(and as AVP was mentioned, I love that game - and that particular prototype might have been inspired by long sessions of Survival...)

Yeah, I remember Stranded, the long walk to that bunker that was probably my favorite one!

Thinking about that now makes we wanna have a Smart Gun in the ME universe!

:D

Who cares? Those things only appeared liked 10 times at the max. Not to mention they were extremely annoying.

Thanks to Gethagra, this is no longer a problem.

Well, now I know the new standard for if ME3 passes muster or not: will there be an advertisement for Gethagra?

This is disappointing, The Hoppers/Stalkers/Ghosts where explained in the codex as Geth evolving and using new types of materials, almost organic in type, how is ME3 going to explain their evolutionary absence?

Well going by the fact that undead Saren used the same type of attacks and moves, it could be explained that Sovereign gave the idea to the Heretics.  Since there are few Heretics left (and they didn't play a large role in ME2), that could explain why there are no more.

Gameplay wise, the most annoying thing about the hoppers was that they used sabotage and damping against you.  They weren't dangerous on their own that I recall, just a bit of a pain to kill.  Given that sabotage and damping are no longer part of the game, they'd have to give them other attacks as well as the aforementioned engine issues.

True, .... i was going to go on a rant about why they should stay and how it could be done, but its pointless as they have been removed already and no amount of posting will bring them back, but i hope there is some sort of aknowledgment in ME3 or explanatin as to why they are missing.

The dev (brenon was his name i guess) already explained why they aren't in the game anymore, so you want them to make something up in game to explain why they don't exist anymore? There is no good explanation I could come up with and I think his real explanation is much more satisfying than a cheap "Yeah... they got stds and all died" line or something.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's sad they won't include them. Together with the rachnis they were the only enemies popping up from different angles (rachnis out of the vents for instance) and were able to create some kind of suspense that way. At least for the first runs when you didn't already know where and when exactly they would pop up.

I hated those things. Dang jumpy geths. I always ended up missing them 2358346 times before killing them.

Yeah, my shepard brainwashed the heretic Geth, and I guess the other geth are bros now , plus you figure the gameplay in ME3 is gonna be more focused on the immortal machine gods that are killing everyone.

It would be cooler if the Geth went all battlestar galactica and made quarian looking versions of themselves , or something freaky like that.

not sure what you mean with BG since I never got into that, but I could see that as a plausible story explanation to appease the fans and create continuity in canon.  Shep brings peace between the Q's and the Geth.  Geth in an effort to better reassimilate with Quarian society decide to use their technology (the same "organic" metal skin of the hoppers) to create more organic looking geth humanoid platforms.  Sort of to "humanize" themselves.

Well if not the hopping geth . . . will we see some enemies with a different array of movement capabilities then?

Maybe some more bionic "teleporters" that use that Vanguard charge ala the one in *spoilers kinda* that one DLC boss?

Or perhaps some more small flying drone enemies?

I was hoping for a thread about rag doll physics. Anyway they annoy me because they have the temerity to move quickly. I'm guessing by the emphasis on heavier weapons and armour though they might not make a retun in ME3.

Might sound completely stupid but we know there's gonna be husks from different races and I thought Turian husks might be like this, since Saren was like that at the end of ME1.

Would be good to see that kind of enemy return and abit more variety in the enemies we face. most of the enemies in ME2 apart from the geth armature or threshermor just shot at you and/or took cover and you could use the same tactics on all of them

Hoppers aren't in the Geth enemy palette for ME3, sorry.

But what about Snipers, Armatures, Shock Troopers and Juggernauts? They´ll be back, right?

To any outsider observer, me handling even one of these guys always looked like I was a panicking fool because I am literally filling the air with bullets.

I know what you mean, but sometimes I kind of like that feeling, lol.  I mean just being able to hold the trigger on my assault rifle and let the bullets fly.  It's exhilarating.

lets all just say out loud what we're thinking:

Hoppers were removed because only PC players using a mouse could deal with them with relative ease. Controllers for tv games by design aren't accurate or responsive enough, and trying to hit them on the 360 controller probably drove a couple of people to drink. Spousal abuse at the very least.

Really? I actually grew accustomed to their hopping around. I honestly didn't think they were as much of a pain as they were and I actually racked up a few kills on them.

The key was to see where they landed, aim at that spot even after they jumped away, they would come back to that spot, easy peasy even on consoles.

But I guess people couldn't figure that out.

This.

Which is why I think that while they were fun to fight, (apparently in my opinion) it's pretty easy to spot their hopping patterns and pick them off that way.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this - Geth Hoppers didn't HAVE to be a challenge for the player at all. The Power Wheel lets you pause the game, but still aim.

Just bring it up, find the hopper, and blast it.
