What you're proposing is that "being a fully bisexual person" and "choosing to wear a catsuit" are both frivolous yet "valid" types of freedom of expression.
Highly disagree. BioWare forcing Ashley to wear a non-funcitional catsuit for fights is only a manifestation of dudebros' games using women as their toys. But BioWare forcing the VS to be deeply in love with a same-sex old friend is in-character and it plays up to neglected queer gamers. Why not? VS was forced to be deeply in love with opposite-sex old friend too.
So long as you keep the "some women just choose to be sexy" excuse for BioWare, you will keep telling yourself it's all about her self-determined gratification as though her Spectre status changed her into a vixen who is busting-out in a way the dudebros can appreciate. You will not be able to confront BioWare's hand in tokenizing her as the only Spectre inexplicably dumb enough to charge in with loose hair, high-heels, and a catsuit.
You don't know that what Ash is wearing is non-functional.. it actually looks functional to me when you consider what people like Nasa, nascar, and figher pilots wear.
Because you haven't seen her wear that outfit before, doesn't mean it's not like Ashley to wear it... remember, you haven't seen her for 2 years (and when you do, she's on a mission). Similarly, you can argue that just because we haven't seen her be gay doesn't mean she can't be gay.
I won't argue the s/s notion... but I do laugh at the double-standard.
Ashley does have more operational latitude now, but there is nothing that can justify the claim that she would undermine herself at her job just to be a dudebro fantasy. I'e noticed this claim tends to avoid considering she might still be an Alliance Marine as well as being a Spectre. Just like Shepard was. In which case, that is another reason she's not going to change from hardsuit to catsuit.
"Make herself look nicer"? I think you mean "make herself look more like a fool" and not like the Ashley that Shepard actually appreciated. I, of course, mean "BioWare is responsible for making her look like a fool." Not sure how you're able to reason out excuses that allow room for her to dumb herself down just because she possibly landed the hero of the galaxy.
She's not undermining herself at her job... she's off duty there. And we already know that she'll have armor... so it's not a replacement either.
We've already gone over the fact that she does not wear armor 24/7... she didn't even do that in ME1. Letting her hair down doesn't mean much either except that she made herself look more attractive (and even that can be argued if you preferred her original hair style). Women do tend to don multiple hair styles though throughout their lives... not a big deal or suggestive of character alienation.
The suit she's wearing looks like a jump suit similar in design to something worn by racers, figher pilots, and nasa. It's not a big stretch...
Lastly... you have work clothes, and then you have clothes that you wear to make yourself look nice. They're rarely, if ever... the same.
"We don't know how long it took her to get there either..." She was already onboard the thing when it reached them. And yes, we do know how long. Witness the E3 demo. Judging by how long the Reapers had already been setting up shop, the general alarm on Earth would've been blaring already, far in excess of the time it would take for a well-practiced Marine like Ashley to suit up.
She was on board when the ship got there... yes. There's nothing saying when she specifically got on board the Normandy... just that she was on board when the Normandy arrived to pick them up.

Is Shepard wearing armor at that time as well? Is Kaidan? Is Liara? Was Jenkins or Kaidan wearing armor before they landed on Eden Prime? During the debriefings were Kaidan, Ashley, Shepard, or Liara wearing armor? I honestly don't know what your point is.
Again, saying that she'll wear something different from what she already says she prefers - knowing full well the reasons why she prefers it - just because she became a Spectre is incredibly silly. Armor has served her well for years before Shepard met her and it served her well after Shepard died. Yes, I know it didn't work on Horizon...Collector sting beetles move slower than slugs therefore kinetic barriers won't operate.
The point is... she has armor, just because we don't see her in armor when she rescues Shepard... doesn't mean she won't wear it. Every time you've seen Ashley she's been on a mission as a soldier... no one has ever seen her other side. I wouldn't jump to conclusions or be surprised to hear she actually does more things than dress up in Armor and recite poetry.

She already alluded to wearing thigh-high boots and a tin-foil mini-skirt. She makes mention of what her sisters would think of Flux. She expresses disdain how guys are the same no matter what race they are or where they are in relation to Chora's Den. She even makes a comment about being a tiger in bed if I remember correctly while also not being romance savvy if you romance her completely. I have no ideas of her being an inhibited recluse.
At this point she has no armor. Until we see it we can't say with any kind of authority that she has any armor. Chud made a tweet a few days ago which is quite similar to a tweet he made last month which was prior to the re-color of an outfit we were shown in the E3 demo. Anyone who actually cares about the consistency of her character would show just how
Ashley was written, very well, by Chris L'Etoile who is no longer with Bioware. There are many, namely myself, who are worried about how Ashley will be portrayed in ME3. What we saw recently in that shot (once again) being a re-color of what we were shown in E3 doesn't serve to ease any concerns we may have.
Again, until we actually see it we can't say with any authority that Ashley has her own armor. Until we know that it'll be available everytime Shepard is wearing armor we can't say, with any authority, that it will be of any use if she does have it. And in my case, if it requires a separate download - meaning that I'll have to pay extra for sensibility - I'll have no reason not to think that Bioware had every intention of ignoring Ashley's character as was established in Mass Effect.

