That's a good insight about so many of us choosing Bard, SoI. It kind of makes sense, if you think about it - imaginative, loves good stories.

We had Windfoot briefly who seemed interested, and was a real-life fighter type, but he seems to have decided it wasn't for him and moved on.

I think part of the thing is that real-life fighters and defenders don't spend that much time playing D&D or computer games. They'd rather be working out and practicing their sports. Whereas I, by contrast, prefer to spend my time sitting in a recliner using my imagination, contemplating the meaning of life, watching good stories on my tv, playing computer games like Baldur's Gate, and typing to people on the internet.

Thank you for forgiving my faux pas.

I should have updated. We headed south and ran into 4 spiders...was a group wipe...no way to stop the poison in time. I'll probably reload and continue some time. For some reason once I die I tend to lose interest in the character. I would like to play a monk to high level and see what it can do.

Interesting concept... shame i don't have BG1... I will try to tag along in BG2 though...

I took the test and surprisingly so i wasn't shock what i got...

True Neutral Human Cleric (3rd Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength- 9
Dexterity- 12
Constitution- 19

Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXXX (12)
Evil ---- XX (2)

Race:
Human ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXX (13)
Dwarf ---- XXXXXXXX (8)
Elf ------ XXXX (4)
Gnome ---- XXXXXXXXXXXX (12)
Halfling - XXXXXXXXXX (10)

Although I might concider going with Chaotic Neutral to be more honest with my alignment. I know its physically impossible to get 19 starting constitution so 18 will have to suffice. Weird enough you think I be a Sorcerer with my high int stat...

KrazySolo, I think the test picks cleric when you give it a whole lot of positive answers involving healing the sick, helping other people, and caring about religion.

The high INT involves your self-reporting about your problem-solving and analytical ability.

I suspect the low WIS has to do with your seeing of yourself as chaotic neutral. The answers you gave along those lines were not seen by the test writer as moving you along the pole of law vs. freedom, but rather as moving you down the pole of wise vs. foolish.

I have no idea how you got it to give you a 19 CON. You must have told it you NEVER get sick, ever, and that you can take a punch that would knock out an elephant, and that you run marathons.

For the challenge, play anything you want and have fun. That test is only an amusement, and MAYBE, a source of self-insight for some people.

Well I never do get sick like most people. I've only gotten the flu once in my 30 year existance, I've only been sick 4 times of the common cold. So yes I have high metabolic resistance. I've only selected average answers far as taking a hit. After all I've fell down flights of stone stairs and not suffer any injuries beyond bruising. Definately did not pick any options in favor of being sprint runner or other noted.

Not sure but I'm more incline to say I'm a sorcerer than cleric, but I am religious so it is possible that I could be a religious Sorcerer. Whatever the reasons I will concider only cleric or sorc as logical choices. I still maintain a high memory of recalling things with photographic quality. Highly unlikely I ever forget something.

Most of my choices was centered around being lazy and what not. But have perception of the world around me. So it might be the test doesn't concider wisdom associated with being Wise as in world knowledge but wise in choices made.

Either way I'm more suited to be a spellcaster that doesn't use scribing and learning.

I've gotta say, I've been thinking about doing another BGII run and this might be a fun way to do it.

I took that test and came up with a True Neutral Elf Wizard/Rogue:

Ability Scores:
Strength- 12
Dexterity- 11
Constitution- 13
Intelligence- 14
Wisdom- 16
Charisma- 12

Alignment:
Lawful Good ----- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (16)
Neutral Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (22)
Chaotic Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (18)
Lawful Neutral -- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (17)
True Neutral ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (23)
Chaotic Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (19)
Lawful Evil ----- XXXXX (5)
Neutral Evil ---- XXXXXXXXXXX (11)
Chaotic Evil ---- XXXXXXX (7)

Law & Chaos:
Law ----- XXXXX (5)
Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXX (11)
Chaos --- XXXXXXX (7)

Good & Evil:
Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXX (11)
Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXXX (12)
Evil ---- (0)

