The Ash I knew explicitly professed a preference for "Nice Solid Armor."  If she genuinely wanted to wear something like this into a combat situation, then good on her.

I'm asking about the other characters and why they don't have super light armor that is apparently better than the "Nice Solid Armor" that they're all wearing.

Maybe the reason they don't  is because they don't want to?

Why wouldn't they want to if it offers better protection?  What kind of idiots are they that they don't want to survive in combat regardless of how they look?

Well that makes sense. Women can't wear armor unless they're a cyborg (FemShep) or a bad person.

Huh.

Some men can't either. Jacob was wearing a catsuit.

SOME being the key there. Jacob is the only human male who wears a catsuit. Thane is the only male alien who wears a catsuit. (and frankly it makes no sense with Jacob either and is as facepalm inducing as Miranda's.)

The fact that there is men who wear catsuits in ME shows that it's not only women.

But it's only male characters designated as LIs. And I don't have a problem with Jacob's catsuit, or Miranda's. I get the impression that the person who designed them was Miranda, and that she's the one who's making Jacob wear his. Who knows what the properties are of that bathroom tile fabric are? Maybe it's the latest in combat technology for the body-conscious soldier. Both Miranda and Jacob are proud of their bodies, after all. But Ashley wasn't that girl in ME1, and if she is now, well, I'd like to know why.

I wonder if she goes to church dressed like that.

I honestly won't be surprised if she is no longer religious in ME3.
Because who cares about consistent characterization, right?

Women go to Church in skirts and high heels all the time. In fact, it's quite common.

And where in that quote did I say no men wore catsuits?

I said no female squaddies wore full armor. None of them do. They did in ME1 but that's apparently retconned out of existance since Kaian is somehow able to put on heavy armor.

Tali kinda wears armor.

Also, why does Vega look like a retard? You know... that big, fat kid who used to pick on everyone in grade school.

I'm not sure, but oddly it's one of the thing that I am beginning to find incredibly endearing about his character.

...I think I have decided I am going to love Mr Vega, no matter how hard the game tries to make me not.; even if he only speaks in grunts and whistles.

Scratch that. Especially if he only speaks in grunts and whistles.

Tali wears a env-suit, actualy her ME2 redesing is the most loreconsistent to ME1 as she was wearing the same thing just with a diffrently set up hood.

Quarians wearing envsuits unprotected with ceramic plates never made sense but we can't pick on that - it was already stupid in the first game.

And the **** is your problem? Catwoman was a character DESINGED with a catsuit. There's not a single Batman comic, film or even a kids cartoon where she would be dressed in something else, not to mention Rocksteady's desing is based off the comics series.

Not to mention Arkham Asylum was a higher standard both in desing and gameplay compared to Mass Effect 2.

Wait till Nolan dresses her. ;) She won't be baring cleavage all the way to her sternum.

And AA does not represent better character design. It's different, it's good, it's also less realistic, bordering on silly now that I've seen the new game.

It's not armor it's an enviro suit. But I let it slide because it's been that way from the first game and most importantly it makes sense. She can't afford to have armor on (she could use a little plating but whatever). That suit is for her day to day not just for firefights. The suit being skintight is a bit meh but again it's been like that from day one and she's not exposing vital organs anymore than necesary, she also doesn't say she has a preference for heavy solid armor.

Please. Your constant worship of the character's decisions as if she were real and free-thinking on her own is a weak deflection from the fact that she's been made this way by a team of 99% sexist males catering to other sexist males even at the cost of undermining this formerly strong female character. Denying that there's exploitation against women here. It's convenient for you to make excuses for their misogyny because, to paraphrase, you've actually said this Ashley doesn't qualify as "sexy enough."

Ok Kaiden still looks annoying and no magic will cure that.

Ash's outfit is ridiculous! A space skirt! WTF she's a soldier she's more soldiers then shep is! She's as soldier as Wrex is! That skirt looks horrible on her she wouldn't be caught dead in a skirt much less a mini one and the color, pattern, style is horrible on her! Was she reading Miranda's fashion guide on how to look like a go go dancer in space? That thing better not double as her space suit too that would be even worse!

I like that Samara has finally covered up I really didn't like the low neckline in 2.

And Vega looks bad I can't decide on if it's his face or it's his outfit.

Yet our Shepards whether male or female and regardless of class and specialization must dress like tanks and can't wear catsuits because they want to.

I'm not saying character desing. AA had superior level desing and overall climate, to me at least... and well superhero productions rarely go the realistic way.

So because they give her an attracive appearance, they are sexist? That's dumb.

Vega clearly exist for Marketing reasons as well.

"Hey little boy! Yeah you! You've never played a Mass Effect™ game before, but here's James Vega™—and this guy is just like you! He's muscular to the point of immobility, he's got Douche Face™, and he's got a hairstyle only a pre-teen would think was cool. So come along, little guy, and play Mass Effect 3™, now available on XBox 360™, PlayStation 3™, and PC!"

"And hey little boy, just in case you've already hit puberty, here's Ashley™, a sexy minx who helps Commander Shepard™ defeat the bad guys! And if you're a really good little boy, we'll show you Tali™, whose hips will induce puberty if it hasn't happened to you already."

Yes, BioWare, you're that transparent sometimes.

I'd say they contradicted many things about her character to give her an attractive appearance and that could be considered as sexist without being dumb.

That's actually Liara, suprise suprise.

I think this whole situation just goes to show that Bioware can't do a single thing without hundreds of fans attempting to smash down their door to fix it.

It's an alternative outfit people! You don't need to use it! If you don't like it, don't use it!

Maybe they could keep the sexual or sensual aspects limited to when characters interact romantically... ie: f*ck, and then the rest of the time they're equipped like actual soldiers.

Then it all makes sense. :wizard:

Problem being that since the "alternative" outifts are little more than color palette swaps and minor texture changes from their normal outfits, what you see is likely what you'll get.

Between this stuff and DA2's Hot Rod Samurai redesign, I don't know what the hell is going on in BioWare's art department.
