Am I the only one that thinks this movie could be an instant classic if given the proper production?

Joey Ansah has the look and the moves to make the part credible from a physical standpoint. I am unsure about his charisma but the guy knows his videogames. He also has a slight British accent.

Anderson was quite the badass in his prime Ansah put the bad in badass!

I feel like my opinion may be unpopular, but here it is:

Making a Mass Effect movie without Commander Shepard would be like making a James Bond movie without James Bond. (Or a Halo movie without Master Chief, as they have talked about doing). Shepard IS Mass Effect; he is iconic.

I know the main argument is that you can't make a movie with Shepard because everyone's Shepard is different and you would ultimately make some people angry if a certain interpretation were used rather than another. I disagree. "Shepards" are ultimately not that different. They are all badass, be they paragon or renegade, they are all heroes, and they all serve the same function: savior of the galaxy.

I'm not going to get angry if they cast a Shepard who looks nothing like "my" Shepard, or shares a few subtle differences in personality. Hell, they can even cast a different gender Shepard, as long as it is Shepard, and the movie is telling the story that made people interested in Mass Effect in the first place (the Reapers and Shepard's fight) then it is the right move. Execution is a different matter, but they should tell the story that is the most interesting; First Contact War is backstory in the games for a reason.

I don't agree with you... What makes ME so popular is we guide Shepard and his POV reflects our choices we choose for him... He's essentially us in Video game form... We each have that special bond with Shepard...and we all exclusively believe each of our Shepard's is better than anyone elses... In movie form it breaks that special bond... Unless they make the movie like the games? Imagine in a Bluray special disk package they had the options for us to choose between dialogue options with our remote control? That would be neat! But I digress... Shepard shouldn't exist... In fact I believe the films should be about the 1st contact wars... leading to the origins of the Mass Relays... Casting a Shepard will cause insanity on the web... i.e. he looks weird...he's not tough...he's not bad ass...etc etc. Changing his name would give the movie developers the chance to experiment with the lead character a bit more... Instead of copying Shepard in the games...

Except Bond movies are all about one thing - Bond. ME is an entire universe. Luke was the main star of Star Wars but that didn't stop the franchise from growing because of how much stuff there was to tell in the universe.

Well I did say my opinion would be unpopular haha.  I completely hear what you are saying, and I agree with all of it in terms of video game immersiveness.  But try to imagine a movie about the First Contact War.  I mean, that might be one of the most bland, generic narratives to grace cinemas lately (and there are a lot already!).

Your assertion, "What makes ME popular is that WE guide Shepard" is completely correct, but I think you left out an important bit:  What makes ME popular is that we guide Shepard in the context of a GREAT story with characters that we care about.  For a movie, I'm fine with some liberties being taken at OUR Shepard's expense to keep everything else that works from the game medium and transfer it to the film medium.

Also, it's important to remember that many people who would go to see the film will have never played the games; it will be their first, and probably only (barring sequels) experience with the ME universe, and if that's the case I want the filmmakers firing on all cylinders, not falling back onto a very unappealing backstory from the game because it is safer.

Would love a mass effect movie revolving first contact or back to when the protheans were wiped out.

Expanding the universe is great, but people should experience Star Wars with Luke BEFORE they experience it without him.  The Mass Effect universe was designed for the Reaper story, so people should experience that narrative before expanded universe narratives.

Everyone can play ME games. And considering they practially look like movies anyway, why exactly do we need a (highly cut) movie version of the same thing? Many scenes would look virtually identical, or just from different camera angles.

As a fan of the games, I'm with you.  If I had my choice I would want to see a completely different story in the Mass Effect universe, but you can't underestimate how many people go see blockbuster movies while at the same time overestimating how many people play action RPGs.  People familiar with ME through the games will be the minority in that theater.  The whole point of making a movie based on a game is (or should be) to share the experience of a game's narrative and content elements that can be translated to film with the general public.  As gamers, we are lucky enough to have already experienced Mass Effect, but most people haven't and would be much more interested in the Shepard/Reaper storyline.

I really wouldn't mind if it was a Shepard story. Doesn't negate my gaming experience. It's an entirely different beast.

Exactly, the majority of moviegoers don't even know ME, so they won't care if it's about Shepard/Reapers or about the First Contact War. Since they don't know Shepard/Reapers, they can't know they would be more interested in it. That's one. Second, every franchise's biggest barrier from becoming an established long-running classic is being able to get away from the initial storyline and characters. ME already has one proven storyline/period/pratagonist. Having a succesful movie set during the First Contact War would establish another one. The franchise would achieve something many other franchises never managed to. Heck, Star Wars struggled for years to get away from the movies' period and movie characters. Wasn't really until KOTORs that built on succesful Tales of the Jedi comics that the Star Wars franchise finally got new characters and storyline period drawing people havily in.

Contact is a great movie. Light on action heavy on science. FCW could be similar but with alien action. All the cool stuff that will happen in the future of our species we won't be alive for. FCW would give us a glimpse at that future. If visually credible people will come to see it. Think of Minority Report. There are three potential movies that you could get for the price of one.

1. A good video game movie.
2. A movie like Carl Sagan's Contact
3. Joey Ansah kicking alien ass as a young Anderson.

Agree, I expect the movie to be similar in structure to Contact if it's about Prothean/Charon discovery and then setting out to space/meeting aliens etc.

The casting of Anderson will make or break the movie. I think I picked out a good actor.  Who I would like to represents some of the best that humanity has to offer physically. I am a huge fan of the guy he has a black belt in real ninja arts and looks the part . I hope they haven't started  casting yet. I think the guy is perfect. Just my take. Most importantly the guys is a real gamer. I think we should also hire a director who plays the games.