Race:
Human ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXX (13)
Dwarf ---- XXXX (4)
Elf ------ XXXXXXXXXXXXXX (14)
Gnome ---- XXXXXXXX (8)
Halfling - XXXXXXXX (8)
Half-Elf - XXXXXXXXXXXX (12)
Half-Orc - XXXX (4)

class:
Barbarian - (-2)
Bard ------ XX (2)
Cleric ---- (-4)
Druid ----- XX (2)
Fighter --- (-2)
Monk ------ (-19)
Paladin --- (-21)
Ranger ---- (-4)
Rogue ----- XXXX (4)
Sorcerer -- (-2)
Wizard ---- XXXX (4)

I'm not sure how that wisdom stat got so high. Also I'm probably more neutral good than true neutral, or I like to think so at least! I'll shave the wisdom score and put some points into intelligence and dexterity so I can actually play a multi-class build.
It's strange, I don't think I've ever played a full blood elf in one of these D&D games.

I think most people are supposed to be True Neutral, correct? I'll try out the questionnaire and start to play around in BG1 sometime this week. Sounds like fun. Not sure what I think of combat though, but I will most certainly think about it.

The thing here is that 10 represents a normal human. A 12 would be someone who was particularly exceptional in that area.

An olympic class bodybuilder would have a str of like...14. Einstein would have an int of maybe 15.

The test seems to be set on 3rd edition where all the basic classes can multi however they like with the restriction of only allowing 3 classes. Essentially Rangers and Druids can be evil in 3rd edition.

Hmm, I wondered whether that test would ever really call someone evil, because it usually takes into account your selfish impulses without moving you too far along that axis.

It seems to define "law" and "chaos" as "how much do you respect authorities, and how much are you willing to break the law?" So it's not that much of an insult to be called "chaotic" if you believe strongly in individual freedom and are a maverick in real life. The test will also call you "chaotic" if you give too many answers showing a willingness to lie and go back on your word. Some of the more nefarious lies may count a tick on the chaotic evil axis.

The test basically defines "evil" as "selfish", not as any existential or religious definition of it. I think there are a whole lot of "evil" people in real life by this definition who you might actuallly enjoy as friends, if they are good-looking and smart and funny, because they make you laugh and have a good time to be around them. You can't count on them when things turn serious or if the chips are down, however.

Anyway, maybe you were feeling unusually mischievous or joking when you took the test Iro, and you gave a higher number of flippant responses just because they were funny. "Chaotic Neutral" might describe the real you better, if that's the case. And some of the most popular npc's in the game are CN, such as Jan Jansen.

I don't think the psych student who wrote this test (for fun) was thinking of it like that, Matuse. For one thing, he wanted people to have a chance to get an actually viable D&D character.

Based on the data we have in this thread, (I know the sample is too small to draw any conclusions), the test sees 10-12 as average human ability. Here's a table that represents my take on it, the way it makes sense to me.

3-5 severely disabled, unable to function normally
6-9 below average, over a complete spectrum of "almost disabled", "mildly disabled", "just really bad at it"
10-12 average human ability
13-15 above average, "gifted"
16-17 far above average, world class
18-19 top of the curve for human potential. Einstein was here in INT. Arnold was here for STR.
20 and above - not on the test - 20 begins the range of "superhuman", which doesn't exist in real life

Well I decided to try out that test to see what D&D character I would be and ended up with this:

Lawful Neutral Human Cleric (5th Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength- 12
Dexterity- 15
Constitution- 13
Intelligence- 17
Wisdom- 13
Charisma- 13

Alignment:
Lawful Good ----- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (31)
Neutral Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (25)
Chaotic Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (17)
Lawful Neutral -- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (32)
True Neutral ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (26)
Chaotic Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (18)
Lawful Evil ----- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (16)
Neutral Evil ---- XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Chaotic Evil ---- XX (2)

Law & Chaos:
Law ----- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (16)
Neutral - XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Chaos --- XX (2)

Good & Evil:
Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (15)
Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (16)
Evil ---- (0)

Race:
Human ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXX (13)
Dwarf ---- XXXXXXXX (8)
Elf ------ XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Gnome ---- XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Halfling - XXXXXXXX (8)
Half-Elf - XXXXXXXX (8)
Half-Orc - XX (2)

class:
Barbarian - (-27)
Bard ------ (-23)
Cleric ---- XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Druid ----- (-2)
Fighter --- (0)
Monk ------ XXXX (4)
Paladin --- (-19)
Ranger ---- (-6)
Rogue ----- (0)
Sorcerer -- (-2)
Wizard ---- XX (2)

Was definitely not suprised about the class it chose. My intelligence and wisdom rather useless for my class though. Can't even dual to mage.

