In my first 2 playthroughs I also didn't bring Isabela with me most of the times, but I was getting tired of her abandoning the party everytime I reached the end of Act II and decided to change that. Now I bring her almost everywhere I go, and I gotta say that my perspective on her changed for the better.

That and...I'll have to throw myself onto the Nathaniel bandwagon (even though he was a temporary companion in his quest, but...Shh!) I'll always opt for him as a possible romance, especially with a strong and possibly volatile backstory with a Human Noble.
Me too! I can't believe I forgot to mention Nate! He is my favorite Awakening character, and one of my favorite Bioware characters overall.
I like to think that Nate is my Female Human Noble Warden first (and unrequited) love. I even wrote a fanfic about that (and it's very rare for me to write fanfics).
It goes more or less like this: he was Fergus best friend and they used to train together and my tomboy character liked to watch (and even participate when allowed). She fell in love with him, and was going to confess, but, before she had the opportunity to, he went to live in the Free Marches. Later on, she got tired of waiting, married her new love Alistair, but Nate was still a special person for her, so much so that she spared his life in Awakening and made him a warden.
I got my hopes up when David Gaider replied like this "I like Nathaniel. So stoic. I think he would have been my choice for Awakening romance, had we done them." in a topic I made when DAII was still in production.

Exactly the same with Isabela for me too, FunnyChan! I'm starting a third playthrough with my same Rogue (my 'canon' Hawke, if you will) I've been abandoned constantly so I'm just gonna bite the bullet and take her with me next time, hopefully she might turn out to be my Hawke's BFF

I'm so glad I'm not alone in the whole NatexF!Cousland fanfic area, I'm currently working on one at the moment (literally, as we speak, I have the Word file up on my desktop XD) although mine was about when they grew up together terrorising each other when the Howes would visit and Nate left for the Free Marches, so they never really thought about a relationship. But the way their parents kept joking about it, it made my Cousland see him in a new light but she was pessimistic that he would return her feelings, so she wrote what she felt in a letter and sealed it as a form of "release"...but Fergus found the damn thing and sent it to Nate instead! Of course, she hides it and claims it was a brotherly prank, hehe. But when they meet up after everything, she's with Alistair and is happy, but then she bumps into Nate at the Keep and there are all these old feelings conflicting with the history that his father killed her family...but there are still sparks there, and she is severely tempted. (I mean, who wouldn't be, right?

). That's where I'm stuck currently, trying to see if my Warden would cheat on the guy that she's been through everything with, would she throw it all away for a past romance?
That end comment from David Gaider made me smile, it's nice to think that Nate was considered, possibly for a romance somewhere. We like the Howe, yes we do.

Back to this topic...a Sten romance? Really? That would have been...interesting considering the talks he shared with Morrigan...
