EDIT: (Note: I'm no way advocating that Vega -needs- his face changed, this was just for fun. I don't mind him not being supermodel attractive or whatever.)

Pretty good, now he doesn't look like such a meat-head anymore.

Ugh, I'll bet. I read a feminist bashing of that film...pretty much confirmed every exploitative detail one might deconstruct from its posters alone.

Reserve my judgement till I see him without the visor and in some normal outfit. This armor is gigantic itself and makes him look even bigger

I don't care that Vega's not supermodel attractive or w/e... Hell, he might even become friends with my Shep at some point... (still contemplating the airlock option, cos I can that's why) doesn't mean I can't make fun of him a little for being a complete and total derp face.

Everybody in the game has a little 'derp face' in them that comes out at the most random times. :P

@88mphSlayer: You forgot Rocky Buck Brock Brickhouse.

I feel like I fail at feminism... I find nothing particularly wrong with the outfit.

I just think the outfit is wrong for Ashley...

I don't know, I kinda like the meat head look. From what we know of him, it may very well suit his character. Just looking at the pic, I take it that he's the human equivalant of a krogan beserker. An absolute monster on the battlefield just doesn't go well with a boyish face.

Yes it is... Don't try to sound smarter then you are. To pander to male gaze is why it's done and is why women in video games are thought this way in the first place.

 Okay? Nice civil discussion we're having here... no, I don't think putting her into a stereotyped role is within the scope of what I was saying. I was addressing the aesthetics of the outfit. I haven't put much thought into what you're saying.

The aesthetics of her outfit is directly related to her stereotyped role. Hello. You address one thing that is like 10% of the actual issue of this thread and totally ignore what's actually goign on. Good night.

Any complaint can be given the whine label.  It's incredibly easy to do if you're not going to look at the merits of the complaint.  And why would anyone do so if they already disagree with the complaint?

It's a smokescreen tactic to get others to devalue the argument or concern put forth.  Nothing more and the proof is there by admitting that shrieking sounds better than complaining.

No, it is whining when you complain about a concept of the outfit which made Hudson promise for an armour in the first place.

These forums have been going from bad to worse during the past week.

I think that sums up how I feel. It's perfectly fine as an outfit, just not for her.

Has nothing to do with feminism.

The bolded part is the problem. Mega plate is also wrong for Kaidan. :/
Anyhoo wishing for some real concept design for the armor option some time, eventually. :innocent:

We don't even know what her role is at this point. As far as we know she's still a soldier. I had a theory that she might be an infiltrator since becoming Spectre but that's just speculation.

This is what James Vega should look like. If you're going to rip off a character from another game, rip off a HOT one:

Even if she's an infiltrator that is no excuse to wear wedge heels.

Many people like Ashley's new look. I may not, but I wouldn't want to rob others of their enjoyment at my expense.

Isn't pleasing both sides without needlessly catering to one party preferable to telling one group to screw off?

This image isn't a drawing. This outfit is already rendered and textured. There's no need to ask them to keep it, there is no way they'll get rid of it this late in its development and after already showing it at E3. We don't have to show support for people who like the go-go dress, they're going to get it in-game regardless.

Exactly. But by offering a positive comment Bioware employees are more likely to continue reading a post (aka our desired feedback for a proper Ashley) than one that is nothing but constant bickering. Afterall, wouldn't you dismiss a review that was overly harsh without offering criticism? We don't have to worship their new design, but we shouldn't completely dismiss Bioware's original concept.

Plus, I am not singling anybody out - this is directed at the forums in general.

The burden is not on us to "behave." The burden is on BioWare to own up to their BS and to fix it. They'll never own up to anything of course, and us "playing nice" in the past only earned us their continual silence about their own misogyny and homophobia in the ME series.

They probably won't even fix this. Better that we vent honestly instead of cowering in some fear of "offending" them. As if they weren't the ones who offended us in the first place.

That is what's wrong with it. The issue comes in because of the dichotomy between the outfit and the character, as well as the contrast between what she is wearing and what her male counterparts are wearing.

I'm not a raging feminist by any means, it just irks me when men don't see OBVIOUS signs of gender disparity like this. And like you, I don't have a problem with the outfit itself, either for another character, or for Ashley's "aboard ship" gear. It's just not going to be realistic to have Ashley wear something like this once the bullets start flying. Not the Ashley I think I know, anyway.

There's nothing wrong with the outfit itself.  There is, however, something wrong with the outfit in context with who's wearing it, her history, and those around her who may not fit the same role she does but have similar roles.  In a group of soldiers you don't have everyone in regulation fatigues and put one person in that bunch in a leotard.

While I agree with you for the most part, I don't think what she is wearing is acceptable combat attire for anyone. Miranda's "uniform" was the reason I barely ever let her off of the ship until her DLC armor came out.

lol. Miranda, Samara, and Ashley's catsuits are right up Capcom's alley.

If Bioware is emulating them then we're in serious trouble.

Capcom is an incredibly cheap company.

BioWare needs to find out who created the digital models for Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar—and kidnap them.

Not the whole team, just the character modelers. :D
