From what I know, the name was made to point at the most hardcore Tali's fans, but then the amount of haters and jerky users of this SN, that's one of the hightest I've ever seen, in almost 10 years of forum attendance, gradually extended it to everyone who likes and romance the character. Her fans, normally, don't give a damn of the reasonof why that name was made and they use the term them too, for the lulz, or for troll back who invented it.

If it makes you feel better, I don't find you talimancers all that strange or creepy. But then again me and my friends used to burn things for fun and I was a memeber of a Star Wars group who's whole point was to build and wear Mandalorian Armor to Cons, and humanitarian projects. And Lord knows what half of those here would say about the 501st, or the Mandalorian Mercs.

In terms of Fannon, Talimancers are a pack of purring kittens, hell SW's fans arn't so bad, but klingons fans and costumers, thats a strange, hostile bunch right there.

You have a really nice point btw. The jerks of this SN have no idea of how a true creepy fan looks like, if they think that just doing fanarts, polls and joke discussions about alien biochemistry is sick beyond any imagination.

They get special treatment becuase of the flow of the name Talimancer, there are just as many people 'obsessed' with other romance characters or even other parts of the games as the talimancers.

And BSN being...well you know BSN the more popular characters get the most hate.
A good example is the hate being thrown at Ashley or Garrus now.
Because hating on Talimancers is soooooo last year, and the hipster trolls can't stand to miss out on the latest hatefest

Creepy fan obsession is not unique to Tali's fans, and you can find similar people in the groups or threads dedidicated to other squad mates. To be fair it is also a minority of her fans. I think the reason why Talimancers got singled out is that after Mass Effect 1 the discussion wasn't confined to an official Tali thread, and the main board was often being spammed with "Y Tali no romanceable" threads. That, and other discussions unrelated to Tali were often derailed by obsessed Talimancers. So while there might be people equally obsessed with Ashley or Garrus, they have mostly been in the official fan threads, and been out of sight and out of mind.

Oh come on, tell me how you really feel. I'm glad to see I still have the reputation among your crew however. The thing is I'm rather neutral about Tali herself. Yet her fanboys? You've earned the commentary from the "haters", that's for sure.

Even you must recognize the behavior of some Talimancers was little more than trolling on occasion. Hell, the mods had to tell you to control yourselves on several occasions. Oh and I'm sure if somebody wanted to go on a search they could find plenty of other flat-out weirdness. It was all joking? Sure......

Dang, that was hilarious. I don't think I've ever seen any of these profiles mentioned, except Woo the moderator's. Anyways, those are some wierd postings. I seriously wonder why anyone would care about the chemical composition of some made-up character's sweat. Something Awful always hits up forums I remember they did one on NMA too. Anyways, I just read "Talimancer" on the postings and was curious as to what it was. I thought it was a necromancer from Guild Wars.

That is actually a controversial topic. The issue of defining "Talimancer" isn't all that different from trying to define "Furries". The more you love the subject of the fandom the more inclusive your definition will be. Ex. "Anyone who romances tali in ME2 is a Talimancer, anyone who has ever enjoyed anything involving talking animals is a Furry." However, if you loathe the fandom you may choose a more specific definition that does not include oneself, often involving rule 34.

I am a big Tali fan myself, but I wasn't very big on the BSN forums until 2011 or so. Back then, it was one-off postings every now and then.

I find all kinds of X-mancers creepy.

Unhealthy obsession with anything is unhealthy. Even mreeso when ti goes into creepy and disturbing terriroty.

In almost every community, or following almsot any work or fiction, there's a sub-group of weird, weird individuals. the kind that writes terrible fan-fiction and is obsessive over stuff and characters. Some fiction spawns more vocal and disturbing groups than others.

Extreeme SW fains beign a good example. Touhou also.
Talimancers too.
