriously looks he just got done playing Gears of War. He bares a rather uncanny resemblance to the COGs.

I dunno I really get the feeling the ME2 and ME3 Dev team are real big fanboys of Gears of War or something. Although I wish you guys would take a clue from them and give women the same amount of armor as the men.

Liara is alright being an Adept. (Honestly she seems to be wearing better armor then Ashley.) Though that color scheme is just kind of... well off. Seems overly dark for her character as well. I dunno just looks weird to me. Although that is very much just my opinion.
I hope again this is just early concept work on your guy's part. And I sincerely hope Ashley will have something that actually resembles armor in ME3.

Do you not see the difference between what Ashely is depicted as wearing in that shot and what Kasumi wears? Kasumi, despite the hood and apart from Tali, is better protected than EVERY female squadmember in ME2.

They could just as well be there because they wanted to give her a more 'uniformed' rather than 'armored' look. That's the sense I get out of it. Some people find uniforms sexy but that doesn't mean that's the intent.

The sole modern purpose of garters is sex appeal. That they don't titillate you personally doesn't really negate the fact that she is wearing what is effectively fetish gear.Filament wrote...
It doesn't though. Nor would I venture to say in this specific purpose they're there for the sake of giving guys hard-ons.

Tali as well. None of them are wearing armor that strikes me as capable of stopping a bullet.
