"Protosevich said that past game movie makers were smitten with the visuals and action of the games and mistakenly believed they could simply recreate the game on film. The writer added that he believes Mass Effect has a mythology as rich and deep as those of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, but that they are focusing solely on the first game for the movie version."
subtle little announcement

I think that should put all this talk to rest. FINALLY! I was just about to post this after I read it. Anyone who knows anything about marketing, business, and/or profit gains, as well as anybody with common sense should have already known this would be the outcome.

What I got from this is the story was based off the game. What I see is the story will be based off Anderson and Saren's story. You know the first book of Mass Effect. I think that would better. However I still say the studio should make a story about "The first contact war." It would be awesome and it would setup the people who haven't played the games and other people to learn and understand about mass effect better. I make movies in the part time and I've studied them for years. Trust me I have a good idea of what I'm talking about.

I'm waiting for the video from the panel. GameSpot will have it soon so we'll be able to hear it ourselves. GameSpot said the same thing as IGN, but I trust GameSpot more.

How can Mass Effect expect to come out with so little done by now? No cast, no director, no script, no projected production dates, no nothing. Just toying with ideas for what the movie could be.
I honestly don't expect the movie before 2013 at the earliest, but I believe a 2014 or 2015 release date would be more realistic.

Are they really planning to release it in 2012? I would love to see it come out in that year, but it's already mid 2011 and they still haven't started preproduction (according to IMDB). It seems they haven't even finished or written the script... I mean, there are other movies (like Star Trek) that were slated for 2012, and those movies have been being worked on for so long and yet they still get pushed back (Star Trek apparently is now aiming 2013 for full preproduction start with estimated release date in 2015....)

Do we really know how long they've been working on it though? They could have been working on it for a while and are just keeping things to themselves. For all we know they could be a long way into production. BioWare likes to be very secretive about things anyways (which is a good thing)

I honestly don't think that is the case here. To be secretive is one thing, but to not really tell us anything about anything is unheard of if it was only a year away. I am thinking this time next year we will possibly see a trailer for SDCC 2012. Possiby.

I just really don't see it at such an advanced stage by this time next year. But that's just me and it's always possible that I am wrong.

I mean hell, if it were me I would be happy about the movie regardless as to if it was Shep Arc, FCW or anything else. Iam happy. As long as it is done well would be my concern. Instead we have people crying an complaining because they didn't get what they want as fans(Like 80% of the other topics on the BSN.). /Sigh!

I remain skeptical. Just as ME3 was pushed back, I'm sure that by the time 2012 comes around, pushing it back to 2013 won't really turn anyone off since it won't seem far off anymore. A trailer for next year's Comic Con? I don't think so. Maybe concept art, storyboard visuals, or at the very best, photos from filming, but I don't see anything more advanced.

Yeahm a trailer is just a hopeful possibility. Not a full trailer. More like a teaser trailer. Teasers usually don't take that long to make, as you don't really even need to have the movie complete to make one.
As far as it getting pushed back. It won't get pushed back because it doesn't have a date as of yet. The Mass Effect Anime Movie has a release for next year though. I think people are getting the live action movie confused with the game because Casey showed the trailer during the panel right before talk of the movie.

Call it fanboyism if you want but it speaks volumes on how successful BW has been at reaching their RPG goals with this title. And a movie about another Shepard kills that, and I'm not paying good money for something that's already perfect to me.
