I honestly think you people crying bloody vengeance over Ash's outfit should sit back and calm down. We still don't know if that's her only outfit/reskin, so perhaps we should wait and see, then freak out?
Please. The blue-version of this catsuit is her default appearance, which BioWare made sure all their dudebros and wannabes could see during E3.
This trash is going to be a female Marine grunt's default appearance. Meanwhile, the heavy mech armor is going to be Marine sentinel Kaidan's default appearance. Logic fail, unless you're on BioWare's team or a wannabe for BioWare's team, both deying the existence of blatant sexism and misogyny in the presentation thus far.Or just take your torches and pitchforks, set course for Bioware HQ and be done with it if that's what you really want.
Doing it here is better.
We don't have to back up our protests in the least. BioWare is the one that needs to defend itself for this BS.
Seriously... as a woman I have no problem with the outfit in general... it's the character that's it's on that bothers me. While I admit it is probably for titilation, I really don't think the purpose behind it is to tear women down. I've had problems with bioware's portrayal of women before, but, this isn't one of them and I'm not entirely sure why you're being so passionate about it.
So, you're saying that just because BioWare isn't necessarily on a mission to undermine the women's movement then that means somehow BioWare is definitely above undermining women?
I usually don't save Ashley on Virmire. Surprise! It's because my MShepard is in love with Kaidan. So I'm going to address the whole "why is Eromenos even bothering with this" angle. Remember how Miranda, Samara, and Jack were all presented in ME2? It was a sad, low-brow departure from ME1. These Charlie's Angels outfits were not presented to be affirming towards women. Women can enjoy them, but be sure these are always put out there for dudebros first. Women are only allowed to come along for the ride in the devs and dudebros' eyes, and they particularly love the females who avoid deconstructing or criticizing the exploitation in these situations.
I'm with you in the sense that I find it even more ridiculous that BioWare would think to get away with this on the Ashley character, of all things. Given their history with ME2, this BS is a very likely symptom for widespread exploitation of many more, if not all, female characters slated for ME3.
Seriously here, I’m rather not being passionate enough or your being too passionate. I’m starting to worry that perhaps my “Bisexual is showing” and I’m somehow undermining women simply because I don’t throw a hissy fit whenever something pretty sashay’s onto the screen. Some people want to look good, other’s don’t care… Ashley always fell somewhere in the middle ground for me. She wasn’t going to sacrafice the part of her that was the soldier too show off some TnA. She does and I have a problem with it, I would rather lump into screwing with a characters personality instead of outright screaming “EXPLOITATION!”
Miranda is wearing sexy clothing, but, Thane and Jacob also sport body hugging outfits meant to accentuate their masculinity. I don’t really see you getting up in arms about it though, Jacob’s make relatively little sense considering the fact that has rather high defense value all things considered. And Jack, the girl is loaded head to toe in tattoos and she’s proud of them so she shows them off. I know, I know that’s just exploitation but it fits with her persona.
Also don’t ****ing insult me by saying that I’m just being complacent. I tend to save my ****ing for what bothers me… like Man shep’s gender exclusive content always being about how bad ass he is and having women swoon at his every step while Femmeshep has to put up with dirty old men, people questioning her abilities, and my favorite is the transformation of every female on a ship into mewling sex toys. Feminism isn’t just about ****ing ragging on a girl wearing sexy things.
Seriously the suit sucks on Ashley but it’d fit on any light armor wearing female, there I said it. I must be a horrible ****ing woman.
