It's not something I would do (because I probably wouldn't play it 30 times :P ) but I don't see why it shouldn't be an option.

Is there really someone arguing against this? Show me on the doll what the fast forward button did to you.

I'm simply having a hard time understanding how you can play such a lengthy game over 30 times, and still be bothered by a 10 minute intro.
I've played ME1 & 2 around 5 times each. If there's a part that I don't like or that I'm tired of, like Feros on ME 1 and the Reaper IFF in ME2, I just rush though it and press the X button as fast as I can in every conversation. It's really not THAT big of a deal. I'd rather see Bioware spend their time on more important features.

It's a story driven game. Of course you should not be able to skip the intro. It would make no sense.

as i said in the op this is my 30th odd playthrough so i already knew the story and for the first few i enjoyed the intro just after that i would have liked to skip it like i do with most dialog.

please bw skipable intro for me3

If you skip the dialouge whats the point of playing the game? All that fun planet scanning?

i dont skip it everytime i playthrough and i'm going to do a complete playthrough of me1 + 2 with no skiping sometime late feb

Pretty much every other dialogue sequence in ME2 could be skipped by hitting the button, just not the long drawn out intro. I'd say more effort went into making the game's intro specifically unskippable, since someone obviously had to go through the scripting and disable the ability to skip dialogue there. If we want to save development time, let's just not do that again.

For me, a feature such as the Black Emporium's mirror would solve any issue of unskippable intros.

I support this. You lose nothing by gaining the option, and that way, it's there for people that wish to skip it.

I completely agree.

Many people would like the option to skip the introduction, and it has nothing to do with impatience. The introductions to both ME1 and ME2 are great, but it loses its magic after repeated viewings. Same as with good movies. Thats why the fast forward button was invented.

And don't throw in the usual "you don't have to watch it"-argument.

Yes, we know that you can rename the movie files to skip SOME of the intro, but the lack of option to skip the intro is a major flaw that has marred the first two games, and frankly, its high time Bioware makes the intro skippable this time around. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to skip an introduction, and it's dumb that you can't.

The strength of Mass Effect, particularly Mass Effect 2, lies in the fact that it's a game you want to play over and over again to explore other classes, genders, conversations, story etc. Therefore, having a ten minute long introduction that you can't skip past when you want to start a new character is stupid and makes no sense. However well-made that introduction may be.

Here's hoping we can skip the introduction this time. It would also be nice to have the option to skip the 'intro mission when starting new characters.

And it would also be nice to be able to skip logo screens when you launch the game, but seeing as EA wants to burn their brand into our brain, I doubt this will happen.

this

in my 30 or so playthroughs i have played every class multiple times sometimes as an ar soldier, sniper soldier shotty vanguard, smg vanguard etc... ,  as dif genders and to get different outcomes from the suicide mission and every time i click star a new game the first thing i feel is oh no i have to sit through that damn intro again when i should only be thinking of what build i'm going to do, how shep will act and who will live.

I don't care about the EA and BW logos in the start, as that is a one time only when I start the game and I can go make a mug O coffee while it happens. However after I pressed "start" I really want to be able to skip anything.

Even if they introduce the "black emporium mirror" thing, I still hate to hear "shepard did everything right blah blah blah blah" and frankly (and quite sadly) I think I've heard those lines more than most have...

It would be nice if skipping things in general was handled better. We need better skipping technology!

It should be possible to skip nearly any cut scene and dialogue - however, it would also be nice if they put in a feature that would make sure you didn't skip things accidentally. Some games do it - you hit a button, and a little prompt comes up telling you that if you hit it again, you'll skip the scene. (make it optional, maybe?) And it'd be nice if they could break up some of the longer non-interactive cutscenes into multiple sections, so that you have the option of skipping most of the cutscene, but watching the very end before the action starts, rather than having it be all or nothing.

I also wish they'd fine-tune the conversation system, and make it so that it's impossible to accidentally choose your next dialogue option (without even seeing what it is) while you're trying to skip a line of dialogue that's almost finished. How freakin' hard is it to make the "skip" button different from the "select" button?

(or, if that's too complicated for the segment of the population that just hits "A" over and over, make it so that you can both skip and select with "A", but another button will only skip)

Design a way so you can't accidently skip it. Like a two button combo. But yeah its the main reason I hated doing multiple characters because of the intro.

Yep, yet another unskippable intro would be a big fail on Bioware's part.

To prevent people from accidently skipping it they could make it accessible in the menu during cutscenes with a final confirmation where you have to press OK again. Really easy to implent and won't bother people who don't want to use it.

DO WANT

I hate having to go through ME2's intro. It takes way too long.

Agree. I edited the coalesed to make most of those movies skippable. I understand why that might be a problem, people might accidentally skip movies but they should just stick up a "Skip scene Yes/No" box.

Make it compulsory on the first playthrough then all subsequent playthroughs have the power to skip

I completely support being able to skip the intro (and every other cutscene for that matter). The design in ME2 was especially bad because you couldn't just leave it running while you do something else because there was an interactive bit in the middle.

The intro itself is not a big deal.

The intro if I'm playing around with the character creator is a HUGE deal. I typically transfer the ME1 face and make a habit of getting it right in ME1 first, but my first playthrough I didn;t really like the ME1 face and boy was it a pain in the ass to get a decent looking Shepard.

Would you be annoyed if you had to watch a ten minute loading screen, but had to keep pressing A every three minutes to continue it?

There's a huge difference between playing a 30 hour game, which is actually playing an experience you paid for, and watching an intro, which is cool the first time, but after creating a second or third character, just becomes a hinderance in the way of beggining the game.

Don't get me wrong, the intro is fantastic, but after the tenth time, it loses its magic.  In movies, which people watch more than once, they DO allow you to skip certain scenes (although I'm not a fan of re-watching movies either) or fast forward.

True, it is a story-driven game, but more importantly, it's a character-driven game.  So I want to see what the story is like if I play as a different class, background, and personality.  I don't want to have to watch an intro which will be the same every single time, and isn't changed by my decisions at all.  When I want to create a new character, it shouldn't take me twenty minutes to just get out and about and explore the new options.

I've played ME1 & 2 around 5 times each. If there's a part that I don't like or that I'm tired of, like Feros on ME 1 and the Reaper IFF in ME2, I just rush though it and press the X button as fast as I can in every conversation. Nearly every other game has an option to skip cutscenes.  It can't be that hard.

Not to mention, the conversation options there were completely pointless, and had no effect on the story at all, besides a handful of morality points.

I feel like they were just there to make sure you were focused.

It should be a staple of all games now that cut-scenes be skippable. Pretty much everyone I've seen voice an opinion on the subject says that they hate unskippable cut-scenes. And yes, just today I re-installed me2 in an attempt to make a good-looking custom Shepard to import to 3. As soon as I got in the game and saw there was something I needed to tweak, I realized it'd take ten minutes just to get to the character creator and I immediately gave up.
