If you have an EA account, you are already "signed up" for Origin, as you can log into the server with it. But no one is making you download the client, so. No?

I've read ME3 will only be avaialble digitally on Origin, so no Steam version.FERMi27 wrote...
Buy the Steam version then. I'm sure it'll be "Origin-proof". Though, I cannot guarantee anything beyond the basic edition if it's not on Origin.

edit : I know what you mean OP, like some games that require Steam to be installed, even to play a SP game. And I stand by the "We don't know yet".

My understanding is this is true for the deluxe mega whatever edition. Nothing has been confirmed for the regular edition yet.Fredvdp wrote...

EA is pushing their own digital distribution system/DRM with Origin; logically that means they wouldn't put their new games on Steam - the main competition for Origin.sighineedname wrote...

If ME2 will be available on steam, then it's likely that will happen until way after it's release date.
To the OP: we simply don't know yet what the DRM scheme for the retail version of ME3 is going to be.

That makes sense. Steam is still a huge source of income and it's not as if Origin is new, it just recently got a name change.sighineedname wrote...

I'll not be buying the last version, if they force peeps to only buy through their online system.
Not to mention STEAL the name for their own gains!!!! I will not utter the name, in this context!!

The usual complaints against any online based DRM and a DRM that requires an additional program can be levied against Origin.rogermacarios wrote...
What'd be so bad in installing a 30mb program on your computer?
But personally I'd primarily go with that you have to activate the game online, with no guarantee that the server for it will still be there in a couple of years. That and the fact that you have to be connected to the internet, everytime you want to access your singleplayer game (note that I've searched around to see if Origin has something resembling steam's offline mode and I could not find any evidence to suggest it does)..
Oh and the kicker is offcourse that this is something only paying customers have to suffer through. Someone that pirates the game will not have this DRM, nor will he or she have to worry about whether or not the activation server is still around and/or available. And for emphasis in case anyone from EA/BioWare is reading this: deliberately ensuring that the pirated version is superior to the legit version is lunacy and an affront to common sense.

I'm confused, what if I buy the retail, *not digital* version? Do I still have to use Origin to get all the extra stuff??

It seems that some of the individuals posting on that page have reading comprehension problems. They think that the digital deluxe version contains items that are not available in the retail boxed collector's edition which is not the case.
Reading really is fundamental.
My question is: assuming the bonus weapons and so on are not on the game disk but must be downloaded, can I download them from the Bioware Social Network (like for Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 1 & 2 DLC) or do I have to download it from Origins. I apologize for having reading comprehension problems :-)

I've pre-ordered the N7 edition at gamestop. I'd better not have to be connected to the internet to access content I frakkin paid for. I'm ordinarily signed in to XBL when playing, but if my internet connection goes down and I want to play ME3 I should be able to use what I've paid for.
This, a thousand times.

Hard to imagine, but it happens. Sudden connection interruptions are quite annoying.

Now if they are treating steam this way with Battlefield I find it hard to believe they are going to release Mass Effect 3 on steam either. In short PC gamers should be prepared to either buy it retail or from another DD source because it is pretty clear EA are trying to sink steam.
