After 2 years+, getting stonewalled at almost every turn by nearly every person I've come into contact with and/or asked for help, I'ma do **** my way from the get-go.
Agreed. Even my uber paragon Sheps are sick of this ****.
To be honest, if I was in shep's shoes, I'd tell everyone: "**** you! This your problem now". Then promptly march off in the opposite direction of all the killing, go all "snake eater" and hole up in a jungle or something.

LOL that would be a good alternate ending. Shepard just sings a good "F*ck you!" song before packing his things and leaving.

If I was Shepard, I'd completely understand if my Hero Capital was all spent after working with Cerberus.
If I were Shepard, when the Alliance or the Council next contacted me, or were contacted by me, I'd tell them that those giant f***ing indestructible ships that landed on planets and started destroying everything were the Reapers that I gave them plenty of warning about. Any war crimes I committed were because those bureaucratic a**holes gave me no support OR trust in the first place.
Then I'd tell then that I can and will save their a**es, under the condition that they publicly admit that I was right, that they were wrong when they "dismissed my claims," and that everything I did that was morally "wrong" was caused by their own inaction.
As for Kaidan, I don't think he's stupid enough to try and take Shepards place as the Normandy CO. The Squad is loyal to Shepard, not Kaidan. Joker is more loyal to Shepard, not Kaidan. EDI is loyal to Shepard, not Kaidan. Any former Cerberus crew members are loyal to Shepard, and you guessed it, not Kaidan.
And all this is coming from a primarily paragon player, because theres too much **** about to hit the fan to let those idiots have their way.

If I was Shepard, I'd completely understand if my Hero Capital was all spent after working with Cerberus. I would try to explain the necessity of working with Cerberus, and disavow any further affiliation with them. I would call Liara, Tali, and numerous other people to testify on my behalf, to corroborate my story and act as character witnesses. I would also submit to medical tests to verify Cerberus story of "bringing me back to life", and to verify Miranda's assertion that there is no control chip. I would lay all the cards on the table, because if working with Cerberus has taught me one thing, it's that I really could trust my old team, not so much my "new" team.
Alternatively, you could just call up Liara and have her do that Shadow Broker thing, and blackmail the ever living **** out of the whole Tribunal.
Might work for a Renagade shep, anyways.

I actually use a special mix of pesticide, tear gas, and sugar.

It has probably been said before, but military rank does not equal military position. If brass says you're in charge, you're in charge, even if there's someone outranking you.
Unlikely they will place the guy who just got court marshalled in charge of a ship at the start of the game. He did kinda start a war and kill hundreds of thousands of people.

Admiral Hacket let Shepard run the fleet
in ME1. The Alliance isn't in charge here, the Bioware writers are. I
can't see them writing a story where Shepard isn't the top dog.
Admiral Hackett took the advice of his soldier on the ground who had the most idea what was going on, He would be a bad Admiral to ignore the guy with all the intel.. Doesn't mean Shepard was calling the shots.

Maybe Shepard makes a decision and Kaidan tries to use his rank to make him stand down or something

Yeah and Hackett took his word it was the best decision to make.. cause shepard was the guy on the ground who knew what was going on.. He could easily have told shepard to shove it
I have two things to say. First, why the hell does anyone like Kaidan?
I've killed him off on all my Mass Effect play threws. Second, why do
you guys leave Cerberus, they are nice people.
Human dominance ftw =D
