guys... You killed universe with mass-effect3 ending .. who cares about move now...
The end of the movie could be better than the end of the game... It's not very difficult, that being said.
On the other hand, Amber Heard could be the perfect actress to play Liara Tsoni. Their profil are very closed I think.

Is male (straight and supported by Yet Another Perfect Woman, something like Ash v.ME3...or, probably, Liara - if they wish to add some exotics), white, 100% paragon protogonist any better? Oh, yes, there are so many of them all over sci-fi that it's even hard to tell one from another, so no definition or comparing will follow in this case, I suppose. When someone says "A strong female character out to rid the galaxy of an evil race of aliens that want to destroy everyone" people go "Ripley". So yes, gender and context will define her as a Ripley Clone.
And as for film itself - I really feel it a bad idea to make any kind of "canon" Shep. That's what made this game - everyone could make his own "canon", basing on in-game mechanics, choices etc. Some write Shep-fics, and I don't think this film is any different, it's just another Shep-fic.
That's not MY (Fem)Shep,so - it never happened, sorry.

They already have a 'sort-of canon' Shepard - it's that bloke you can see just to the right of all the posts. He's in 95% of the promotional stuff, the default setting in-game, etc, etc.
So I reckon he's who we'll be seeing as the protagonist. (And IIRC Liara is his LI, so it might be her if there is one.)
Of course there is no absolute canon Shepard - they've said something along the lines of 'that doesn't exist and never will', but Commander John Shepard, Alliance Soldier seems to be their go-to Shepard. It's not going to dampen my enjoyment of the movie (if it's any good, that is) because he's not 'my' Shepard.
That being said almost all of my characters are called John Shepard with the default face and are also Soldiers, so, yeah. Trying to figure out which career is which is frustrating in my game...

And I don't completely agree with that whole 'Ripley clone' thing. I honestly never EVER thought to compare her to Ripley, though I do see the similarities. There are so many other tough girl archetypes out there so to limit her to 'ripley clone' seems a little unfair. There are so many sci fi/comic book franchises like X-Men or Star Trek & etc where people (including women!) save the world from hostile aliens/forces. Its also relatively common for characters in comic book franchises to die and come back lol. And besides, I don't see anyone referring to male shepard as a 'Ripley clone'. I'm pretty sure his ass died and came back from the dead to fight aliens too, irregardless of the size of his ******!
I'm not really excited about a film. I mean, I never was anyway, just like I wouldn't be jazzed about an Elder Scrolls movie because so much of the experience is based on the players' decisions.
I played as both male and female Shepards, but I ultimately came to prefer Jennifer Hale's voice for renegade runs and so I ended up playing mostly as femshepards. Especially in ME3 since two runs was about as much as I could stand lol.
The ending officially killed any interest I may have had in a ME movie. Maybe, just maybe if Liara is the LI... And it does give me some iota of hope that Del Toro is directing it... So hopefully Hollywood will drastically alter the story (as usual) so we don't end up with the canon ending which is terrible- God, I never thought I'd say that about ANYTHING.

If it's announced that this movie features Shepard, I will punch somebody. There is no canon Shepard. This movie would absolutely destroy that concept.
Also, the ending of ME3 and the way they've handled the reaction have pretty much killed all interest I would have had in the first place.

LOL. People are so sexist. Men stronger than women? Maybe in the real world if we're talking physical strength only, but the laws of the physical world are obviously irrelevent in a Mass Effect universe. What about biotics and tech powers and of course- guns? Shepard doesn't run through the game boxing everything to death with bare hands. It gets shot, incinerated, frozen, warped and etc. Not to mention cybernetic upgrades... You don't need a dick to do all that. Ask Jack.![]()

Im not sexist, and have said a milion times that when it comes to certain aspects of life women just blow us guys away with awesomness and capabilities, however there is a reason women don't serve as frontline troops in combat, real reasons... all related to physical str. furthermore shepard is Special Forces N7.... the best of the best toughest jobs u can imagine.... im not being sexist but a woman simply cant run for days w/o food or sleep with big weight on her back, and still be able to physically perform up to standard... nothing to do with sexisam just pure biology....

This. I agree 100% with you.
I am a late comer to this but i just now found out that they are basing off the ME movie out of the games. This is so sad...the ME universe is so big, why couldn't they have focused on some other character other than Shepard. Very dissapointed

the real commander. On a side note, quite a few of the voice actors in my opinion could fit in
perfectly playing themselves.
I play with a femshep alot. Female leads are hit and miss,
and male leads without the right kind of casting are the same caswe

Yes. Women belong as secretaries and very light support you are so right, quick! Let us alight to the Special Forces, the Marines, the Navy and inform them women who do in fact serve that they can not do this for a poster on the internet proclaims that it is biologically impossible! Also, we nay canst tary for we must inform all athletic women and women body builders that they can not do the things they do!/sarcasm.
Sexist.
