However... Squad size in mass 3 is an interesting topic. Casey says that the core permasquad will be more than Mass 1 (6) and less than Mass 2 (12), so it's logical to think that the core permasquad will be 8 or 9 characters.
Now what we know:

That's 5. Including the LI choices from Mass 1 and two of the LI choices from Mass 2. In the sense of fairness, it doesn't make sense not to include Jack, Thane, Miranda and Jacob as core permasquadmates as well. And since it is said that "If players achieved a love interest in both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, then there will be two love interests vying for their Shepard's attention in Mass Effect 3. This "love triangle" will be resolved by the end of the game."
Since this pretty much says that a great amount of the game involves a triangle between your previous two LI's, it stands to reason that both of them would be on the Normandy for the biggest chunk of the game.
So take the known five squadmates and add in the rest of the LI's.

That's nine my friends, fits perfectly into what Casey said.
Now, of course, these are the core, permanent squadmates. Optional squadmates (Which have been confirmed) may make the squad larger. Of course, they're only optional so what Casey said about a smaller squad is still true.
What do you think? I'd like to romance Ashley just so that I can watch Jack kick her ass... Or Liara so that Jack can show who the BEST biotic is.
