Then people will be pissed. They've got their work cut out for them giving LI's who aren't in the squad ample screen time to appease fans so they don't feel shorted compared to the ones that are in the squad. I'd say nothing less than playing a significant role in the story, having lots of dialogue, and an epilogue/closure to the romance and also maybe being a temp squaddie would be enough to please fans.

what do you need closer for when your already in a romance.

marriage you mean maybe? i dont think the character will get that personal.

Somehow I see my Femshep's romance ending in a not so good way...considering I romanced Thane.

I would guess that every LI is a squadmate. You do whatever quest they're involved with, and then they'll join you on the Normandy. 

Thane is the exception. I have no idea what's going to happen with him. The optimist in me says that he'll be treated just like every other squadmate, and will either have gotten treatment or just won't die until the epilogue. The pessimist says he'll be a cameo no matter what.

Overall though, I'm so curious to see how they'll handle this. I'm not so enthusiastic about the treatment non-LI ME2 squaddies will get. If I don't get to charge into things with Grunt at some point I will be very put-out.

I'd prefer they leave everything open ended and up to the imagination.  I hope all the romances get a happy ending that consists of "they're together" basically and that's it.

Shouldn't this be in the character/romance section of the forums? Oh well whatever. To answer your question though I'm pretty sure Bioware will consider this option and act accordingly to all the different variables and possibilities.

Well I am a bit more interested in the non-LI Character appearances than the LI ones. I dont see Bioware selling us short with the LI characters but i do with our other loved characters that are just regular squaddies like Legion and Grunt. Legion to me over the most part because he was my Favorite character and Id play ME2 over more if i could get him sooner without getting my crew turned into paste.

Now wheres the thread thats for Legion ME3 LI lol
