What it is:
BioWare’s first ever costume contest showcasing costumes based off of any BioWare game. It is free for all who wish to participate in the contest or be in the audience and watch. Some entries will be individuals; others will be groups with a shared theme. The large stage in the BioWare Base in the Hilton Gaslamp hotel will feature excellent viewing for all in the audience as well as the focal point for costumed entries to show off their costumes.

When & Where:
5:00p.m. Friday, July 22 at the BioWare Base in the atrium of the Hilton Gaslamp hotel. People in costume are advised to arrive before 5:00 pm to allow video recording, photography and setting up of the contest. Any photos or video taken must be for personal, non-profit use only! You are welcome to visit the BioWare base in costume any day during the convention, but the costume contest will only take place Friday Night July 22.

How To Enter:
Anyone is welcome to enter and the contest is open to all who wish to attend. You must be present to take part and present to win any awards or prizes.

Judging:
A panel of guest judges, assembled from BioWare staff and/or special guests will select the costume or costumes they think are best.

BioWare Costume Contest Rules:
1) Costumes must be of original construction, or show significant modification of pre-existing materials. No
costumes are allowed that are purchased or otherwise obtained from a commercial source. It is expected that some
costumes may include as minor elements some purchased items.. This is a show of creativity and craftsmanship, not shopping ability.
2) All costumes must be based on characters from BioWare games or interpretations of costumes from BioWare games. BioWare games include: Shattered Steel, Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate 2, Neverwinter Nights and expansion packs, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age: Origins Awakening, Dragon Age II, Mass Effect 1, 2 & 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
3) You are welcome (and encouraged) to wear your costume around the Convention center, the BioWare Base or streets of San Diego if you so choose.
4) No liquids, messy substances, or anything that may pose a danger is allowed on stage. No pyrotechnics allowed. Unsheathing of bladed weapons is not allowed without clearance from BioWare Base staff  prior to the costume contest.
5) All costumes must be tasteful and follow all local and state laws.
6) For safety reasons, children under age 13 are not allowed. A Young Fan must have a parent or guardian present with them during the event.
7) Contestants agree to show up to the BioWare Base no later than 6:30pm to allow staff to plan the show, determine entrants, display order and so forth.
8) All entrants allow BioWare/EA to video record and photograph their costumes for non-profit purposes.
9) The BioWare Base staff may reject an entry on the basis of inappropriate or unsafe behavior or content, because the event has reached its limit for entries, or for other reasons. Please keep all costumes based on BioWare games and/or characters.

We will be filming the event and possibly showing it live. So show up in costume, and be prepared to have fun showing off your creativity. :)

I wonder if I'd win if I showed up naked and claimed to be Isabela? Or, hehe, ME3 Ashley (zing).

Well, if you're wearing pants it won't be realistic anyways so you'll be partway there.

You'd win, yes. Just not the contest, necessarily.

Let's just hope Gears of War isn't hosting a costume competition at the same time. People might get lost.

Hi Everyone.

Please note we have updated the time of the event and the rules slightly. Due to legal reasons, the contest is only open to those 13 years old and above.

We have also changed the start time. It is still on Friday July 22, but attendees MUST show up at the booth in costume before 5pm. We are going to be doing a "red carpet" filming and interviews with people in costume, plus there is lots to get done preparing for the actual contest. So please show up at 5pm or before.

Thanks and we look forward to seeing you in San Diego. :)

@Chris:
you might want to update your point number 7 to reflect your change, unless I misread it:

7) Contestants agree to show up to the BioWare Base no later than 6:30pm to allow staff to plan the show, determine entrants, display order and so forth.

Also, someone above mentioned Sonic. I'm assuming that you might not have the rights to that one but could be added at the same time if you do have the rights. I think a bunch of Kids running around like frantic maniacs would be entertaining to watch. I hope Jason Fox can attend.
