Probably not very mature, there might be some light probing on the subject of the nature of evil and the position of faith in everyday lives of ordinary people and the consequences of bigotry/extremism.

But mostly it'll be some light nudity, senseless violence, pointless juvenile humor and swearing that would fail to shock my grandmother.

Until some kid goes bananas and Fox News picks up on the fact that the kid had played DA, and start anew their anti bioware crusade.

And then I have to start going around on various forums, blogs news sites etc and LOL at Fox News and make fun of their pathetic attempts at trying to hard to look like they give a hoot.

Note that when i say the word mature, i mean it in the way of "mature/reasonable conversation" and not "keep minors away from this smut".
Also, as i don't live in the US of A, what some idiots keep doing in FOX is not really an issue in shocking my grandmother (and even if it was, she'd probably be more shocked about how people can be so stupid as to blame some game for their failure at parenting, altough probably not, it's not like it's so shocking these days anymore, sad, definetly, shocking, not so much:().

Judging from trailers and previous game, the sexual content in the game is probably going to be pretty tasteful, if that's the right word for it. Sensual, and only hints that there's sex going on. You ever played Mass Effect? The sex scene in that game was really well made, and I don't think Dragon Age will do a whole lot more- I just think the whole SEXXX AND VIOOLLENCEEEE MARRILLYN MANSSOONN thing they had going for quite some time was to attract a different audience.

Interesting topic though. I mean, why are you so afraid of ****** when there's heads chopped off, blood all over the place and things that are a lot more unpleasant around?

Yea I played Mass Effect and my brother did too. That is why I am trying to figure this game out because it's from the same developer

I don't pay attention to journalists, now back onto topic, I personally don't think the uber violence is going to be that bad, think lots of blood rather than lots of internal organs flying everywhere, I don't think we're going to see any purple wobbly things flying across the room.

Partial nudity could mean ANYTHING honestly, you could call being in your underwear "partial nudity"

So it is really about marketing then.

Halloween? I saw that when I was 10. The sort of violence and sexual content I've seen so far, is made for a 14 yar old. Mature my ass.

I played Mortal Kombat when I was twelve.
I think it's good that someone is actually taking the time to supervise minors when they play M rated games. I find that a lot of the time parents will complain about a game or a book being too "mature" for their kids when they haven't even looked to see if it was appropriate for them.

On the other hand, I agree with some of the other posters that it's kind of strange that violence is okay but showing certain parts of the body is not. I suppose a game about WWII without violence wouldn't be very fun or make a whole lot of sense, though.:P

BTW, the "partial nudity" might also be a reference to the desire demons. They were apparently naked enough to be censored in the Xplay preview of DA:O.

Nono, I'm in for raping corpses and murdering children. I just wanted to know if we could also murder corpses. The other combination would be raping children and I don't even want that in a game.

Lol, my parents let me play resident evil in the mansion when i was about 12 years old or so, i remember being scared of them lol. When you open the doors you can hear the characters heartbeat, or when you slowly walk up the stairs knowing there is zombies about really got me going.

When i was about 14 or so i played resident evil 3 nemesis, let me tell you.. I was scared to hell when that guy would randomly just roar and run at you, or when i was swarmed with zombies. Mostly it was Nemesis himself though that scared me lol, really surprising how he jumps through the windows later in the game.

Err he is 14 I don't think he is a kid anymore, when I was 8 I played games such as Duke Nukem 3D that have a bit of nudity and a bit of gore, I wasn't really shocked. DA:O doesn't seem to be a shocking game, I mean you can be shocked for game like Silent Hill if you are a kid but DA:O? and by the way you can hear swearing almost everywhere you do you care so much about swearing in videogame ?

I didn't say that to prove you wrong or something but it just seems a bit harsh for a 14y old kid.

It really depends on the child and their parents. You're the brother I think you should ask your parents or which ever ones makes these decisions. I'm 29 and I have 3 siblings in their pre teens and teens. I totally know what situation you're in OP, and letting your brother play a game your mom doesn't approve is asking for it.... lol Yes I've done this before... And the game was FF9, I really didn't think there was anything wrong with that game for an 11 year old for gosh sake's.. But I've been careful since then in case I get mom's evil eye. You don't want that...

Personally I think 16 years old is more appropriate for this game, but again it depends on your parents and your brother. Posted ImagePosted Image

You can turn down the 'over the top gore, blood and violence' via a toggle in the game's options menu. I can't find the exact quote from a dev. right now, but I do think that both Nathan Frederick and Fernando Melo have said in in a post over at the now soon to be archived (old DA) forums.

As for the romance thing; being a Bioware game this is entirely optional and the OP's brother shouldn't choose them. Don't know if the OP's the brother played the romance option(s) in the first Mass Effect ? The romance options lead to love scenes, not sex scenes - as said the screen goes to black - and then it is morning.

That's the one thing to consider; the other thing to consider is this:

Some choices requires really tough decisions. like the one in the Sacred Ashes trailer (go look it up for yourself - if you haven't already), I think you need to ask yourself if a 14 old, especially your 14 old brother can handle these choices without help from you ?

edit:

I will commend the OP for asking about this; being aware of his 14 year old brother plays and just being involed in his life...

I am 27 years old and my brother is 14. I am trying to see how Mature is this game and to see if he will be able to play it. My parents and I started letting my brother play a few mature games but it strongly depends on how mature is it. For example we let him play Assassin's Creed (no swearing, no over-the-top gore, no strong sexual content). He also could play Metal Gear Solid 4 and he plays a bit of Call of Duty. We also let him play Fable but I told him he can't get married haha. On the other hand, we do NOT let him play Grand Theft Auto, Killzone, the WItcher or similar games. (Swearing every other word, and very strong sexual content in The Witcher especially).

Therefore, I am trying to see how bad is this game? I know there is lots of blood and it stays on the armor but it doesn't seem from the trailers that there is any over-the-top gore especially against humans. Also, the graphics are not as realistic as other games so it makes it better. Also, killing darkspaws is not as bad I guess. How about swearing? I haven't seen anything in the trailers. There is talk of ale and drinking but that's fine. And finally, how nude and sexual are the romance scenes? Does the game show a lot of it or is implied and then the screen just fades or camera is obscured?

Also, are there any settings that can tone down blood?

Keep in mind that if we let him play this game he will be supervised. So he will not be just sitting at home alone playing this thing. I will also be playing the game so if I see something I will make him skip it or not let him play.

He is really into fantasy games and RPGs and he reads a lot of fantasy novels so I really want him to play this game. Looks like the story is top notch.

Thanks for all the input.

Maybe someone from Bioware can comment on this as they know the game in and out.

Omg, how can people be such jerks?? 14 year and you can let him see gore, lol. Mb you also wouldn't let him have sex with girls?? If not (seriously, if yes - you have kinda mental problems:pinched:), then why no to sex in VIDEOGAMES (its like ****ing cartoons man). 14 ain't no 7 zomg, even not 10. "Oh noes, it has blood/boobs/swearing, it's not for our precious sweety-sweety little boy". He's a young fella, not a kid, not a p_u_s_s_y (damn the forum's filter). And you're denying him all the fun. You'll end up growing a damn castrate:?.

Thanks for the intelligent response. Hard decisions like that might a problem but once again he always calls me and shows me something he is having trouble with so I think he will be fine

I would play through the game first and see for yourself. I am glad you are even asking this question; to many people just assume a 14 year old is ready for it. It is up to the individual. Good job for thinking about it.

Uhm... Yeah, I'm 15, and my parents are buying this game for me, I've been playing "mature" games since I was like 10. I doubt they give a crap what I'm playing as long as I don't jump out the window screaming "For Ferelden!".

I guess I am the chosen one who can play games without thinking it's the real world, but sure, I've seen some weak minded people of my age, but they are kinda too "cool" to go playing games, because they are busy drinking and playing Farmville while uploading pictures to facebook.

Back to topic, let him play the game!
