Any ideas on what/how battles should be implemented into the game. If you don't like the idea, give some thoughts and reasons as to why.
Mine: Either battle with the Normandy with either all the upgrades from ME2 or make able to be customized with weapons and defense from parts and armor sold or found from somewhere like shops or something.

I recommend Ikaruga for all to play, though.

Nothing more than cutscenes that unfold differently depending on the commands you give.
I second this. I love space combat games, but I think adding it into a game like this would be too hard. Make it a small minigame and it feels cheap, make it too big and it distracts from the main gameplay. Then again, Halo Reach managed to pull off an awesome space combat mission that fit within the rest of the game, so who knows, maybe Bioware can too?

I'm so glad someone finally brought up their appreciation for Halo Reach. I also enjoyed that space combat, though I also kind of felt disappointed there wasn't more to it, at least for online multiplayer, but still an excellent addition to the series. The whole space combat idea for me came from Bungie's addition to their swan song, but BW's strength always lied upon their story and their shooter RPG combat in Mass Effect, so I wouldn't be disappointed if they chose not to add it. Just thought I'd bring it up for people to think of what they might enjoy for the final game.

Well we might have gotten a tiny glimpse of what it might be like (LoTSB). So we have the basic vehicle controls down, I guess just had some firepower to it and... BAM! Space Combat...
I believe that would qualify as the cheap approach. I'll take a pass on space combat. It should remain in the realm of cutscenes, at least in this trilogy.
Developers might create these special segments thinking they'll be cool, fresh, or enjoyable. But if you look at the vehicles (tank, reaver, brumak) in Gears 2, they were spectacular failures. I doubt Mass Effect could do better, as Bioware's priorities have always been elsewhere.

Some kind of strategic chest game where you need to choose where you send each fleet to fight the reapers. It all unravel in cutscene.
***Attack fleets come in, firing everything.
Weapons cannot penetrate Reaper defenses. The Reapers' minds calculate the weakest part of each ship by scanning and obtaining schematics of each ship. This takes 0.0003 seconds. Since all the technology being used against them is but modifications of their own technology, technology they allowed us to have, they calibrate their weapons and shielding to allow for even more efficiency.
The Reapers first send out Indoctrinated slaves guiding ships as pawns, then themselves descend on the fleets. All weapons shot at them have zero effect....all weapons fired by them bypasses the organic's shielding at a rate of 99.97%.
All massive ships are being destroyed with one or two rapid shots.
The organics pull out their special powerful weapon, hitting a Reaper and causing moderate damage. That Reaper goes instantaneously into FTL and vanishes. The next Reaper who is to be shot at recognizes it is a target through scanning and also goes into instant FTL, escaping the shot.
While this is happening, ignoring the gnat like smaller ships firing meaningless shots at them, ten nearby Reapers, including Harbinger, fire their main weapons at the ship with the powerful weapon that can damage them, completely destroying it to a point it de-molecularizes and its atom subparticles are scattered over an entire parsec.
Organic ships flee, taking heavy casualties as they all re-enter a Mass Relay.
Shepard decides to head to darkspace...

And I am assuming "space combat" is supposed to mean space combat gameplay, not merely some cutscenes. I think it's pretty obvious there will be plenty of cutscenes featuring space combat.
