I raged a little.
Sarcasm, notice the quotes.
Ooops... I missed that.
It's all good. I like the armour although I think it contradicts the game lore. I've been playing devil's advocate and quite honestly all it's proved is people are more upset with game lore violation--which is heartening. <3

Vega and Liara's looks are bearable, but a little too Gears of War and Samara-esque respectively for my liking. Kaidan has definitely come through the re-design the best.

Honestly, I would probably be giving Ash's outfit more of a "benefit of the doubt" if Kaidan was ALSO wearing a catsuit. But Kaidan is armored up like he's expecting a real fight, and his specialization in ME1 made him unable to wear all but light armor. So why is Kaidan wearing medium armor, and Ashley—who could wear heavy armor in ME1—wearing what looks to be a civilian outfit?
It's been 3 years... People change and quite honestly people need to let it go. Everyone's gonna cry till the day the game comes out then play the game and shut the hell up. That's BSN for you.
You think people are going to shut the hell up after the game comes out? Are you new here?
No, just wish people would. Too many feelings and ticks in the game that people complain about. Nobody's a big picture person anymore...<_<
Here's some big picture for you:
Ashley's new look was designed to pull in new fans. It's obvious. They "sexed her up" so that people who are unfamiliar with the game will be intrigued by her appearance in the Marketing materials. And that's ALL. They did not attempt to stay true to the Ashley that we all know, the Ashley that many of us have great affection for. No, all of that went out the window so that Marketing could try to pull in some horndog teenage males. And that's why James Vega looks like he was designed by a focus group of 12-year-olds. Seriously, we're adults here, and even MEN are saying that this very sexy outfit is just not appropriate for Ashley. It's a legitimate criticism. Ashley is a no-nonsense gal, who has a very defined personality. You can't just give her a Marketing makeover and expect the fanbase to shrug their shoulders and not comment. We feel like we know these characters, and Ashley's new look seems to fly in the face of what we know about her. Now, maybe the solution is a reeeeeally good explanation regarding her choice of attire, but hopefully we'll at least have the OPTION of giving Ashley an appropriately armored appearance for combat encounters.
And if this same outfit was on Miranda, I'd be saying "Miranda would be showing more skin that THAT, and she'd never stand so demurely." It's all about the character.

Maybe if you don't take character design seriously. They wouldn't have put those things there if the outfit wasn't intended to inspire sex appeal. The problem people have with it isn't that its too sexy or obscene, just that it's too sexy at the expense of utility for a character like Ashley.
Personally, I don't find it sexy..... at all. Now, my femshep in her battle armor and Cerberus officer uniform is sexy.

Huh.
Some men can't either. Jacob was wearing a catsuit.
SOME being the key there. Jacob is the only human male who wears a catsuit. Thane is the only male alien who wears a catsuit. (and frankly it makes no sense with Jacob either and is as facepalm inducing as Miranda's.)

It's intended to be. That an individual user might not see it that way doesn't change that.

The Ash I knew explicitly professed a preference for "Nice Solid Armor." If she genuinely wanted to wear something like this into a combat situation, then good on her.
I'm asking about the other characters and why they don't have super light armor that is apparently better than the "Nice Solid Armor" that they're all wearing.

And the **** is your problem? Catwoman was a character DESINGED with a catsuit. There's not a single Batman comic, film or even a kids cartoon where she would be dressed in something else, not to mention Rocksteady's desing is based off the comics series.
Not to mention Arkham Asylum was a higher standard both in desing and gameplay compared to Mass Effect 2.

Definitely detracts from the argument that it's just lighter armor, which is a shame because I liked that argument. It all seems very silly however, just unnecessarily so. It's so close to being perfectly okay, it doesn't jump right over the cliff of needless 'hawtness' but it sort of stands there looking like it's going to jump which causes observers to ring the ambulance. It's not needed.
They could capture the same 'sexy agent/soldier' look without that in my opinion, and it's what I have been arguing in favour of in Ash's case. A light armor that looked appealing enough, and perhaps just pushed the sci fi sex appeal a little, but whilst retaining combat usefulness - albeit not the heavy style she has previously worn.
Instead it's just a little too overboard, and ends up looking a bit like they got caught in between catering to both those that want pure sex appeal and those that want to respect Ash's character. As I tried to clumsily explain with the whole cliff thing earlier /ramble.
The end result is at first appealing (to me), but then somewhat confusing before settling on frustrating (again, for me). Things like the zip down her front, the boots, the 'garters' that connect her battle suit together, the 'mini skirt' effect, and even the exposed neck - they are just frustrating because really there shouldn't be anything wrong with the design. All those things sort of make sense from a 'secret agent' outfit perspective. But added all together it just seems too much and doesn't quite work for me anymore. Nothing wrong with long boots, nothing wrong with a top of that style (is Link wearing a mini skirt?), nothing wrong with having something that joins the pieces together, nothing wrong with having to unzip the oufit down the front, not even anything wrong with it not being sealed if it gets sealed in space. And yet somehow it feels wrong.
Okay I'm not even sure what I'm saying anymore, so I wipe my hands of discussing outfits! Going to go back to discussing Vega's hair like any sane person should.
But I stand by my statement that they should all be wearing catsuits.

And where in that quote did I say no men wore catsuits?
I said no female squaddies wore full armor. None of them do. They did in ME1 but that's apparently retconned out of existance since Kaian is somehow able to put on heavy armor.
