When attempting to install ME1 or ME2 on my machine, after hitting agree to the UELA, the installer immediately, without any other prompts, goes to.
Installation Cancelled.
Please restart the setup and try again.
It makes no sense, there appears to be no presence of ME1 or ME2 anywhere else on my computer.
This was bought via D2D, 2 days ago.
It still does not appear to want to install or function properly.

This happens to me too. I bought the game today and am installing via DVD. The first install hung at 23% and had to be cancelled (after about 10 minutes of no activity). Now any installation attempt will result in the "Installation cancelled" message immediately after entering the serial key.
I can find no hint of the previous partial installation on my filesystem or in the registry.
Thanks

Let me guess, EA Value Games edition?
Try these instructions. Note that you will need to install the 1.02 patch before attempting step 7.
http://ve3d.ign.com/...s-Effect/p1/c2/
Also, you may be required to check your hard drive and/or registry to remove any existing entries to ensure a smooth installation. I suggest either CCleaner or Glary Utilities to help do this.

Yes, it does have that text on the cover. I saw those instructions before and tried them but data02 does not copy from the disk. I am also trying to create an ISO, but it seems to be stalled at 8%.
From what I read I can maybe try creating an ISO on a machine with a different drive? I'll give that a shot tomorrow.
Thanks.

Any time an EA-pressed DVD is involved. it may fail to operate on a fairly large percentage of the different DVD drive models in circulation. Most of the time it involves drives that have "write" capability as well as "read", and yet you can quite often simply copy the contents from the DVD to a folder on your Hdd and then run the install from there.
I have been forced by this type error to use an older PC here with a plain read-only DVD drive as my source, and then access the disk across my LAN from my game-playing PC. I could install just fine that way.

Thanks.
Back to the question raised by the OP...
Trying again to install from a different drive over the LAN (12 hours later) and the "Installation Cancelled" error has gone away. I hope the same happens to you.

Install fails from the LAN too. Seriously, where does one find a non-writable DVD drive in this day and age?
If I can't find a drive that works then I'll have to get data02.rar from another source. Can anyone confirm the MD5 of this file?

I just chatted with EA support and they hooked me up with a digital license after I proved I owned the value games copy (I took a photo of the case, disc and receipt).