Interestingly, the quoted max press (military press) for someone with 18/00 strength (maximum human) of 480 lbs is not far from weightlifting world records - then again they didn't have steroids in Faerun.

The breakdown for intelligence in 2ed goes something like this. 8-10 is average, I tend to think of it as IQ divided by 10 , even if that isn't how it's calculated.

@Corey, I haven't figured out what the test uses to compute wisdom. I think it bases INT on analytical and problem-solving ability. I think it may base WIS on self-reported intuitiveness, making connections, and wholistic thinking - kind of like a left-brain, right-brain duality.

Since it seems inconsistent in how it figures mage-cleric vs. INT/WIS, I usually just consider INT/WIS a matched, interconnected pair, and adjust it accordingly for the correct class.

Thanks for trying it out. Despite its flaws, I think it's kind of interesting. There are other tests like this one online - a lot of people have made them. But I think this one is the most thorough and had the most psych education behind it.

I'm sure the test put me as cleric because I am religious, not because that fits my attributes. What's a bit ironic is that I consistently do wiser actions than those people my age and somewhat older me. My wife is almost 10 years older than me, but I definitely would have the higher wisdom score. Typically, the only people who beat me in this category are those people more than 25 years older than me.

16 WIS would probably be more accurate.

Sixteen WIS it is then, by all means. You know yourself way better than any anonymous psychologist who was playing around with his skills when he wrote the test.

Also, for the challenge, we just want to have fun. For example, I always give my casters 18 DEX even though my real life DEX is horrible. I just pretend that my magic-sensitivity gives me an uncanny knack for avoiding blows despite my clumsiness. As in, I trip and fall just as an axe swings past where my head would have been.

Evil rangers and druids makes sense sure, but since I'll start a BG game without modding it I'll have to settle for the evil thief.

I think the test site indicates that it overestimates all of the scores by 2, so you should deduct them by 2 if they seem outrageously high.

I think the law vs chaos/antilaw/untrustworthy thing is pretty much okay and good/altruistic vs evil/selfish makes sense. I went with my gut feeling on each answer and I am very antilaw on some points and selfish on others, so I guess by those terms it matches up just fine as well.

You can check the test questions and answers by opening the page source and check the java script in it. Match the numbers of the additions to the questions and you'll find out what you score when. It made sense for most of them when I went through them, if you keep heed of the law=law, chaos=untrustworthy, good=altruistic and evil=selfish bits.

I am going to try out roleplaying myself in SoA/ToB... Shame I couldn't do it starting with BG1.

I'm gonna use the test result as my stat and class choices, with the exception of str and con, where I'll take one from con and put in strength. I'll be going Chaotic Neutral as I'm unpredictable how I act emotionally.

So the character is follow..

Priest of Helm (Might as well take the kit since no reason not too).
Chaotic Neutral
Str 10
Dex 12
Con 18
Int 17
Wis 13
Cha 9

As far as party members go I'll definately not be using Nalia, Anomen, and Minsc. They are just too holier than thou in how they rant and rave. Definately will be taking a look at Valygar, Mazzy, and Korgan (or Keldorn). I can definately say I will probably not use Edwin or Viconia although I wont be killing her :D. After all Helm is about justice and what happens to her is not in line of being justice.

So potential party will be Yoshimo or Jan Jansen, Valygar, Keldorn or Korgan, Mazzy, Haer'Dais or Jaheira or Cernd. Yoshimo will most likely be replaced by Imoen if I do take him over Jan. If you haven't notice I'm avoiding NPC that can be romanced by the PC as i'm personally uncomfortable with romances. Although Jaheira would be more my type.

Hmm at first I thought Cleric wasn't my type of class, but it seems I was wrong. I was playing myself as a Sorcerer and lets just say I'm clueless :P.

Guess I'll be doing a new start with a cleric again hopefully get pass the boredom from last time.

Bah.... In all fairness shouldn't the individual play a class suited their playstyle/enjoyment?

If I was trapped in faerun yes I might be suited to be a cleric, but I've learned one thing that may conflict with that. For one I'm certain I'm not a cleric due to serveral reasons.

