Games have had this problem for, what, 20 years now?

ITS TIME THAT DEVELOPERS LEARNED SOMETHING. Especially a high budget one like ME from an experienced dev like BW. It's just... just... wow.

It's bad when you've memorized all the lines, even if you didn't want to.

Ok but only after completing the game...we don't want the new 12 year old adhd-kids to go go all "who's that guy I never saw him before the last scene" so we have to lose our patience and go "you should recognize him, he's the first person you see in the game" (well something similar anyway)

I really don't see why people want to skip cutscenes (in general) so badly.  They're a pretty huge part of the game experience, and I only ever skip them when I die and have to reload.  I can understand wanting to skip the stuff before the character creator, because you may have screwed up Shepard's face.  But why the stuff after?  I for one would find my playthrough of ME or ME2 to be greatly diminished if I skipped cutscenes all over the place.  I've played ME2 close to 30 times myself, and never had the urge to skip the intro.  If you love the game enough to play it that many times, why is the intro so bad?

I never had the face creator problem in ME2 because I always use my imported face from ME1 (with different characters).  The easiest fix would be to have the face creator and maybe class selection be the very first things you do, even before the intro text.  ME1 was like this, but unlike ME1, also have the cutscene show Shepard's face from a clear angle early on.  If you don't like the face, you can pause and return to the character creator.  Otherwise, I don't care if the intro is skippable.

Seriously, it's like people have no patience whatsoever.  That, or no appreciation for mood-setting ambiance.

If this were the case, I would be happy and a lot more patient with the cutscene....at this point, I sit holding my breath the whole time until I reach the skull loading page, hoping and praying the damned thing doesn't freeze AGAIN and setting me once AGAIN back to square one.

Not to bash adhd people but I agree with your point.  Feature should only be unlocked after beating the game.  Funny thing is my  cousin who was 18 at the time tried to give DAO a quick try (though trying it in one afternoon clearly wasn't enough) well he skipped the intro (a big no no if you are playing DAO for the first time) and 5 minutes after he made a human noble he was bored.  Then again he is a CoD fanboy so I kind of want him staying away from bioware games anyway.

I agree with you 100% I never change up my face in ME 2 because I like my Shepard to look the same as I made them in ME 1 even if my Shepard looks like crap (my canon is probably one of my worst looking Shepards btw).  I think a way to satisfy people might be if there is some sort of medbay upgrade or a similar feature that lets you mess around with your face any time you want to during the game.  Not that I would use it but I am sure alot of players would appreciate that.

While changing face midgame would be great, it does NOTHING to address my issues with the early cutscenes.

You ask why people would want to skip cutscenes, I ask why it would be so bad to have the options to skip cutscenes, especially since this option has been in game for a variety of games for YEARS now, in multiple genres.

Star Ocean, till the end of time is a good example. A long RPG, who's entire story is told in cutscenes, allows the option to skip, hell it asks you as you start the game if you want the OPTION available to skip!

Want a more modern example? Bayonetta. You can pause any cutscene at any time, and it then allows you to skip it if you wish. Very useful on second playthoughs.

Skipping the intro would help tons, particularly for when creating characters - testing how they look in the first few minutes of the game, tweaking, and sending them back into the game again. Sitting through an unskippable intro, no matter how beautiful it is, does take up a lot of precious time in this case. I wouldn't mind sitting through the intro otherwise.
