hi i need help making jowan recruitable and romancable. i'm thinking of recruiting him at the tower or were he is imprisoned. im thinking of adding him as a blood mage and later on when i get better making a whole slew of quest's for him and adding aenor and some other places like orlei and antiva, and also adding Soris however i may just make it exclusive for the mage and alienage elf respectively. im thinking this because im making a fic and the idea came to me. i wanna make an add-on with antiva and orlei and learning how to rid the taint or to make it less lethal and a blood mage like Jowan is perfect. the romance part for me is prbably going to be both male and female because im versatile like that and i love drama in a game. of course just recruiting them is all i need right so if anyone can help i will be ever grateful.

There is some basic information here.
I'm working on simplification of the first tutorial. For now, I'd advise reading the whole thing. Consider the alternatives mentioned towards the end. Avoid advanced scripting you don't need.
The second tutorial mentions an existing Jowan mod, which may be of interest.

In my Origins Companions mod, I made Jowan recruitable after the arl is healed. Doing it before that gets a bit tricky because you'd have to mess with several vanilla dialogues, cutscenes, and scripts. Also if you recruit him from the tower, that means he doesn't end up poisoning the arl, which has serious implications on the story (unless you meant if you send him back to the tower AFTER healing the arl, in which case that should be pretty easy to do without changing any vanilla resources, though might be a little odd story-wise since the tower may or may not be fixed).
(I believe I read somewhere that when Jowan was intended to be a full companion, the devs had planned on making the warden conscript him when talking to the arl, so that's what I did in my mod.)

???
I didn't mean for you to download my mod; I was only offering you suggestions on how to proceed with your own mod.

I looked at the "Follower Tutorial" wiki article on adding companions that Proleric linked above. It's a good starting point. The scripts the vanilla game uses are probably the best to look at. That's what I based most of my scripts on. The Help screen in the toolset gives descriptions of what each script function does, so I used that to help me understand what the vanilla script does. Then I duplicated the vanilla scripts and edited them to suit my needs. Basically I learned scripting by reverse engineering existing scripts over the course of a few months.
