Will ME3 be more dark, hopeless and dramatic than the action packed trailer?

So, i saw Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon 2nd July in 3D. And god... What an action movie! Best effects i have ever seen, i really love the interaction between reallife and computer generated things. I think i will not have to watch any other action movie this year.

So in the movie the Decepticons (evil robots) invade Chicago/Earth and everything explodes, cars fly everywhere, buildings collapse etcera etcetera.

And in the ME3 trailer it was like "We fight or we die! That's the plan!", "Oh boy! The Reapers have arrived! Let's kick some ass!".

I really want more darker theme with more drama and hopelessnes(?) when the Reapers come crashing down on our buildings and starts destroying everything in their wake.

I really hope there will be awesome effects like buildings collapsing and people getting killed off in the hundreds. Really dark and.... yeah, you get the idea.

Do you think at the beginning of the game, when Shepard are at the trial, it will be like 10 minute Earth gameplay on foot? Because that E3 demo was like 5-10 minutes long and then Shepard reached the Normandy. I really would love to see more "walking around" under the Reapers feet as they destroy everything.

But the beginning acts like a interlude/intro(?) like in ME2 where Shepard was on the Normandy and blown into space.

Do you guys want it more dark, dramatic and hopeless? Like The Dark Knight was for Batman Begins.

Well given what we saw at E3 I think the begining levels escaping earth are right up your alley.

But given the scope of the game i'm sure there will be plenty of dark/bleak moments in the game.... after all war isn't Always about explosions and butt kicking.

I saw a lot of similar parallels in both T3 and ME3. The whole there's no hope theme/all hope is lost, Odds being against you big time, trying to save the earth or galaxy in ME's case, etc. I bet they will be very similar in the sense that there is always a solution/answer no matter what the case may be and to never lose track of who you really are.

There will probably be plenty of drama to be found in ME3. I consider it highly unlikely every member of your team survives. Some, like Captain Andersson, are probably going out with a bang (I expect) while others will meet their end in a more dramatic and less heroic way. Plenty of drama to be found there.

As for people getting killed off in the hundreds? I think you're in luck because the reapers are killing people by the millions. We also (fortunately) didn't see the last part of the trial where Shepard supposedly figured the reapers were there and started running/blasting (probably both) so I'd imagine the earth part of ME3 will be a bit longer than that.

I also think the first part on earth will play out more like ME1's Eden Prime and ME2's Cerberus Station + Freedom's Progress. EG some sort of tutorial mission. I expect ME3's tutorial mission to be roughly as long as Eden Prime.

Thanks for your answers. I think Casey said somewhere that the game will be more dark and dramatic but still have some fun/humor in it. That's okey i think. I really hope they gonna make this really dramatic and filled with emotion.

Not just like Duke Nukem where he says oneliners and thinks he is invincible. You know.

I read somewhere about a journalist "crying" over the boy at the Earth demo. Well, that's a good sign.

Halo Reach did it good with fighting a lossing battle so yeah but still there should at least be a very small light going through the small dark atmosphere

I agree. The tone of that campaign was amazing, and it really bugs me that a lot of people miss that.

One of the best things about it was the quiet moments in between the action. It helped give a sense of hopeless defiance and futility to the whole thing. Fighting isn't worth anything unless you know what you're fighting for. What I'm concerned about is that ME3 is marketed as an out-and-out action game. Granted, this may be the point of E3, to be as bombastic as possible, but I really hope it isn't a general sense of the game. That trailer with the obnoxious rock music and the omni-blade graphics dashed my hopes a little, because, to me, it isn't what the ME universe is about.

Am I making sense to anyone here? I'm having a hard time putting this into words.

New ME will be about traveling to planets and gathering new squad members. Along with squadmates you will get allies. Then whole fleet will attack reapers fleet. There will be massive battle at the end where you will have something like a reaper CORE.
Small normady with Shepard on board will invade this core and destroy it saving the world.

It will be nothing new. You saw it in KOTOR 1, you saw it in ME 1. Save this post and check next year if I'm right. It will not be more dark. It will be the same.

I so hope that I'm wrong...

This is kind of what I mean.

Halo: Reach was good in that it wasn't about the actual victory, it was about fighting to the last despite the odds and saving as many people as possible. Carrying the torch, as it were. ME3 may well be about pushing some some unlikely and plot-hole-ridden win-button, with no real sense of a wider conflict or the hopelessness of said conflict, or more generally, the cost of a wide-scale and losing war.

I hope I'm wrong, but I've been disappointed before.

Bear in mind the whole point of an E3 trailer is to be loud and in your face so the journalists there get excited by it and are more likely to write about it. Also, the only footage they had for the trailer was from the demos, and they were geared around showing off the new combat as many of the 'RPG features' are still in flux, and generally it is the combat that lets them down in reviews.

All the interviews about ME3 have been talking about a galactic scale war and sacrifice. I think this is going to be a very dark game.

They said a long time ago ME3 will mix a dark atmosphere with some light humour.

They call DA II RPG of decade. They talk about innovations and stuff right ? I wont fall for PR talk twice. Hope I'm wrong again. But I cant be too optimistic while I see recent BW games.