1. I'm a christian as such would find it hard to pray to gods that seem pagan lore wise.

2. I don't like studying or reading.

3. I'm proficient in the use of Staves, Spears, Bows, and Darts.

4. I'm a tinkerer type of individual.

5. I'm carefree like to trick people.

6. I have temper problem when i get frustrated.

From those simple fact I am now back to square one. I have no clue what I would be in Faerun.

I was thinking maybe a berserker/thief. I am honest to a fault though I am not above making lies to avoid bad events. I've had stolen things even though I've become less sticky fingers in my adult years.

So maybe fighter/thief multiclass Dwarf, Half-Orc, Gnome... or Human Berserker/Thief Dual. Either way I go i'm going to have mediocre statistics. My Strength has weakened over the years, but I can still carrying 100 pounds over my shoulders. So if I am right that would be like 11 or 12 str. My dexerity is average or above average. Once again about 12ish. My constitution or state of health is fairly high. I rarely get sick once a year at the most. I have stamina to be active for long periods. High pain tolerances. So 17 - 19 Con was about right. My intelligence is borderline genius so 16 - 17 is fair lvl. Wisdom would be above average. I have great insight with my surroundings, but mix result identifying sarcasm with writen words. So 13- 14 seems about right for wisdom. As for Charisma I am average/below average in appearance, but I'm generally the silent type that remains secluded from groups. So 9 - 10 charisma is about right.

I'm average to above average in height, I have above average size frame, So I might rule out Gnomes as possible race choice, but my tinkering nature fits perfectly as a gnome. I'm not dim wited like a Half-Orc. So Dwarf and Human is most logicaly. I'm leaning Dwarf over Human out of lore knowledge of Dwarves. Slow to make friends, but free spirited in celibration.

So based on my own analysis, I would be a Dwarf Multiclass Fighter/Thief, Skilled in Quarterstaves, Spears, Darts, Long Bows, Short Bows, two-handed fighting style. Str 12, Dex 12, Con 18, Int 16, Wis 13, Cha 9...

Anyone else like to add their opinion go ahead.

Carinna founded this thread - and she said the stats and class should be what YOU think you would be in Faerun, being honest with yourself. You do not have to use that web site's suggestion. So if you think you would be a fighter/thief, go with it.

Carinna

Absolutely - I didn't even know that website existed when I created this thread. It said I should be a druid, when I thought I'd make a better bard. Be what you think - if you believe yourself best represented by a dwarf multiclass fighter/thief, then be a dwarf multiclass fighter/thief. The website someone found was only for fun, not for straightjacketing this challenge.

Also, feel free to put either 1) the stats you would have now, or 2) the stats you would have had in the prime of life. I knew one gamer who played from his bed while hooked up to an oxygen machine - he wouldn't have gotten far with the stats he had from that, but he was 70+ years old at the time. If you're not in such good shape now, due to ill health or whatever, put yourself back to the best that you ever were.

I know... Was pointing out the flaw in the test. It described your personality and rationality. Thus the test was good for determining your alignment, but ultimately the player is the one who decides their path in life.

If i had to take a role that mirrors my alignment it would be Druid or Thief... In the case of Thief I would concider Berserker or Fighter for bg2 since I have temperment issues. Either way one would have to determine what they feel they would be rather than basing it on their personality.

Now that I think of it in my prime before my injuries I was able to carry 150+ pounds over the shoulder.  So my strength would have been 14 - 16.  My dexerity was never great prior to injury but did drop as well maybe a 14 dex, Con never changed even after the injury.  Mentally I haven't lost much, but if i had to redo em my wis would be lower by 1 and int up by 1.

Either way it is a matter a personal identity that one has to determine.  What do you want to be if you was trapped in Faerun?  Your statistics should match your peak physical and mental competitency.  Hopefully more will try this challenge.

If it is possible Maybe we should create an Official thread for the challenge with the simple rules.

1.  Complete the game with fewest possible deaths.
2.  Reloads only for glitches, bugs, and deaths.
3.  Pick a role you would be if you was in the lands of Faerun.
4.  Try to make your Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha close to what your peak would be.  For Example 70 pounds carrying weight is 10 strength.

How is that?
