Why *not* kill all the mages?

Just not efficient when you can get those same people to make money for you.

So what happens when the Tevinter Imperium finds out about this mage wide genocide. They surely wouldn't stand back and wait for the Templars to come and kill them all. It would be war.
Why? The tevinters have their own templars, their own circles, and most likely their own annulments. The only difference is that their templars and their circles answer to their divine, not the one in Orlais.

Agreed.
Its an ignorant assumption to assume that all mages want to use blood magic and.or will become abominations.
Can't wait until DA:3 comes out and the hypocrisy of the Chantry will be revealed.

I actually agree with this statement. I was just seeing how far the pro-Templar argument could be taken.

Well, I'd assume the templars would want them dead as well (including their divine) if they aim to eradicate all mages. So war at some time at the very least.
And then they'd have to invade the Qunari and reform their society as well.
And then they'd have to keep up the killing for generations, which would be a bother.

Because Templars aren't there to butcher mages. Theoretically at least, they're there as much to protect mages from people as they are the reverse, something folk like Meredith seem to have forgotten.
But why protect the mages? They're just vessels waiting for demons to assume direct control of, after all. Why protect the vermin that will only respond to kindness with violence and murder. Why not cut away the problem proactively, take the situation head-on?

Not all mages are weak! And its wrong to assume that as well as ignorant.
Do you label all Muslims as terrorists too? <_<

If both you and your enemies have tanks, why would you dismantle your own tanks just because of potential safety hazards?

Because they're none of these things. Don't confuse the ravings of a few with the general opinion amongst Templars. The loudest are always the first to be heard.

Simple.
Without mages, the Chantry no longer has reason to hold an army and control Lyrium, which would result in a substantial loss of political power, as their primary purpose is now void. It is thus in the Chantry's interests to keep the status quo.
As for the prospect of genocide on mages. It's too costly and is a phenomenal waste of resources. And while mages we see in DA2 were potrayed as mostly lunatics, non-mages in that game were also portrayed as mostly idiots. In otherwords, I would not take what mages did there as an indicator of what the majority are.
Mages are a potent military resource, as well as a potential economic asset. To eradicate them is a huge waste.

The Qunari hate the mages, the Chantry hates the mages, the Templars hate the mages, the nobles fear the mages, and the people fear the mages.
I'll just fix this sentence for you:
The Qunari fear the mages, the Chantry fears the mages, the Templars fear the mages, the nobles fear the mages, and the people fear the mages.
Honestly, if fear was a proper reason to kill people, well let's just say there wouldn't be too many people left on this planet by now...

Why not kill all the mages? If there were no mages, who would we make into tranquil slaves? The chant of light teaches us that magic is here to serve man, and I demand service!
Why bother with the Tranquil. Elves work just fine. Plus, they scream for real when you beat them, much better than the Tranquil.
