Let me know what you think I should do next. While I get the ropes of the new toolset and finish playing Dragon Age, it'd be good to have some sort of plan to cogitate. A description of some of the options:

*"The Birthday" is a mod for NWN2.  If I were to convert it to DA:O, I would have a lot of the hard stuff already done! Choose this if you think I need a trial run on the toolset before taking on a big project. Also: Should I convert it wholesale, or should I try to fit it into the lore of Thedas? It truly wouldn't be that difficult, I think.

*"Adventures of the Black Fox" is a codex item you find in DA:O (reprinted in full on my blog) for a reprint of it.  I would riff on the story in the following way. The PC would be a companion to the Black Fox--one who played a hugely important role in his story, the Sancho to his Don Quixote, but whose name *for some mysterious reason* gets erased from the account above. Choose this if you think I should start with a big project right away while the flame is still burning fresh, you like the idea, and you like DA:O lore.

*Finally, I could make a mod set in a custom world, or a mod of a different sort set in Thedas. If you vote for these things, let me know what kind of story you're interested in.

There's a poll on my blog (link below).

Harp & Chryzantemum II ! (or the hell you type that )

Kidding mate!

I just wish you the best of lucks, but my choice was to make something little for the moment. If the vein explodes then.... better to gather with a good group for making something cool, hopefully with you in it :D

PS: the black fox doesn't sound bad at all

I like the black fox idea - BUT, does sound like something that could grow and get out of hand - so if its a risk that you'll be working on something that'd never see the light of day if you look at it realistically, then maybe a remake of The Birthday would be better..?

But yeah, I'd vote for Brons Daughter (in NWN2) if I had *any* choice..... ;)

I voted for "The Birthday" in the lore of Thedas. I really like the Black Fox idea, but like you said; some practice with the toolset before taking on the big project would be better.

Black fox sounds great. Even more so if you decided it was worth the time to make him a permanent new companion. Although that might be half the project with all of the dialog scripting...

I think you should definitely start "Birthday"-sized to get acquainted with the TS, but I would personally not care much for a remake of the mod. It might bring it to new audiences however... Not sure how you would bring it into Thedas, as it seemed to me a little "out of that or any world", which was of course much of the point at the time.

Perhaps a short prelude for the Black Fox then? On how you meet him perhaps? (Unless that was planned for the full fledged mod...)

Well, as I was saying on your Blog, Maer, you have my support no matter what you do.

Whilst I love the idea of a module based on the Black Fox (as you well know), I do agree with others in that a "The Birthday" sized module first might be a good idea.

It wouldn't be a plug in to the main campaign, it'd be a self contained campaign in it's own right (if I've not misunderstood Maerduin's intentions). So, making use of that "Other Campaigns" button that is currently greyed out for most of us.

I'd be pretty interested in seeing the birthday redone for Thedas, just from a lore pov- i'm curious where you'd go with it.

I'm trying not to spoil, but I think it would be interesting if it was based around creatures more like flemeth than the more obvious alternative alternative of demons and spirits, although YMMV on that.

Generally I agree that smaller projects are better early on.

Yes, I think a smaller project is better for the first time around--so maybe the Birthday, but I like E. C. Patterson's idea about making a small Black Fox episode, too. The original conception for Black Fox was an episodic mod, but without the use of an export character function (unless someone's devised a brilliant solution to this problem?) there wouldn't be much player continuity. What to do, what to do.

given that its (supposedly - havent checked in detail) to patch or add content to ongoing games, can you just ask people to hold onto saved games and have episodes continue from the last saved game?

Edit: Woops, I'm an idiot.

A Black Fox episode should be possible, I'd reckon.

I assume maerduin means continuity from episode to episode.

I can't imagine that updating a module is going to be diffcult to do, and people will probably come up with some kind of export-kludge at some point, anyway.

It sounds like you're more interested in the black fox idea, and doing an episodic structure means you are unlikly to bite off more than you can chew at any one time.

Wyrin--That's a cool feature, and I hope it's easy to implement.  Episodes even make sense from a narrative standpoint: I'm looking into the Adventures of Robin Hood, on which AotBF is pretty clearly based, and their structure is more episodic than epic.

This is just to say that I'm still working on the Black Fox project, if you're curious and didn't already know. I have a blog for it--

Bron's Daughter must be completed first so we can explore the depths of Irieabor that you created before you do anything else.