Kind of crazy how that armor outline draws your eye into seeing such a big frickin' dude. If my outline (based on the mesh underlay) is close to his actual proportions, its certainly not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. Also, I like all the designs.

Its just a skin and guess what its OPTIONAL. don't like it don't use it.
Infact there was a ME2 DLC that would have Miranda wearing armor in missions and not her normal suit.
IMO I kind of like ash outside of Armor and Allince PJs I also love the fact that we will get to see her with her hair down for once.

honestly I don't see why people are soo uptight about ash not having armor. In game it doesn't really matter, look at what Jack wears what Miranda Samara. Kasumi Thane, Jacob. nothing they wear screams combatzone armor.
After a year of people complaining about how stupid her standard outfit was.Infact there was a ME2 DLC that would have Miranda wearing armor in missions and not her normal suit.
The reason for that DLC was because of the complaints.

All of their outfits are equally inappropriate for the type of combat in the game as well - Ashley's appearance is just the straw that broke the camel's back. People are jumping on her in particular because there seems to have been such a big change from the Ash of ME and ME2.
The argument that Thane, for example, wouldn't wear cumbersome armour because he's an assassin is valid, but put an assassin on the front line, where he isn't being remotely stealthy, and the fella will need some protection. On the ship, on down time, or in appropriate missions/situations, I don't think many people would have a problem with a lack of armour.

OK, despite the common theme of the thread (read: Ashley's appearance), it is about discussing the picture in general. To that end I noticed something that I though deserved some consideration. Bearing in mind this is extremely crude in its execution:

They do need him to fit with the human animation skeletons. Though I can see weird clipping being an issue when the game ships, unless they modify his armour a bit around the arms.

Neither do I, as long as she stays out of direct combat. In combat against the greatest threat this galaxy has ever faced however, I expect her to dress for the occasion - in armor.

I don't know if she's crying, but I've been mentioning how concerned I am that he left. I wish he wrote Ashley for ME3 before he left if he had any wiggle room to do so. Since DA2 released I've been clamoring for the same person who wrote Aveline to write Ashley. I really don't want Ashley to become a damsel. She wasn't one or at least wasn't portrayed as one in any of the games.

They should keep the red/pink and white coloured version as her first appearance because those are 'her' colours. She wore pink and white armour in ME1 and ME2. And then have the blue version as the 'alternate appearance'.Only problem i have is her hair. Its a horrible haircut, especially in the trailer when the hair was in the way as she tried to shoot..,it just doesnt look nice to me. I dont think it will look nice in-game either. I dont mind her hair being down, its just the shape i dont like. The side-fringe is over her eye. Its just..bleurgh.
But whatever, overall i actually do think it's a nice outfit. The more i look at it, the more i like it, especially in these colours. I think im the only person who likes it, its pretty snazzy. Ive noticed her boobs look smaller than in that preview pic we had of her in the blue outfit.
I dont like Liara's outfit, both from a character's personality and the way it looks view. It doesnt look nice to me, and it looks way too much like Samara. If they dropped the 'OOH SHINY' material and used different colours it would look so much better. Purple and red...the headband..shiny rubber thing..sigh. It doesnt seem like something Liara, the prothean scientist now shadow-broker would wear.
Overall, not too keen on it. I prefer her white and blue version waaayy more. Although, i think it might look nicer in-game. If they just dropped that stupid head-band i'd be slightly ok.
Kaidan looks ok, im cool with that. Much better than in ME1, they've manlied him up a bit.
James's outfit is cool. Maybe if they added a bit of colour, because the grey looks too plain for now. Im worried Jame's will be a generic shooter character with that generic american accent and the generic "lets get in and shoot" attitude. Whatever though. Nows not the time to be worrying about his character.
So yeah. Seriously though, I actually really like Ashley's outfit in these colours.

that is what it all comes down to on me1 we could equip what we wanted now in me2 and possibly me3 its what bw wants that freedom of equiping what you want has been taken away, for most people the freedom to equip any weaopn/armor is what rpg is all about. their problem is they took it out completly.jasonsantanna wrote...
To fix all the debates about what Ash is wearing and her armor or causal outfit or not BW should just go back to the old system of ME1 allow the player to equip what ever sets or pcs. Of armor or clothing on Shep or squad members similar to ME 1 but improved lite armor would provide more mobility , less protection , heavy armor more protection but less mobility. This would clear all the headache about what and which armor the squadmate would wear , ppl complained so much about ME1 having to many armor , mods and guns to choose from , that it was dumbed down to much in my opinion , I for one hope that ME3 finds a middle ground for that , I didn't mind at all ME1 high count of inventory , I either sold what I didn't need or turned it into omni gel.
Just look @ what happen to DA2 inventory and ppl complained so that it was dumbed down to much could change outfits when u wanted or squads I didn't buy it just because of that, but for me personally I like having a choice .

(Bolded for emphasis) The person who wrote Aveline was actually Lukas Kristjanson. Luke wrote Kaidan in ME1. So having him back for ME3 would be fantastic.
