oh good I thought I was the only one who just wants the vehicles to go away.

Hammerhead driving felt like an arcade game, his weapons and armor are also bad.
Mako was awesome, it felt like space exploration and freedom. The only problem is that alot of people are blaming it because of bad driving. The problem was level design and terain, not his controls.
I would take Mako over Hammerhead anyday.
P.S Regenerate vehicle health?! Seriously?

The Mako beats the Hammerhead anyday. Never understood people claiming it was hard to control on xbox as I play on xbox and its kinda easy to drive when you figure out that it to drive forward, while looking back, you had to pull the left analog in the direction it was facing. Awkward controls yes, and could be better. But the Hammerhead losing to a geth trooper because I couldn't hit it and was destroyed by 3 rounds of Geth Pulse Rifle fire... No way, is this "tank" made out of paper?
Hammerhead was an exploration vehicle over anything else, of course it wouldn't stand up in a fight.
Yes, the Mako was "easy" to control, it was just impossible to predict. I have gone on realtively flat surfaces and seen it bounce off of essentially nothing. One time you can scale a mountain with ease, another time you can't. You hit a rock, you could spin 180 degrees. The Mako was finnicky.
It was boring, too. Drop onto another empty planet, scale some mountains, reach an objective, go back in, rinse and repeat. Combat? Sure, it's superior to the hammerhead, but that said, I'll just get out on foot or drive right by them if I can.
But it never tried to make itself central to anything. Sure, the Firewalker pack made it important, but it made the missions straightforward and to the point. Where as the Mako missions, it was just boring driving. Point A to point B.
Therum: Land on the surface, drive, encounter armatures, drive some more, encounter some foot soldiers, drive some more, tunnel, drive, rock barrier, get out.
Noveria: Exit parking garage, drive, encoutner turrets, drive some more, encounter some foot soldiers, drive some more, tunnel, drive, lock garage door, get out.
Virmire: Land on the surface, drive, encounter weird crab things, drive some more, encounter all sorts of geth units, drive some more, hit a gate, and another gate, finally reach the Normandy.
Illos: Drive in a straight path, hit a barrier, talk to AI, drive in another straight path, kill some units, then hit the aquaducts and kill some more units, then hit the conduit area and completely ignore everything around you as you drive towards the big glowin light.
Any other landable world: Land, check the map, go there, do something, get mad the Mako can't take you in a straight shot there, do it for everything else.
Seriously, awesome...
Sure, the Hammerhead didn't really have exploration, but I am happy for that. You knew what you had to do, and did it in not time. It wasn't a chore. Could it be a bit more durable? Sure, but oh well. The Mako was boring to use, even in combat. What's that? It's damaged? Run away, omni-gel, and go into combat to take on dozens of volleys from geth vehicles. Not much of a war when common APCs are able to tank damage from the geth...

Having vehicles in cutscenes only would be enough for me, like on Tuchanka, I didn't feel an urge to drive that Tomkah on those destroyed city streets.
And I still think that Shepard would want as much of an arsenal as Shepard could get his/her hands on.

But removing it completely was very bad solution in my eyes. Without it is ME 2 just too repetitive for my tastes.

If I want to drive around I'd play Grand Theft Auto. The Mako did nothing for me. I didn't feel like I was exploring a planet. I felt like I was exploring a painted on landscape. Not defending the Hammerhead here but everyone complaining about how easy it blew up probably never bothered to move.. because it totally made up with how fast it was. I hardly ever died because I kept moving.

The Mako was a damage tank with long range capabilities and low mobility, although it could arguably climb vertical cliffs.
The Hammerhead was a vehicle designed for hit'n'run operations. Get in, cause havoc, get out. It had vastly better mobility, but had light armor to allow for this, and couldn't carry a heavy weapon.
The Hammerhead had the capabilities to shoot around corners. The Mako had a long-range scope and a secondary weapon.
What one you prefer depends on how you like to play the game. I personally prefer the Hammerhead.
If they bring back the planet exploration I think that they should have both vehicles, and when you go down to a planet, you can chose which one to drive. Some missions would be better suited for the Mako, an all out assault perhaps. Some would be better for the Hammerhead, see Overlord.

The open world, jaggy polygon driving Mako sucks. It sucks all the butts it can find and then it orders more butts from a special catalog it got in the mail. Once those arrive, it then sucks those butts too.
The Mako on rails... the ice world, the volcano world... that I enjoyed. Happily, BioWare appears to have noticed that the rails aspect tightened the fun and blended the driving action into the story, as we saw in LotSB. Hopefully they keep that up in ME3.
I will saw the skies in ME1's Mako sections were pretty sweet, but not worth the frustration.

Anyone who thinks the Hammerhead weapons are bad doesn't know how to use them. They're so good that the Hammerhead doens't need good armor.

The main problem with the Hammerhead was that there was no indication how badly damaged you were or if you were at all until you were almost dead!

I liked the Mako. The only thing I found frustrating were the mountain ranges that were almost impossible to get over. If the Mako could have handled them as easily as the shallower slopes I wouldn't have had a problem at all.

I think he means they're so bad in that any idiot can use them. You point and shoot a seemingly infinite supply of homing missiles out of what looks to be a mass accelerator cannon. No aiming skill necessary, just shower the area with missiles.

Except when you play on Insanity. Then they just suck.
