Probably. But Steam exists entirely because Valve wanted to do the same. Obviously Steam is a great user experience now, but I still remember the days it was packaged with the Counter-Strike update and made mandatory. That was a ****storm.

but anyone who honestly thinks piracy is hurting the PC gaming industry just needs to look at steam and see how strongly its going for them.

.... Yes, services that sell things usually do well.

I have no idea what point you think you are making.

Well some people seem to think that PC gaming is dead (Turnip Root) and that pirating is so rampant that anyone with a PC is pirating and you just wont admit it.
If this is true then a service that sells PC games like Steam simply wouldn't exist.

Gears of War 3 recently had a nearly finished version of its single-player campaign pirated. There are quite a few people playing it right now as we speak.

Piracy is not a PC only issue.

It's EA's products, they can sell it how they want and to whom they want. Kind of like how I decide who does or doesn't enter my house.

That's how life works so quit whining.  You're not entitled to EA's stuff.

Steam deserves a little competition anyways.  It will make them better.

PC gamers should be happy by this news.  This gives them another line they can add to their long list of excuses for pir...errr I mean fighting the digital revolution of the 21st century!

They can sell how they want and to whom and as consumers we can decide not to buy and/or to inform others so they can choose not to buy. We live in a wonderful society of choice. I'm choosing to respond to this pointless argument for example.

Steam sucks. Maybe this has something to do with non auto patch.

Auto patch can be turned off.

Didn't work for TW2. Coming from someone who was actually patient enough to download 2 x 9GB ****ed up patches in order to get her DirectX partially removed BY Steam. There's never going to be a 3rd party between me and my games again.

Steam sucks. No, I didn't read thread.

I like Steam. I still can download My Half-Life 2 pack I got in 2004. And thats 7 years ago.

EA is a horrible company, and it will be a rare time if I purchase another game by them. Oh, Origin can go to hell.

I was on about Turnip Roots insane belief that PC gaming is dying because Piracy is that bad.
You asked me what my point was so I tried to tell you.
you got mad at me for telling you.

I went back and read it thats what it looks like to me.

Oh and btw, if you really are someone working for EA's PR does the word professional confidentiality mean anything to you? Unless you come here with permissions and the EA tag, I highly doubt you'd be allowed to flaunt about that in a public forum. Stop underestimating the people here and learn to troll better.

Wait, is this the fabled Turnip Root post that everyone is so upset about?

Look. DRM is not some conspiracy dreamed up by executives dedicated to Destroying Fun Everywhere. It is essential in a world where video games/music/movies/tv gets pirated every single hour of every single day. It protects creators. It's a good idea. That is not to say that it has not been executed horribly by some companies, most notably UbiSoft. But to say that DRM, as a concept, is bad is quite silly. As I've said before, even free stuff gets pirated.

There is also a common misconception that DRM is somehow forced upon gamemakers. This is not the case. A few years back, a friend of mine was cornered by a fan that wanted the skinny on what he thought of evil DRM, expecting to **** about the company. Instead, my friend told him that he was all for DRM, and listed his reasons why. The fan was speechless.

Some people pirate because they don't have enough money (and some believe that pirating doesn't matter if they delete the file after). Some pirate because they are anti-business. Some pirate because they think it helps the industry (which is the biggest piece of sh** I've ever heard). But they are all pirating software, and it is all illegal.

I believe he is talking about these guys Zomboid  [scroll down for the blog on why it was taken down for the day]
While I don't agree with everything Bryy_Miller says, with that particular game it's true.

As far as i can see this is not going to be a free game after release.
And as for demo version - from what i can read there - putting virus inside of the game (as in this case here) have nothing to do with Piracy.

That and the free Coldplay CD, and the Humble Indie Bundle. And Worm, I'm sorry but the world doesn't work like "just because I don't believe in it makes it not true".

But hey. Who am I to stop this thread from thinking that DRM is an evil conspiracy, and everyone with a dissenting opinion is either an idiot or making things up?

Simply put, we live in the real world.

How do you think the virus got there? It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that they said pirating was fine with them?

Worm, I apologize for mixing you up with xkg in my last post.
