Oh man. I wish I could go digital and start buying stuff online but....20 gigabytes......I only have a 512 dsl. I can barely watch a youtube video without it freezing. Steam sounds awesome but downloading 20gb would take forever.

I like not having to hunt up disc when I need to reload. But sometimes the extras make it worth getting the box.

Yeah I think I'm gonna cancel my Gamestop pre-order, $55 is too good of a deal to pass up. If you bought the normal edition and Warden's Keep separately it'd $65 right? Though 20gigs is a lot, and I don't think that includes any of the DLC that comes with it either. Anyone know how big Warden's Keep and the Stone Prisoner are? I'm pretty sure the other stuff is negligable.

I wonder if there will be issues with mods/modding when using a digitally downloaded version of the game.

Cancelled my Gamestop CE and bought it on Steam. Yay. We also get an exclusive item.

Steam Exclusive Item

The Wicked Oath

Countess Luciana of Antiva lived as a virtual prisoner in her husband’s castle until an elven slave offered her a way out. The slave magically bound a small amount of the countess’s blood into a ring in return for a promise of freedom. The countess agreed, and the count was found stabbed soon afterwards, this ring lying beside him. Neither Luciana nor the slave were seen again.

Adds +10% to critical strike damage

Improves armor penetration by 2

Adds +1 to combat stamina regeneration

Pre-Purchase Exclusive Item

The Memory Band

Made by the Formari, these lyrium-infused rings are supposed to help apprentices retain their lessons. They work rather well -- too well, perhaps, as less capable students sometimes wear three or four per finger.

* Adds +1% to XP

* Adds one skill point

 Very glad to see this up. Just pre-ordered the DD version from Steam a few minutes ago. :)

Thanks to the folks at BioWare for making this happen!

I'm at a bind here. To get Steam version or to get retail version. I love mods and I wouldn't want to miss out on any mods that were imcompatible with steam. But 55 dollars is less of what I would be paying in gamestop for the regular version of the game. I have a slow internet but if I use preload as someone mentioned I might be able to download the game nearly in time.

So basically my issues are download speed and mod compatiblity. Suggestions please.

I truthfully do not know the technical points of the mod capability. My optomistic, and ignorant, side imagines that you could indeed mod your DA:O files. I know I downloaded random mods for L4D and modded that game... though that was a Valve game itself and they might have been prepared for such a thing.

As for the speed issue, though. That should be somewhat negligible I would think. Even at its slowest, you could just let your PC run an all-nighter (if there is preload) and fetch it up within a reasonable time hopefully at most into the later afternoon.

For me, the digital version offers me a lot of convenience over having physical discs. I can almost bet my current internet connection pales in speed to most all US users (my current location, I'm pretty sure uses coconuts to transmit it's signal) - so you'll find no sympathy from me about your speed problems ;).

Also consider, with this Digital Deluxe version, you are also saving by getting the Warden's Keep for free! A $7 add-on that would need to be purchased with your retail version, already increasing it's higher fee. Of course, this is at the loss of the map and box.

In a few days, I will more than likely make my way over the Steam and see if the community there believes modding will be affected. If anyone has experience or makes it over there, please do share what you learn.

I see. Then I shall buy the steam version even if I have to wait after the release date. If it gets me to save money and even more content then I'll just deal with it.I believe it is my time to have a try in what is the future of buying games. I truly do not care for the map or the box. They'll just end up lying somewhere on the floor of my room like all my other collector's edition. What I care is about content.

My speed is usually 54kbps aka 512 dsl. So it will take quite a while. Guess it will all depend how soon the predownload is enabled. I've never direct downloaded anything. I use torrents and torrents are usually slow so I can't gauge exactly how long it will take me to download something that large. Largest I've tackled has been 6GB.

At 56kbps 20 GB will take you roughly 4.3 days to download

For big release games, such as when Left 4 Dead and Aion were released, they allowed you to start pre-downloading the game files a few days (maybe a week) before it released. Obviously on release day there is an hour or so of download for the remaining files, but it should be bearable.

Of course I don't know if those game companies had worked something out before hand or not.

Congrats! Take solace in the fact you shall wear pretty exclusive Steam jewelery and have already saved some decent change as well gained the add-on Warden's Keep.
For your sake and mine, I do hope there is Pre-Load!

Well its not something that you could find answer easily anyway Mitch. The game is not out yet anyway. Mods that don't rely to the standard method of using the toolset probably won't work. It could probably compare to the fose mod of Fallout 3. It requires you to launch that exe instead of the main game. So it doesn't work like a regular mod. Fose disables windows live and I think it doesn't work with the steam version of fallout 3.

Scratch that. It seems Fose supports latest Fallout 3 steam version so maybe things with Dragon Age will go nicely. Maybe the programmer making the mod just has to make sure to have steam in check. Well I don't know how modules will play out yet but it should work just the same as retail. I will have fate on steam.

Yeah thats exactly what i was thinking. The person who replied said that he mods alot of steam agmes and we will have no problems unless we need to change/add .dlls or .exe

Of course there will be pre-load, especially for such a huge game. The thing is that I'm not sure when that pre-load will begin. It should give us a couple of days, but I'm afraid it might be just the one day to download. Post here if there's any news regarding this, please.

I notice the game profile page on this site appears to have a space for achievements. I guess that means that, unlike the thoroughly pointless achievements in the PC version of Mass Effect, you'll be able to show these ones off to your mates. Has there been any word on whether they'll also show up on my Steam profile?

Also, will characters from the character creator work in the Steam version?
