Bioware Authorization Server offline?

Hello,
I've been logging onto some PWs for about 2 weeks now, and everytime I do, I get hung up at the Bioware server authorization screen.

It says the server isn't available, then I can click through and still join the Gamespy lists and my PW.

Is anyone else having a problem with the Bioware auth. server, and does anyone know what is going on?

Obviously, it is more annoying than anything...so is there a solution to bypass this authorization attempt, in the future or until it is fixed?

Thanks.

I hope it gets fixed, it's annoying to wait for a while everytime you log in.

*sigh*

I'd really like a sollution or a plugin that'll bypass it if nothing else..

Yes, that's my point as well.

If you play a Windows version or Steam, you can edit your Hosts file to block searching for the Bioware Authorization Server. I've been trying to do the same for Mac OS 10.6, but it won't work.

If anyone knows if NWN2 on the Mac uses a special Hosts file, I'd really like to know.

its unix just like linux, so hosts is where it's supposed to be at /etc/hosts ( windows mainly has it so it's posix compliant ).

Open terminal
Type in "sudo vi /etc/hosts"
Hit the letter "i" to go into insert mode
Edit as desired
Hit "Escape"
Hit "ZZ" to exit. ( That is shift so it's uppercase and Z twice )

( that is how i do it at least, you can use other apps or look up vi in google for more info, it's easier to use that since it's normally write protected which not everything can deal with )

Thanks pain, but it doesn't work. I've applied the changes to the Hosts file, and here is what I get when I ping the server:

$ ping nw2master.bioware.com
PING nw2master.bioware.com (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.034 ms
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.077 ms
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.034 ms

I've routed it to my local host, and the NWN2 client still hangs for a minute saying;

"Authorization Server down...
Could not connect to Master Server..."

have you rebooted / updated your cache, very likely it's using the cached dns value ( you need to look up how to do it based on your OS version as they changed the commands as they put up new server versions. )

Even then how it works on mac might be different, as by putting in your own localhost like you are doing is forcing the game to think the server is down as it won't be able to reach anything. You might be running IIS on the windows box which handles the traffic quickly and treats it as an error, and not running apache on mac os x ( it needs to be turned on ).

I dumped the cache every time! It's just weirdly frustrating. I'll try 0.0.0.0 and/or looking into the Apache part. Cheers.

Okay, so how do you fix that popup "Could not connect . . ." message if you're using Windows, then?

These are all gui files which can be edited. I am sort of waiting still to see if there will be movement with an official resolution before touching them.

It has been 4 months so I went ahead and written a pw-specific authentication system, you can find information in the following post:
