Did anyone tell themselves this was a good game?

I'm in the "actually and sincerely thought DA2 was a good game" camp.

I did this, the only way to to actually complete the game, I told myself the storyline was going to be good, okay, it sucked at the beginning but I seriously told and believed myself that it was going to be the one redeeming feature about the game.. and well, it wasn't. It still is the second worst game I have ever played.
The second worst? Now I need to know, what's the worst?

^ Final Fantasy VIII. That game, it is so bad I don't even have the words to describe how bad it was.
Well I agree with this much at least. The game is so bad it required the codex to explain how bad it was. Edit: whups I thought you said XIII. That'll teach me to respond before having coffee. 13 was horrid. 14 was even worse.
As for DA2, no I didn't have to tell myself. I figured it out on my own.

But when it didn't happen, I suddenly came to the realization that this game was NOT that good. That it was something very VERY alien to Bioware: a bad, uninspired, uncreative, game.

True story: I not only managed to convince myself it was a good game, but even after being bored to tears with the recycled maps and the endless waves, I managed to convince myself that it was a deliberate part of the narrative.,.. that Varric was trying to Bore Cassanda to sleep so that he could escape and the real awesomeness would begin in the second half of the game. I half expected Cassandra to cut varric off in mid sentence and say something to the effect of: "Bullsh*t, Dwarf, stop repeating yourself already and tell me something NEW.
But when it didn't happen, I suddenly came to the realization that this game was something very VERY alien to Bioware: a bad, uninspired, uncreative, game.
^That. And then I cursed.

I hesitate to even compare the two games (TW2 vs. DA2) because they're so deliberately different from one another. But when someone forces me to stack them together and make a comparison, then YES, I'd say the Witcher 2 is heads and shoulders above DA2. It just does so many things so much better: story, atmosphere, style, pacing, Even the sex scenes are more memorable.SkittlesKat96 wrote...
EDIT: I refuse to believe anyone who says the Witcher games are any better than Dragon Age II though (well actually The Witcher I and II are slightly better but I suppose it comes down to personal preference) The Witcher was just such a drag for me to play and I still haven't finished The Witcher II (but I am enjoying it and I did enjoy the Witcher just not as much as I did DA II)
DA2 wins points on the fact that it's more "classic" (it's party based, more classes, more spell choices, more combat talent choices, more interesting loot) But even THAT stuff isn't enough to make things equal. Not when it fails so horribly in its presentation, and game world choices, and story... you know, the fundamental things that we RPG fans look for in an RPG.

Dragonage 2 was a good rpg
Dragonage 2 was a bad rpg of bioware.
Point. Nor dlc or expansion could change that.

I understand the tech problems why they did it as well.
Overall I thought it was good and enjoyed it.

The only thing I hated about XIII was the lack of exploration, but XIII-2 is going to fix that so I'm glad. I loved XIII's story and characters.

It was only a demo right?
Laidlaw and Co. said the game would be better ... they wouldn't lie to us would they?

A bit inconsistent, though. When it's good, it's really good, but when it's bad...

I personally enjoyed it a lot. Origins is probably the better made game, but I enjoyed DA2 more. Yes the recycled environments and waves were handled poorly. But I enjoyed the combat a lot more, I find it one of the more tedious things in Origins. Went back to Origins yesterday (I still need to play Warrior for my platinum trophy.. Just can't get myself to finish it), and I really realised how much the combat was better in DA2. Also when I heard I had to go in the Deep Roads/Fade I was feeling really depressed, because I thought it would be like the deep roads and fade levels in Origins, but I thought it was handled much better.
I found the biggest problem with the mage story that all the mages are bloodmages.... If I hadn't played Origins to know that they could do better I wouldv thought they weren't worth saving. But yeah the Origins substories had similar problems, because it wasn't convincing they actually had enough soldiers left to form an army. But yeah noone can explain that like KoP, so I won't even try that.

XIII was crap. Lack of exploration is an understatement. The game ran on rails from beginning to end and required no choice whatsoever. Could play the whole game just running in a straight line and hitting X continually. The sad part is the only real reason for that level of Linearity is to tell a solid story and it failed on that. You were forced to read the codex to have the slightest clue what was going on.
I say this even though I thought the game was gorgeous and liked the characters. Except Hope. I swear I spent most of the game wishing he was the one that fell to his death and I got his mother instead.
I'll be giving XIII-2 a pretty wide pass. I'm surprised they're making it to begin with.

ah you missed there excelent forum support ....
...ie TW forums vanished after complaints that some could not play the game and have still not returned .Of course the complaints and missing forums are not connected who could think that.
But EA and bioware stop listening for weeks and weeks .
CDP are not all wonderfull and bioware/ea not all bad ..

The game would have gotten a 3 out of 10 rating except for one saving grace. I found Varric, Aveline and Isabella great characters. No, actually I found all of the characters fairly well done, even if I didn't like some of their personalities. It is a shame that some of my favorite characters Bioware has ever done will be associated with this game, and hinder their chances of ever being seen again.
Oh, and I actually didn't like my character that much, Hawke was sort of a wishy washy stoner who seemed to just stumble through things and only actually do something if cornered and had no choice. The supporting cast was much more interesting that Hawke and his whole family plot, although I did like the uncle a bit towards the end.

Still a game splendid in its mediocrity, and poor by BioWare standards. Sorry, BioWare, you spoiled me and DA2 was not up to your high standards.

I despised the linearity too. I guess two pirates are gonna have to disagree (I'm a dwarf pirate
I didn't even need to read the codex.
I will say this though. When landing on Pulse I found it impossible to believe the entire world had no humans living on it at all. Thankfully, XIII-2 has a protagonist who is from Pulse, so I'm glad that the world isn't entirely desolate.
The music score for XIII was amazing too. Oerba Village's theme actually made me tear up.

And I facepalmed during a certain end game event, and another one right after that. A cumulative headdesk I suppose. But all in all it was a fun ride, not one that I'd care too much to repeat though.
