My game will randomly crash after I complete the starting zone with any race/class,(Sometimes I can get pretty far into the game but it will eventually catch up to me and crash)  My screen goes completly black and a repeated sound error, were the only solution is to restart my computer. I currently play the game with medium graphics on.  (Dragon age 2 works fine and has never crashed on me)

Operating system: windows xp
Processor: Intel® Core™2 CPU     6300 @ 1.86GHz
Clock Speed: 1866 MHz
 Physical Memory: 1.99 GB
Display Adapter; ATI Radeon HD 3800 series
VRAM: 512 MB
Driver version CATALYST 10.4
DirectX Version : DirectX 9.0c (Au2009) or later

is it a problem with my system requirements? or is there something I need to do?

I'm using Win 7, and I'm experiencing similar problems. I get window screen saying Dragon Age has crashed and must close type of thing and I reload the game and after a couple hours usually it does it again.

You are missing some critical information, but I would suggest checking the solutions roundup thread pinned to the top of the forum as a starting point. If you are running programs in the background (Windows Media Player etc.) turn them off. DAO makes heavy use of the CPU and other programs running in the background are likely to cause issues.

Steam has had some issues, particularly with the Ultimate edition, with not actually installing everything it is suppose to install.  Direct X updates and daupdater services have been the most frequent victims, but other things have been known to not install quite correctly as well.

A second possible problem is that the game makes more use of the main system specs like the CPU and the RAM than one might expect.  Both of yours are a little on the low side, so if you have anything running in the background, it might be causing issues.

Finally, you should take a close look at the solutions roundup.  I'm more familiar with Nvidia cards, so I don't know which drivers, etc cause issues and traffic through this forum tends to be light in the summer.  You may well find more specific solutions in that thread.

Stuttering and freezes in game (solution yet to be confirmed):

seemed to be the closest thing related to my issue except it does not offer a solution

(I don't have anything running in the background)

What, if anything, have you tried to do to fix it?

Having both versions installed at the same time is known to cause issues. Let us know if a clean, single install helps.

It's a graphics thing, nvidia cards hard a hardware acceleration module for it. Software emulation for other cards. Physx, like Nvidia graphics card drivers, can be updated from Nvidias website.

In short, don't worry, PhysX is supposed to be there and updating it should either make no difference or improve things.
