For everyone who will be attending the San Diego Comic Con make sure you save some time for the Legendary Studios panel on Friday July 22. Not only will Legendary Studis be talking about their upcoming movies including Pacific Rim (from director Guillermo Del Toro of Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth), Paradise Lost (starring Bradley Cooper) and Seventh Son (starring Jeff Bridges) they will have Casey Hudson and screenwriter Mark Protosevich there to talk about the Mass Effect movie.

How cool is that? Our own Casey Hudson sitting on a panel with Del Toro, Bridges, Cooper and other film luminaries.

We'll try to sent a camera crew from the booth over to the panel and get some footage, but the best way to see it is to make sure you take in the Legendary Studios panel at San Diego Comic Con. :)

Some news, finally? Maybe we'll finally find out if it's going to be Shepard-centric or not. Maybe.

It's basically granted it's gonna depict First Contact War.

That was never officially announced. Am I the only one who really thinks the First Contact War was too short and involved too little of the Mass Effect universe to become an entire movie?

Of course it was never announced officially, but it appeared at IMDB Pro so it's very reliable information.

As for the First Contact War, you have to remember the movie is only about 2 hours long. First Contact War is more than enough to fill it.

Hmm, finally some news after a year of silence. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the project enters development hell and stay there just like all the other video game movies.

Mark Protosevich... doesn't have much beyond I Am Legion when it comes to the good stuff. And that movie was re-written by Akiva Goldsman.

Woot! I'm kinda hoping it won't have Shep since everyone has their own version of how they play Shep and their own idea of their personal "canon" Shep.

Not really. It would 'canonize' one version of Shepard and the events whichis something fans wouldn't like and as for the rest, 95% of the moviegoers will be casual audience that doesn't have the slightest idea what Mass Effect is and doesn't care if it's abotu Shepard or First Contact War.

First Contact War...meh. Make it about another group of characters during or after the events of the Mass Effect trilogy.

For a sample of Mark Protosevich's (the screenwriter) work, here's the "I Am Legend" script he wrote before it got rewritten by Akiva Goldsman.

Normally this is where I would be compelled to make the arguement which extrapolates upon "No it isn't", but the cloying gray cloud of the forknowledge of the ultimate futility of my actions is rather overpowering at the moment.

I'm happy the motion picture company, Legendary, is making the Mass Effect movie. Though I don't think that this will be a huge ME movie unveiling, I think that they're just going to talk about it on-panel.

Legendary Pictures sometimes brings along Christopher Nolan (the production company of his movies Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Inception and the upcoming Dark Knight Rises). He's done with Batman after DKR, so if he somehow lands the director job of ME, I just... I just... well this is a censored forum so just use your imagination. :D

Racism?

Edit: Del Toro is a pretty prestigious director.  He did Pan's Labyrinth, if Hellboy isn't your thing.

This is super exciting!

I hope the movie is fantastic, as it deserves to be. We all know too much about the first contact war, Shepard, etc; I want a new story.

I kinda thought so too, either that or I'm missing something.

We can only hope.

If they show Shepard in any way, the movie is already ruined.

Hellboy 1 was great. But 2...... was pretty terrible. Did he direct that one as well? I forget.

I'm surprised there's going to be a panel this early, although it'll probably just discuss the story and not announce details such as director or actors.

I hear what you are saying, but fans are a fickle bunch anyway. I believe if it is Shepard and a well made film people will get behind it in droves. Get JJ Abrams for this! The New Star Trek was bad ass and I'd love to see that same energy brought to bare on Shepard's story.

I will be there. I'm not sold on a movie yet, but this will most definitely be interesting.
