SoZ won't install. Making me angry. Orignal and MotB installed fine, haven't done any updates. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling (followed the post 4-5 things). How do I fix this?

AMD x64? Vista x64? Win 7 x64? Your post lacks the standard information we need to help you.

I really don't like to criticize people asking for technical help with the game; I think this community should be welcoming whenever possible. So, I'll just let you know how this thread looks from my perspective as a long-time community member: Your title assigns all the blame to the game. Each post has the absolute minimum information possible, from which it's juuust vaguely possible that someone might understand what you're referring to. You don't actually ask for help anywhere, you demand it. And then you express disappointment, whether with the game or the community (you don't say which).

I can understand why you'd be pissed off. You paid for a game and you expect the delivery of a product that functions as advertised without work on your part; this is a reasonable expectation. And  for the most part, this community would love to help you and bring you into the fold. So let me make a couple suggestions as to how you can get the best help possible.

1) Post your complete system specs. Yes, it's a pain to do this and you wouldn't think you have to. But eliminating all potential variables that might be an issue could greatly help narrow do where the problem lies.

2) Take any feedback seriously. If someones asks whether you've followed a particular step, you might think they're being nit-picky or assuming that you're stupid. But this is how trouble-shooting works--you can't make any assumptions.

3) If your problems continue un-resolved, check out the NWN IRC Channel. Responses on there tend to be snappy, though people aren't always at their computers 24/7.

4) Have patience. This is a great game platform, with the potential for unlimited enjoyment, with a huge amount of community content available.

Sorry if this comes off as a lecture. And if you don't want to spend time working out this problem in conversation with the community, that's certainly your perogative. I just wanted to put out there how you might go about it if you do.

My title assigns no blame. It merely states a fact, in which my version of SoZ is acting as if it were not compatible with x64 systems (which I have been assured it is). Perhaps I should not have used the word like, as it is not sentient enough to like/dislike anything, but I figured that wasn't really a big deal. My apologies.

The end of my very first post says "How do I fix this?". My apologies if that sounded demanding.

You are correct when you say that I did not provide my system specs. I still feel that this is highly unnecessary (in this case, not in general), however I will do so upon returning to my computer.

As I gave no specific direction for my dissapointment, it is a fairly safe assumption that it is with everything. Or at the very least, everything I causally interact with. The game and the community both fall under this classification.

I am not pissed off, merely mildly irritated. I am far too lazy to be angry, at least for very long. Nor do I expect the game to work with no effort on my part. I do, however, expect it to work, and it is not, and for a reason that I have been told is invalid.

I've recently done an install of NWN2/MotB/SoZ from Steam on Windows 7 and I had no problems with the install. I haven't played around with the toolset yet, but I was able to start up SoZ and play for a bit and saw no problems.

What do you mean by "SoZ won't install". Can you describe your experience? Does the install fail with an error? Does the install complete but then the game won't start? Any additional detail you provide might help someone to recognize your problem from their own experience.

If you are willing to spend a few dollars more you might try buying it on Steam and installing it that way as a last resort. It has been selling for as little as $7 at times. If that also had problems it would at least rule out the software media as the source of the problem.

Regards

I've played around with the toolset, and it works fine, win 7 64 bit.

The only thing that jumps out at me as an obvious question in those specs is the video card. I know very little about notebook cards, so I'll just point it out as an issue since this game is rather tougher in the graphics department than you might expect. Then again, I wouldn't think that would interfere with installing the game, just with running it.

Also, you mentioned that you were able to install the original NWN2 and MotB. Have you been able to play them, or just successfully install? If you haven't tried playing them, you probably should do that to verify whether any other problems are in the works.

somewere deep in my mind i think i read that few people've got prolems installing patches and addons if they try to install them all in one run. the solution was simple: after every install start the game and play for some minutes. afterwards install a patch, play, install the next patch, play, install an addon and so forth. dunno if that helps here.

When installing from DVDs I always install (and have done so more times than I can count now) in this order and have never had any problems. I've found that leaving out the patching after MotB can result in later installation problems.

Install NWN2:OC
Install MoTB
Patch with autopatcher
Install SoZ
Patch with autopatcher

Regards

I have finished the OC and am about halfway through MotB since my original post. I realize the video card is underpowered, however, I can still play the game acceptably. This computer is almost four years old now, and I'm buying a new one once I graduate. It can wait until then. I probably won't have a whole lot of time to be playing games anyway =P

I have tried both Sempers and Kaldors suggestions, both before now and again just now. Neither helped. I still get a little pop-up error saying that the software is not compatible with x64 systems. I can get a screenshot if that is particularly desirable.

If you still want help then yes it would be helpful.
